Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify watershed land characteristic at Batang Bungo and to analyze land suitability for developing commodity vegetables that were dominantly utilized by the local farmer. It is found that there are 17 land units in Batang Bungo watershed, that used to be basic data to determine sample. The research showed that rubber was the main crop and green vegetables as intercropping plant. The green vegetables were planted dominantly pepper, string beans, and eggplant. These plants were cropped among young rubber plants. The land suitability analysis showed about 55790.2 ha (74,06%) of watershed wide were suitable, the rest was not suitable that by the caused by erosion hazard.   Keywords : Characteristic, erosion, watershed.

Abstract

Pudak Village, Kumpeh Ulu District, is one of the rice producers in Muaro Jambi Regency, with a paddy field area of up to 180 ha. Even so, there are obstacles that often-become inhibiting factors for farmers to increase rice production. One of them is the problem of fertilizer which is always difficult for farmers in almost every growing season, besides that the attack of plant-disturbing organisms also becomes a barrier for farmers to get optimal results.Utilization of agricultural wastes such as remaining rice straw, husks, household organic waste can be an alternative that can reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers, because they are easy to obtain, inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and economical in production costs. Making compost and pesticides with active ingredient Trichoderma sp. is one of the decomposers used to utilize organic wastes around homes and agricultural land.Public service activities can increase farmers' knowledge about biological agents or antagonistic microorganisms in the form of the fungus Trichoderma sp. The method used is in the form of counseling on how to get the fungus Trichoderma sp. around farmers' land, the benefits of these antagonistic fungi are both as biological agents and decomposers, propagation techniques for application in the field. and how to apply it to rice plants. This PPM activity was able to increase farmers' knowledge about the benefits of the fungus Trichoderma sp. Apart from being a decomposer, it can also be used as a biological agent to control pests and plant diseases and can support environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture. Keywords: Antagonistic Fungi; decomposer; Trichoderma sp.; Biological Agents

Abstract

Porang (Amorphophallus muelleri Blume) is a group of tuber plants that are useful as food and medicine so that they have bright prospects for development. In Jambi Province, especially in Muaro Jambi Regency, porang plants are found growing wild among duku trees. This study aims to determine the morphological character of porang plants and to determine the level of diversity and kinship of porang plants found in Kumpeh Ulu District, Muaro Jambi Regency. The research was carried out from August to September 2021, in 18 villages located in the Kumpeh Ulu District. The research was conducted using a non-experimental descriptive method with proportionate stratified random sampling, and the sample was measured quantitatively and qualitatively. The morphological identification of porang plants from 18 villages in Kumpeh Ulu District showed similarities in bulbil shape, bulbil surface colour, bulbil surface texture, bulbil flesh colour, leaf shape and petiole colour. However, there were differences in leaf colour, tuber flesh colour, tuber surface texture and tuber shape.

Abstract

The phenomenon of people's gold mining or often called gold mining without permit (PETI) in Merangin Regency, Jambi Province is a serious problem because it occurs in productive paddy fields. This activity causes damage to paddy fields due to processes during mining activities. After the mining activity, the damaged paddy fields needed handling, especially for being reclaimed into paddy fields again. The research was conducted at the Baru Pangkalan Jambu Village, Pangkalan Jambu District, Merangin Regency, Jambi Province. The research took place from May to November 2022 which consisted of two stages, namely: 1) mapping the potential of ex-mining land to become rice fields, 2). Analysis of soil characteristics in paddy fields that have been reclaimed. Data were analyzed descriptively based on the criteria of soil physical and chemical properties based on PPT Bogor (1994). The results showed that the soil physical properties of paddy rice fields from reclamation of former mines had relatively low bulk density, coarse soil texture (sandy loam). The chemical properties of the soil indicate that the land has very low organic C and total nitrogen and a relatively acidic to slightly acidic soil pH. Research shows that the quality of this soil tends to increase with the duration of post-reclamation utilization.Keywords: Paddy field, land reclamation, unauthorized people's mining, land quality

Abstract

Penyuluhan teknologi pengendalian hayati hama dan penyakit tanaman di Desa Kasang Kota Karang, Kecamatan Kumpeh Ulu, Kabupaten Muaro Jambi, bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan petani tentang metode pengendalian yang ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan ini difokuskan pada pengenalan agen hayati sebagai alternatif pengganti pestisida kimia, untuk mengurangi dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan dan kesehatan. Melalui penyuluhan ini, diharapkan para petani dapat mengimplementasikan teknik pengendalian hayati secara efektif, sehingga produktivitas pertanian meningkat dan keberlanjutan pertanian di wilayah tersebut terjaga. Hasilnya, penyuluhan ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterampilan petani dalam pengendalian hama secara hayati.

