Abstract

AbstractThe purposes of this research are; (1) The use of English comic effective to improve the vocabulary and (2) How effective the use of English comic to improve vocabulary. The Researcher conducted a Pre – Experimetal study using written test as tool of collecting data. The sample of this study 35 students on the seventh grades of SMP Negeri 6 Pontianak. The finding showed that the mean score of pre – test was 54.71; which is categorized as “poor to avarage“. Meanwhile, the mean score of post – test was 79.28; which is categorized as “average to good”. Based on tha data analysis, it was found that effect size of this research was 1.80 and it was categorized “High Effect“. It can be concluded thatthe teaching vocabulary by using English comic was effective to improve vocabulary mastery. Keywords:Teaching vocabulary, English comic, Pre – Experimental

Abstract

Abstract: This research was concerned to know the effectiveness of retelling story in improving students’ ability in speaking to the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 4 Pontianak. The researcher found students have limitations in speaking English because students are not accustomed to speaking in English. One of the reason is the teachers do not provide enough opportunities for students to practice speaking. Retelling story is conveying events in words, images and sounds, often by improvisation. This technique can help teacher provide opportunities for students to practice. The method of this research was pre-experimental research. The researcher measured the improvement of students’ speaking ability by collecting the data through performance test. The result of the mean score of the students’ pre-test was 63.28. While the students’ mean score of post-test after the treatment was 73.20. In addition, based on the computation of t-test was higher than t-table (3.92>2.063). It showed that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. In other words, retelling story in improving students’ ability in speaking is effective. Keywords: Speaking Ability, retelling story, pre-experimental Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas teknik menceritakan ulang dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara untuk siswa kelas delapan SMP PGRI 4 Pontianak. Peneliti menemukan siswa memiliki keterbatasan dalam berbahasa Inggris karena siswa tidak terbiasa berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Salah satu alasannya adalah guru tidak memberikan kesempatan yang cukup bagi siswa untuk berlatih berbicara. Menceritakan ulang adalah menyampaikan peristiwa dengan kata-kata, gambar dan suara yang seringkali dilakukan dengan improvisasi. Teknik ini dapat membantu guru memberikan kesempatan bagi siswa untuk berlatih. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian pre-eksperimental. Peneliti mengukur peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa dengan mengumpulkan data melalui tes performa. Hasil skor rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 63,28. Sementara nilai rata-rata siswa dari post-test setelah treatment adalah 73,20. Selain itu, berdasarkan perhitungan t-tes lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (3,92> 2,063). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif diterima dan hipotesis nol ditolak. Dengan kata lain, cerita menceritakan kembali dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara efektif. Abstract

Abstract : Role play in Video Modelled Conversation are proposed in the teaching of speaking not only because of their appealing forms but also due to their salient features, as multimedia to improve the students? motivation in speaking. This study investigated students? motivation by using Dornyei?s framework of language learning motivation. A questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were also employed as a means of collecting the data through a classroom action research. The procedures included planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The results showed that teaching speaking using Role Play in Video Modelled Conversations could successfully improve students motivation in speaking. They find this technology can enhance their English learning motivation and effectively boost their English speaking ability.   Keywords : motivation, Role Play, Video Modelled Conversation, framework.     Abstrak : Role Play didalam Video Modelled Conversation dirancang dalam pengajaran speaking bukan saja karena bentuknya yang menarik tetapi juga karena fitur-fiturnya yang menggugah sebagai multimedia untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam berbicara. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki motivasi siswa dengan menggunakan kerangka motivasi belajar bahasa yang dikembangkan oleh Dornyei. Angket dan wawancara cara semi terstruktur juga digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk pengumpulan data melalui penelitian tindakan kelas. Prosedur penelitian meliputi : perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran speaking menggunakan Role Play dalam Video Modelled Conversation telah berhasil meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam berbicara. Mereka menemukan bahwa teknologi ini dapat memacu motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris dan secara efektif meningkatkan keterampilan bahasa Inggris mereka.   Kata Kunci : motivasi, bermain peran, percakapan penutur asli di video, kerangka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk menyelidiki seberapa signifikan peningkatan nilai siswa dalam menulis paragraf deskriptif melalui model pengajaran quantum. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuasi-experimen yang menggunakan dua kelas , satu kelas eksperimen dan satu kelas kontrol. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII A yang berjumlah 31 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII B yang berjumlah 32 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test dalam bentuk tes tertulis. Data tersebut dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus tingkat efektifitas (effect size). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan nilai kelas eksperimen yang diajar dengan model quantum lebih signifikan dibanding nilai kelas kontrol. Selisih nilai pre-test dan post-test kelas eksperimen adalah 44.24 (dari 27.59 menjadi 71.38) sedangkan kelas kontrol 37.20 (dari 25.32 menjadi 62.52). Kata kunci: Menulis, Paragraf Deskriptif, Model Pengajaran Quantum Abstract: This research was held to investigate the significant of students achievement in descriptive paragraph writing through quantum teaching model. This research applied quasi-experimental which used two classes, one experimental class and one control class. The subject of this research was VIII A consists of 31 students as experimental class and VIII B consists of 32 students as control group. The data were collected by pre-test and post-test in form of written test. The data was analyzed by using formula of effect size. The results indicated that the improvement of experimental class achievement after being taught by quantum teaching was more significant than the control class.The interval pre-test and post-test score of experimental class was 44.24 (from 27.59 became 71.38) whereas the control class was 37.20 (from 25.32 became 62.52).
