Abstract

The ideal society according to Jürgen Habermas is no longer classless society as idealized by Karl Marx, but a society in which each member could freely talk about their ideas regarding public life, without the fear of being repressed by certain parties. For Habermas, the class struggle is not merely about opposition, but begun by identification instead. This is the root of all Habermas’ ideas of public sphere. This paper will discuss the concept of public sphere in Indonesia, from the New Order era, to Reformation, and finally the digital age.