Abstract

The community that will be the target of the outreach activities are community members who are active in Islamic Education Institutions. The main activity is to educate students who aim to master the knowledge of the Quran and also teach Islamic morals in everyday life located in Penyengat Rendah Village, Telanai Pura District, Jambi City, Jambi Province. The activities that have been carried out are carrying out activities with the outreach method and followed by field practice and questions and answers regarding the material that has been given. The outreach material provided was about environmental and health aspects related to organic waste management activities and methods for making good and correct biopore infiltration holes that are environmentally friendly. The response from participants in this community service activity was seen to be positive and had a high enthusiasm to apply the knowledge that had been gained and were aware of the importance of environmental aspects that must be considered in waste management, especially organic waste. After this activity was carried out, it is hoped that the community can disseminate the information and knowledge that has been received to be applied to other communities.

Abstract

Efforts to increase rice (Oryza sativa) production by farming communities in Pudak Village, Kumpeh Ulu District, Muaro Jambi Regency still partly depend on the use of inorganic fertilizers. An alternative to increasing production that is safe and environmentally friendly is the use of biosaccharide elicitors made from organic materials. This needs to be socialized to farmers regarding the use of biosaka made from weeds, some of which are still unknown to farmers in Pudak Village. This activity began with a discussion meeting with the head of the farmer group, the Plant Pest Organism Control Officer (POPT) to look at problems in the farmers' rice fields and continued with land observations. Then socialization was carried out to the community and continued with the practice of making biosaka and implementation in rice fields in Pudak Village. The results of this activity show that farmers are very enthusiastic about all activities from manufacture to application on the land. There were 45 participants who attended and were active until the end of the activity. The follow-up activities showed farmers practicing how to make it in their respective groups. The results of monitoring and evaluation have proven that the biosaka elicitor has been successfully produced by farmers independently as much as 30 L. The application results show a positive and better plant response compared to plots where biosaka was not applied.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The conversion of land from forest land to plantation land causes the surface of the land to be exposed for quite a long time. This results in rapid decomposition of organic matter so that the organic matter content in the soil decreases rapidly. As a result, there was a decline in physical quality. The research was descriptive exploratory, with a field survey approach using a 1:10,000 scale work map and supported by soil analysis in the laboratory. Representative areas were selected using the Stratified Random Sampling method for three types of land use, namely rubber plantations, oil palm plantations and shrubs. Each soil sample was taken randomly 3 times on a slope of 3-8%. Sampling was carried out at depths of 0-30 cm and 31-60 cm. The parameters observed in this research were soil texture (pipette method), soil structure (field observations), soil organic matter content (Walkley & Black method), soil volume weight (gravimetric method), porosity (based on calculations), soil permeability (De Boodt method), and available soil water content (Plate Apparatus-Gravimetric method). The research results show that the conversion of secondary forest land to plantation land has an impact on reducing organic matter content, soil porosity, soil permeability, and available soil water content and increasing soil volume weight. It is necessary to conduct further studies on the impact of land conversion on the quality of soil chemical properties and find solutions so that the decline in soil quality that has occurred is slowed.   Keywords: conversion, degradation, forest, physical quality   ABSTRAK Alih fungsi lahan dari lahan hutan menjadi lahan perkebunan menyebabkan terbukanya permukaan lahan dalam waktu yang cukup lama. Hal ini mengakibatkan terjadinya dekomposisi bahan organik secara cepat sehingga kandungan bahan organik di dalam tanah menurun secara cepat. Akibatnya terjadi penurunan kualitas fisik Penelitian bersifat deskriptif eksploratif, dengan pendekatan survei lapangan menggunakan peta kerja skala 1:10.000 dan didukung analisis tanah di laboratorium. Pemilihan area pewakil dengan menggunakan metode Stratafied Random Sampling pada tiga macam tipe penggunaan lahan yaitu lahan kebun karet, kebun kelapa sawit, dan semak belukar. Sampel tanah diambil masing-masing secara acak sebanyak 3 kali ulangan pada kemiringan lereng 3-8 %. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada kedalaman 0-30 cm dan 31-60 cm. Parameter yang diamati pada penelitian ini adalah tekstur tanah (metode pipet), struktur tanah (pengamatan di lapangan), kandungan bahan organik tanah (metode Walkley & Black), berat volume tanah (metode gravimetri), porositas (berdasarkan perhitungan), permeabilitas tanah (metode De Boodt), dan kadar air tanah tersedia (metode Plate Apparatus-Gravimetri). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan alih fungsi lahan hutan sekunder menjadi lahan perkebunan berdampak pada penurunan kandungan bahan organik, porositas tanah, permeabilitas tanah, dan kadar air tanah tersedia dan peningkatan berat volume tanah. Perlu dilakukan kajian lanjut dampak alih fungsi lahan terhadap kualitas sifat kimia tanah dan menemukan solusi agar penurunan kualitas tanah yang telah terjadi diperlambat.   Kata kunci: degradasi, hutan, konversi, kualitas fisik
