Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of humor as English foreign language teaching material to improve students’ speaking skill with of high or low motivation for the students and the effect that the use of humor gives to their teaching. Furthermore, this study was quasi experimental research named two-way (two-by-two) factorial design. The population of this study was the fourth semester Students of S1 Nursing Science Program of STIKES Muhammadiyah Kudus which covered 125 students. 80 students, later on, were choosen to be a sample, 40 as experimental group and 40 as control group. Both groups were distributed the pre-test to measure students' speaking skill. For treatment, Shade's (1996) classification of verbal humor was used. It means that the teacher in experimental group used humorous materials such as jokes, riddles and anecdotes related to the topics in each part of the lesson, during the warm up, discussing the topic and teaching new words. While in control groups used story telling material based on his or her life best experience. After 3 times treatments, both groups were distributed the post-test. The results of this quantitative study revealed that humor as teaching material has significant effect on the students’ speaking skill to those who have high and low learning motivation the way that fourth semester Students of S1 Nursing Science Program of STIKES Muhammadiyah Kudus expressed that humor in the classroom situation affected their learning positively to those who have high or low motivation rather than conventional material. Further study may also be conducted to determine whether teachers’ use of humor appears to reduce student anxiety and stress in the classroom to improve students’ speaking skill, retention, and student-teacher relationships. Since a small number of subjects were involved in this study, the results may not necessarily be extended to make a prediction about the entire population.Key words: students’ learning motivation, Humor material, Speaking skill.

Abstract

       Para pelajar atau siswa, waktu sebagian besar digunakan di sekolah. Mereka berusaha menyesuaikan diri dengan teman sekelas. Yang paling mudah dengan penyesuaian diri mereka adalah dengan melakukan tindakan yang sesuai dan diterima oleh teman sekelas, sikap dan perilaku yang ditiru ada yang bersifat positif maupun negatif. Salah satu perilaku negatif adalah bullying. Bullying adalah perilaku atau tindakan menyakiti orang yang lebih lemah, baik secara fisik, verbal, maupun psikis. Tujuan  penelitian ini adalah mengetahui faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kejadian bullying pada anak sekolah. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif korelasi ini dilakukan terhadap 110 responden anak sekolah yang berkunjung ke MTs YPI Klambu dari tanggal 2 pebruari sampai 3 pebruari 2014.  Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ada hubungan dengan kejadian bullying pada anak sekolah di MTs Yayasan Pendidkan Islam (YPI) Klambu dengan nilai p value masing – masing adalah 0.000 (faktor keluarga, faktor sekolah, faktor teman sebaya dengan kejadian bullying). Hendaknya pihak sekolah lebih melakukan pengawasan dan memberikan bimbingan terhadap siswa didiknya. Diharapkan tidak ada kekerasan antar teman di sekolah. Keluarga memberikan kasih sayang dan perhatian pada anaknya.Tidak terjadi kekerasan pada keluarga. Keluarga tidak menunjukkan percekcokan di depan anaknya.

Abstract

PPH or what can be called Halal Product Process Assistance in PDM Kudus is a community service activity where this service assists micro and small business actors in PDM Kudus City in order to assist in making or processing the halal products or services they have. The Free Halal Certification Program (SEHATI) is a program planned by the government and is free of charge, meaning it is free. This program is offered by the Ministry of Religion through BPJPH or commonly referred to as the body that administers halal product guarantees. The SEHATI program was initiated with the aim of being a strategy to accelerate the increase in the number of micro and small business actors to become halal certified. This service activity uses the PAR (Participatory Action Research) method. The PAR method was chosen because this service activity involves community participation, especially PDM members, in assisting activities regarding the halal product process in Kudus City. The business actors who are accompanied are business actors who become and take part in PDM (Regional Muhammadiyah Leadership) lectures with various kinds of food products. Mentoring activities apart from training micro and macro business actors, also assist micro and small business actors in filling out the SJPH Manual and filling in business actor statements via the SiHalal application. Apart from that, this assistance also helps small and micro business actors in PDM in inputting data into the SiHalal application, after which verification and validation are carried out on products or services registered in the SiHalal application in the SEHATI program. Based on this, the result of this service activity is obtaining halal certification for products or services by micro and small business actors in PDM Kudus City. This mentoring activity serves to obtain more added value and further guarantee a product or service that they are proposing to obtain a halal certificate through the SEHATI (Free Halal Certificate) program. Apart from that, the result of this service activity is to provide an explanation of the importance of halal certification. Apart from being able to guarantee the halalness of products, it can also be an economic booster such as increasing market share and increasing business competitiveness. Products will be more accepted in the market, especially among Muslim consumers who need halal products in both domestic and international markets.

Abstract

Kegiatan penelitian menjadi salah satu kompetensi yang harus dimiliki oleh seorang guru yang profesional, karena salah satu guru yang berhasil (efektif) adalah bersifat reflektif. Guru yang demikian selalu belajar dari pengalaman, sehingga dari hari ke hari kinerjanya menjadi semakin baik. Kenyataan di atas rupanya menjadi perhatian, sehingga akhirnya diciptakanlah formulasi penelitian yang sesuai untuk guru yakni Classroom Action Research atau yang lebih dikenal dengan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Para guru sekolah dasar di MI dan SD Negeri Kutuk Undaan Kudus belum mengetahui sepenuhnya tentang PTK yang sesuai dengan teori dan penerapannya. Sementara pelaksanaan PTK sangat mendukung terciptanya proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang efektif dan efisien. Kegiatan program kemitraan masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan dan workshop penguasaan PTK bagi guru-guru di sekolah dasar di Desa Kutuk Undaan Kudus dan menerapkan materi pelatihan dalam menyusun proposal dan laporan PTK. Hasil pelaksanaan program kemitraan masyarakat ini adalah terdapat peningkatan pemahaman para guru tentang profesinya, terutama dalam hal pemahaman penulisan/ pembuatan/ pelaksanaan PTK. Para guru sekolah dasar di MI dan SD Negeri Kutuk Undaan Kudus sangat tertarik untuk meningkatkan profesinya. Pernyataan ini didukung oleh antusiasnya para guru dalam mengikuti dan mengajukan pertanyaan selama pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, para guru mempunyai kehendak untuk melakukan penelitian dalam rangka meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. Di samping itu, para guru sudah dapat memahami Peraturan Menteri Negara Pendayagunaan Aparatur Negara dan Reformasi Birokrasi No. 16 Tahun 2009 tentang Pengembangan Keprofesian Berlanjut (PKB) sebagai bekal untuk meningkatkan diri.
