Abstract

Listening is an activity in which we can not only understand oral speech, but we can also respond to that utterance. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of ELT Web can improve the competence of junior high school teachers in listening skill and further with this paper can provide variation to teach listening by using technology. The method used from this research is quantitative method. The sample in this research is junior high school teachers. The researcher gave the question of pre-test in multiple choice, and listening post-test after practice using ELT Website. The results of this study indicate an increase in listening skills as indicated by the increase in post-test values.

Abstract

This research was conducted based on the phenomenon happened in the school. The students had low ability in grammar. They got difficulty in constructing sentences by using some tenses. Therefore, this thesis discussed the error analysis on using simple past tense in writing recount text. The purpose of this research was to classify the types of errors made by the students and find out the sources of errors which students made on using past tense in writing recount text. This research was conducted based on descriptive qualitative analysis. The subjects of the research were the students at the first semester of SMA Mardi Yuana Depok Class X Social III which consisted of 20 students, it was considered by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, this research used writing task to identify the students‟ errors on using action verb in writing recount text based on linguistic category taxonomy and sources of errors according to Brown’s theory. The result of the research showed that there were 4 types of errors made by the students. The highest two common errors were Misinformation errors 30 or 37,5% and Omission errors 24 or 30 %. The lowest two errors were Addition errors that were 14 items or 17,5% and Mis-ordering with 12 items or 15%. Based on the total result types of errors, this research found that Interlingual Transfer was the major source of errors made by the students.

Abstract

Media pembelajaran big book dapat dijadikan pilihan dalam menumbuhkan minat baca anak usia dini. Dalam big book, anak tidak hanya bisa melihat gambar yang penuh warna tetapi juga bisa membaca tanpa ada perasaan bosan dengan materi bacaan yang dibaca. Membaca tidak melulu membaca huruf tapi dapat diawali dengan membaca gambar dan dilanjutkan dengan membaca huruf dan kalimat. melalui kebiasaan yang dilakukan secara rutin oleh orang tua, diharapkan membaca bukan lagi hal yang menakutkan namun menjadi hal yang menyenangkan. Big book bisa dibuat bersama dengan anak dengan bermodalkan alat dan bahan yang sederhana. Lewat media big book, orang tua bisa mengkombinasikannya dengan kegiatan menggambar dan mewarnai. Lalu dilanjutkan dengan mengenalkan huruf lewat kalimat sederhana yang singkat dan mudah. Untuk itu pada kesempatan kali ini tim tertarik untuk melakukan kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat pada Orang tua Siswa SDN Pagelaran 04. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sosialisasi tentang media pembelajaran big book dan memberikan edukasi kepada para orang tua bagaimana mengasah keterampilan membaca permulaan dan meningkatkan kosakata siswa.

Abstract

Relative Clause is a clause which uses relative pronoun to explain or describe more about the noun. The purpose of this research is to find out what type of errors that students make in forming adjective clause and what kind of relative pronouns which the students often make error. This research will be conducted qualitative method descriptively. The population for this research is the third semester students at English Education department academic year 2017/2018 at Indraprasta PGRI University. There are two classes which consist of 30 students for each, therefore the population of this research is 60 students. The technique of sample taking is random sampling. Therefore the researcher takes 20 students which is 30 percent of the population as a sample from the two classes randomly. To collect the data, the researcher uses three techniques: Observation, Test, and Library research. The study reveals that there are many students that do not understand how to use relative pronouns (who, whom, which, whose) correctly.

Abstract

By looking at their smart phones people automatically read what they find on the internet. People today tend to choose digital newspaper than traditional newspaper, from the economy side it is cheaper, and of course it is paperless, in short it is so much easy than reading the traditional one. There are many online newspapers that we can get easily from the internet. The focus in here is by knowing the negation markers used in Indonesian online newspapers. As reader, we can easily get the point of what the article said. Related to such problems above, the aim of the research is to analyze the negation markers in the online News. This research is conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data are collected from Indonesian “Jakarta Globe” Online article. Literature review and relevant research have been observed to obtain the description of the data. From the data gained, it can be concluded that the most frequently used of Negation is found in Tenses (41.18%), followed by the used of Negation in Words (39.22%), and the least is found in Modal-auxiliaries (19.61%).

Abstract

The objective in this research is that there are various obstacles in the implementation of online learning due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic experienced by Golden Kidz teachers, Jakarta. This research uses a descriptive case study design with a qualitative approach. In this research, the key instrument is the researcher. The data in this study are the obstacles faced and the source of interview data from subject teachers at the Golden Kidz School Jakarta, there are 3 people. They were selected as informants based on the problems experienced by the teacher during the implementation of online learning. Collecting data using interview techniques. To test the validity of the data, the researcher triangulated the time by comparing the results of the interviews. Based on data analysis, the results of the study indicate that there are several obstacles that become teacher problems during online learning at Golden Kidz School. These problems include (a) internet access, (b) technology literate, (c) lack of student interest in learning, (d) difficult communication, (e) limitation of teachers in preparing learning materials.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the compatibility between the critical reading skills and the reading passages in the textbook with the syllabus and global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) topics. The method used in this research was a qualitative descriptive method that utilized the critical reading textbook as a sample. The sample of the research was taken by using a checklist and the result of the research will be shown by percentages. The results find that the textbook has 100% compatibility with all of the criteria in the syllabus and has only 47.05% compatibility with the SDGs topics. It means that this textbook is recommended to be used as one of the teaching references in critical reading courses but the authors are suggested to construct some adjustments so that students will get the latest reading material as the times change which is related to SDGs in order to foster the students’ awareness, empathy, and compassion in facing global issues.

Abstract

The purpose of reading skills is not only to look for factors related to reading material i.e. topic and main idea, but also sometimes EFL students must get the latest reading material as the times change in getting those material related with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, learning material must be in accordance with the needs of the EFL students, and SDGs represent a broad, integrated to catalyze implementation of sustainable development.  The textbook will be analyzed in this research is Reading Comprehension book 2 for 3rd semester written by Parlindungan Pardede published by Unindra. There are many text book evaluation criteria; however, this research will focus in SDGs. The objective of the research is to analysis whether the “Reading Comprehension Skill Book 2 “is considered relevant to the SDGs criteria. In this research, the writer employs a descriptive-   quantitative   content analysis   with qualitative approach. According to analysis, the composition of that textbook shows that this meets the criterion in terms of objectives, that is the objectives laid out in the beginning and proved with the materials that are relevant to, elaborating through standard of curriculum only 32% of the whole materials. Unfortunately, there are many improper materials which are not suitable with KKNI criteria. The explanation among units are not only provided, but also sometimes EFL students must get the latest reading material as the times change in getting those material related with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, learning material must be in accordance with the needs of the EFL students, and SDGs represent a broad, integrated to catalyze implementation of sustainable development.
