Abstract

Julang Sulawesi birds (Rhyticeros cassidix) and ebony tree (Diospyros celebica Bakh) are protected sulawesi endemic species and the both species be found in the Pangi Binangga Nature Reserve. Julang sulawesi bird is a fruit-eating birds species including ebony fruit. The purpose of this research is to determine the association of julang sulawesi birds (Rhyticeros cassidix) with ebony tree (Diospyros celebica Bakh) in the area of Pangi Binangga Nature Reserve, Moutong Parigi District. This research was conducted in three months starting from May to July 2013. This research uses the transect method that is make make 20x20 meter plots for 20 plots and placed parallel along side the 500-meter transect. The research was conducted at the time where ebony trees are not in fruiting season, there is interaction in which the julang sulawesi birds utilize ebony tree as a resting place on the analysis using of chi-square X2 however it was found that julang sulawesi birds (Rhyticeros cassidix) and ebony tree (Diospyros celebica Bakh) are not associated. Keywords : Association, julang sulawesi bird (Rhyticeros cassidix), trees ebony (Diospyros celebica Bakh)

Abstract

Tarsius (Tarsius pumilus) is the smallest mammals in the world and some of the species are classified to the endemic species of Sulawesi island, Indonesia. Tarsius is a member of tarssidae family. The aims of this study were to determine bio-physics characteristics of tarsius habitats at the mount Rorekatimbu. Research was performed as field research at Mount Rorekatimbu, Lore Lindu National Park, Central Sulawesi. This research was conducted from February through April 2014.Ninet sample plots were made by the size of 20x20 m. Ploting was done by purposive sampling method around tarsius habitats.Hence vegetation date were analysed to determine the density, frequency, dominant, and Importance Value Index. The results showed that the highest importance value index (IVI) at the tree and pole level was Castanopsis acuminatissima (Blume) A.DC with the value 109,88% and 71,74%, respectively. At the sapling level, the highest IVI was achieved by Pinanga cease Blume with the value 80,90%, and at the seedling level, the highest IVI was achieved by Calamus sp with the value 36,77%. Furthermore, the abiotic condition of the habitat including; temperature (14ºC-20ºC) and relative humidity (64%-83%) and located at 2031mtill 2084 m asl. Abstract

This study was conducted at three locations in the Palu Valley conservation area, namely in Paneki, Wera and Ngatabaru.  Research on the types of birds at each study site by using a modification of the method IPA (Indices Ponctuel d'Abondance).  All sites have found as many as 59 species of birds with a total population of 849 were included in 33 families. Grey-rumped treeswift bird is a bird species dominant at all the study sites.  Overall the types of birds from one location to study the similarity rate is low (<50%). Location of the greatest degree of similarity are Wera and Ngatabaru by 49%, then Wera and Paneki of 47% and location Paneki and Ngatabaru by 43%.Keywords: Similarity communities, birds, Palu valley
