Abstract

Mount Kelud that is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, erupted on February 13, 2014. The eruption damaged agricultural crops in Trisulo Village Kediri. This study was conducted in greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Brawijaya University. Soil samples were taken from Trisulo Village, Posoklaten District, Kediri Regency. This study used a completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of A1 (100% Urea), A2 (100% composted chicken manure), A3 (100% composted cow manure), A4 (50% urea + 50% composted chicken manure), and A5 (50% urea + 50% composted cow manure). Soil variables observed were soil pH, total N, C-organic, C/N ratio, and CEC. Plant parameters observed were plant height and number of leaves of maize. The results showed that application of chicken and cow manure composts with dosage of 100% (12,27 t ha-1 and 18,73 t ha-1) each significantly increased pH and CEC of soil affected by Mount Kelud Eruption compared to the use of 100% Urea , and could substitute the use of 50% Urea. As for the N-total of soil, only 100% (12,27 t ha-1) each application of chicken manure compost could substitute 50% urea. Application of chicken and cow manure composts with dosage of 100% (12,27 t ha-1 and 18,73 t ha-1) each significantly increased the number of leaves of maize plants, and could substitute the use of 100% (288 kg ha-1) urea, although the highest leaf number was obtained in combination dosage of 50% urea and 50% chicken manure compost.

Abstract

Mount Kelud is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. Ash volcanic that released by Mount Kelud has some nutrients needed for plant, but requires a weathering process so as to provide nutrients in the soil. The soil that affected by Mount Kelud was given the addition of compost and urea fertilizer has residual effect for the next plant growth. This research was conducted in greenhouse of Agriculture Faculty, Brawijaya University from January until June 2017. This research used a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment consisted of A1: 2/3 soil residue (100% urea) + 1/3 goat manure compost; A2: 2/3 soil residue (100% chicken manure compost) + 1/3 goat manure compost; A3: 2/3 soil residue (100% cow manure compost) + 1/3 goat manure compost; A4: 2/3 soil residue (50% urea + 50% chicken manure compost) + 1/3 goat manure compost; A5: 2/3 soil residue (50% urea + 50% cow manure compost) + 1/3 goat manure compost. Variables of the observation were availability and uptake of NPK, plant height, number of leaves, number of pods, yield, and dry weight plant of okra. The results showed that compost residue and urea in the application of goat manure compost with ratio 2:1 had no effect in NPK availability on soil affected by Mount Kelud eruption. In plant’s parameter, there were effects on number of leaves at observation 12 weeks and P uptake, but no effect on N and K uptake, and okra’s yield.

Abstract

The problem of Entisol used for agricultural land is the loss of nutrients due to leaching and evaporation. It is thus necessary to keep the nutrients available in the soil. The purpose from this research was (1) to know the effectiveness of Crotalaria juncea compost application on the availability of N, P, and K on Entisol Wajak, and (2) to assess the effectiveness of Crotalaria juncea compost application on uptake of N, P, K and growth of sweet corn in an Entisol of Wajak, Malang. This research used a completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications, i.e. C0 (Urea 100%), C1 (Crotalaria juncea compost 100% + Urea 75%), C2 (Crotalaria juncea compost 100% + Urea 75%), C3 (Crotalaria juncea compost 100%), C4 (Crotalaria juncea compost 200%). The results showed that application of Crotalaria juncea compost 100% (10 t ha-1) did not significantly affect available-P but it significantly increased available-N at 4 and 8 weeks with the effectiveness of 39% and 79.66%, and significantly increased the available-K at 8 and 12 weeks with effectiveness of 38.75% and 33.33% compared to 100% urea application (288 kg ha-1). Applications of 100% Crotalaria juncea compost (10 t ha-1) did not significantly affect plant growth (dry weight and plant height) as well as the N and K uptake, but increased the effectiveness of the P uptake 2.07% compared to 100% urea application (288 kg ha-1).
