Abstract

Leukocytes have an important role in driving away infections from pathogen microorganism by phagocytosis together with macrophages. The aim of this research was to analyze the leukocytes’ differentiation (eosinophil, basophil, neutrophil, lymphocytes, and monocytes) of mudskipper‘s blood (Periophthalmodon schlosseri). Samples were taken from desa Tanipah Kalimantan Selatan. The sampling locations were decided by purposive or taking the data intentionally according to the consideration of mudskipper‘s location which is not homogenous. The data collection were conducted using Line Transect which means the sample was taken according to how many encounters can be taken. There were 15 mudskippers taken from Desa Tanipah used in this research. The parameter observed wasthe differentiation of leukocytes which consists of the percentages of monocytes, lymphocytes, eosinophil, basophil, and heterophil. The result showed that the percentage of lymphocytes in mudskippers is 62+4,1%  and monocytes 24,7+0,8%, and the  neutrophil is 0,5+0,1% and eosinophil 0,6+0,1% and no basophils were found. According to the  result, it can be concluded that lymphocytesis the most dominant one amongst others.

Abstract

Timpakul fish (Periophthalmodon schlosseri) is a kind of fish which able to live long in the land. One of the habitats of the fish is Barito river estuary. The development of land conversion which high enough at Barito river estuary into the area of fishponds and rice fields cause P. schlosseri must adapt to the environment disturbed. The research aimed to determine the adaptation of P. schlosseri in fishponds and rice fields habitats in Barito river estuary. The research is conducted by using the method of line transect, that is by walking in the area of rice fields and fishponds in Barito river estuary with the object of observation consisted of nest and activity of P. schlosseri. The results of observation showed that the density of P. schlosseri was relatively small at 0.54 individual/hectare in paddy fields areal and 0.84 individual/hectare the area of aquaculture. The relatively low density of fish was caused by nature solitary and carnivorous fish. The adaptation of P. schlosseri in the areas of fishponds and paddy fields could be successful because it was supported by adequate food source, that were crab, shrimp, frog and small fish and predators were relatively few. Abstract

Abstract Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still a health problem for the people of Banjarbaru. This disease can be prevented by avoiding the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The mosquito population of Ae. aegypti has a high potential to carry out biting activities. Therefore, mosquito control is the main focus in controlling DHF. The one house one larva monitor program by carrying out 3M activities (bury, cover and drain) water containers is relatively effective. However, knowledge about the life cycle is not the same among residents, so the implementation of this program is still constrained. With this background, the Lambung Mangkurat University Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences service team held counseling for Dasa Wisma Jasmine 5 about the life cycle of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The implementation of this service provides insight into the life cycle of the Aedes aegypti mosquito followed by the practice of trapping mosquito eggs. The hope of this program is to increase knowledge, change attitudes and take action in residential areas so that they do not become breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Keywords: DHF disease; Aedes aegypti; knowledge; attitude; action
