Abstract

This article analyzes the worldview of the memoir of H.G. Nahuys van Burgst, Resident of Surakarta, entitled Verzameling van officiele Rapporten, betreffende den Oorlog op Java in de Jarren 1825-1830, as a polemic with H.J.J.L. Ridder de Stuer. His memoirs represent a typical Dutch government worldview based more on colonial interests and power tendencies. The colonial interests made colonial goverment have a tendency and take a certain position from the start against Islam and the cultural and Islamic characterist resistance movements launched by Diponegoro and Kiai Modjo. The descriptive analysis of the memoirs about the Javanese War which is presented chronologically makes it easy for us to reveal how war figures put Islam as the motivation for war, the spirit, the basis for thinking, the strengthening of the support network, the basis for regulation, and the justification for starting or ending the war. Meanwhile, the colonial government saw Islam as being used as a foster for the character’s socio-vertical mobility ambitions, as an identity, propaganda material, and procedures in oath-taking ceremonies.

Abstract

This study presents the thought and the role of Prof. Zakiah Daradjat, a modern female Muslim leader with multitalents in Indonesia. She is an expert in psychology of religion and mental health, both in theory and practice. Amazingly, she masters the western and eastern psychological theory, and then constructs them into her own theory which is linked to primary, middle, and high educational level. Practically, she achieves her expertise and skill in psychotherapy and counseling by teaching, writing, preaching, and opening a private counseling practice. Her main source is the fundamental doctrine of religious teachings: prayer, charity, fasting, and pilgrimage in which she thoroughly analyzes by revealing the dimensions of mental health in them. By using descriptive analysis on her books and translated works as primary sources, and applying interview technique with teachers as well as observation technique on cases that exist at Ruhama Islamic Educational Institution, under the auspices of the Prof. Dr. Zakiah Daradjat Foundation Jakarta, some interesting findings are discovered. Scientifically, no one has previously comprehended mental health and psychology of religion before Zakiah. In turn, both disciplines are applied at Colleges for Religious Studies (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan- hereinafter called PTK) in the form of an academic supervisory. Initially, it was counseling, but has now evolved into coaching and training. Meanwhile, the implementation of her thought in Ruhama focuses on guidance and counseling. At last, this study shows Zakiah’s thought does not only influence the concept of psychology of religion and mental health, but also affects the practice of counseling in primary, middle to high educational institutions.

This study used a quantitative approach with multiple regression analysis methods with a significance level of 0.05 or 5%. The sample consisted of 200 santri in pesantren of West Sumatra, taken using a non-probability sampling technique. The data collection instruments used the Wong and Law's Emotional Intelligence Scale, the Big Five Inventory and the Revised Olweus Bullying/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ). The results of this study indicate that there is a significant influence on emotional intelligence and big five personality toward bullying behavior of santri. Emotional intelligence consist of self-assessment, emotional assessment of others, emotional regulation, emotional use. Abstract

The disturbing, destructive and detrimental religious-political relations between Muslim warriors, kings or sultans, princes, and the santri Muslims in the archipelago during the VOC and Dutch colonial era, were not the same throughout Indonesia. Islamic relations with colonial rulers with high tension and heating up, perceived by Muslims as jihad not only because of the despotic ruler factor but also because of non-Muslim factor. The case of Kampung Jawa Tondano, Minahasa, provides evidence that the three-party social-religious relation, namely Muslim-Christian-colonial ruler, is unlike in other parts of Indonesia. This study came to the conclusion that the Muslim warriors in Kampung Jawa Tondano have a good ability in adaptation, acculturation and resilience while still embracing Islam, performing rituals, keep their religious identity and traditions in their daily life, but maintaining good relations with Christians despite refusing to accommodate with the Dutch.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v24i3.6173

Abstract

Abstract

The UNESCO ranking (2016) and BAN S/M accreditation data show that the quality of Indonesian education is still low, and this is triggered by the quality of its teachers. It is predictable that approximately 1500 schools and 70 thousand teachers owned by Perguruan Alkhairaat in Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, also play an important role in the education process, especially in Central and Eastern Indonesia. The study aims to prove the influence of work motivation and psychological well-being on the performance of teacher at Perguruan Alkhairaat. This study uses a quantitative approach with 210 teachers. The sampling technique used is a non-probability sampling technique, namely accidental sampling. The teacher’s performance measurement tool uses the Teacher’s Job Performance Self-Rating Questionnaire (TJPSQ) developed by Amin et al. (2013), the work motivation measurement tool uses The Motivation for Teaching Scale developed by Abos et al. (2018), while the psychological measurement tool well-being using Psychological Well-Being Scales (PWBS) developed by Ryff (1989). The result of the research significance value is .000 (P < .05) meaning there is a significant influence between work motivation and psychological well-being on the performance of teacher at Perguruan Alkhairaat. The results of the regression analysis test showed that R Square .282 or 28.2% showed the large influence of work motivation and psychological well-being on the teacher performance at Perguruan Alkhairaat.

Abstract

Prudent study and analysis of the religiosity instruments that have been circulating it are found that there are many variations of instruments measuring the religiosity of Muslims. This is due to differences in the conceptual constructs used by the researchers as the basis for developing such instruments. The use of concepts and instruments that are not based on Islamic religiosity has the potential to distance the measuring instrument from what psychological behavior to be measured, while the measuring instrument based on Islamic religiosity is also not yet fully solid, in line, and be close to each other with Islam. Dissatisfaction with the instruments based on the constructs and instruments of Islamic religiosity that have been compiled has encouraged researchers to develop religious instruments based on Islamic teachings in a precise and solid manner. This instrument is called the Kāffah of Islamic Scale (KIS). The results of the psychometric test and empirical data show that the Kāffah of Islamic Scale (KIS) has a good factor structure through the testing phase of the unidimensional fit model. The Kāffah of Islamic Scale (KIS) measuring instrument consists of five dimensions, namely belief, formal ritual, interpersonal, personal, and morality. There are 33 valid items to measure the Islamic construct of the kāffah composed of five items representing the belief dimension, six items representing the formal dimension of ritual, thirteen items representing interpersonal relationships, twelve items representing the personal dimension, and three items representing the morality dimension. Overall, the results of this research provide preliminary evidence to support the use of the Kāffah of Islamic of Scale (KIS) as a measurement tool that has conceptual and psychometric strengths.
