Abstract

Media literacy for children is important and crucial issue in digital era since it influences children’s development. Some findings show that some sexual abuse cases happened because most of the people are media illiterate, specifically the predator, the victims and people around the victims. Unfortunately, study on media literacy for children in the context of Indonesia is limited. Thus, the article will describe the literatures of learning strategies that assumed effective in developing media literacy of the children. This study is part of ongoing project entitled,” Program Pengembangan Model Desa Ramah Anak Anti Kekerasan Seksual Melalui Pembentukan “Komunitas Sayang Anak” oleh Posdaya Terintegrasi dengan BKB dan BKR Desa.” The literature review method was employed in this study to review and analyze some theories andconcepts related to the program. Data analysis was conducted to categorize the themes that suitable and applicable for the children. The data showed that media literacy development of the children should focus on some aspects, and those are: (1) parental guidance, (2) children’s critical thinking skills, and (3) kinds of media. The development of each aspect should be developed based onthe children’s developmental stages and learning styles.          Keywords: media literacy of children, early childhood education, sexual abuse of children.

Abstract

Languange skill is one of important skills developed in early years of a child. It is more than a tool for communications; it is an avenue for creative expression and tools that humans use to communicate or share thoughts, ideas and emotions (Logan et al., 1972). Right stimulation from adult, in this case: parents, other family members or teachers is needed to developed this skill. Unfortunately, when a child comes to school he is too often told to sit down and to be quite at a time when the right kind of talking is the key to succsesful learning (Logan et al., 1972). This paper is a part of a study about the teachers’ stimulations in language learning at Kindergarten held in Bandung in 2010. One of the aims of the study is to analize whether the language stimulations done by the teachers in Kindergarten are suitable with the concept of language stimulations based on theory proposed by Yawkey, et al. Abstract

Spatial sense merupakan salah satu aspek kemampuan matematis yang harus distimulasi pada anak usiadini. Penelitian terdahulu menunjukkan kekeliruan pengembangan aspek kemampuan matematis padaanak usia dini dengan penugasan akademik melalui paper pencil test. Salah satu kegiatan yangdirekomendasikan adalah melalui matematika kreatif dengan berbagai media yang menarik untuk anak.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan media matematika kreatif berbasis media digital flip bookuntuk stimulasi kemampuan spatial sense pada anak usia dini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaituEducational Design Research (EDR) dengan tujuan menghasilkan produk media pembelajaran interactiveflip book. Penelitian ini melibatkan 5 orang guru PAUD di Cileunyi sebagai partisipan dalam prosesidentifikasi awal dan uji coba produk. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara, identifikasi awal pengembanganspatial sense pada anak belum optimal. Sebagian besar pembelajaran matematika pada anak cenderungmenekankan pada aktivitas pengenalan bilangan dan operasi. Adapun uji coba media secara terbatasdalam penelitian ini menunjukkan hasil positif. Anak mampu menunjukkan kemampuan spatial senseselama proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan media interactif flip book. Penelitian ini menunjukkanbahwa interactive flip book dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu media stimulasi spatial sense bagi anak usiadini.  Kata Kunci: spasial, interaktif, flip book, anak, matematika.
