Abstract

Assessment is a crucial aspect of education. A critical point in the evaluation is the validity of the instruments used in conducting the assessment. However, some studies do not pay more attention to this section, which results in the invalid results of the resulting research. This study aimed to map the indicators of the Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of mathematics students and analyze their existence as components of the instruments. The subjects were 203 senior high school students of science, Manokwari, Indonesia. Test instruments that involved five critical and four creative thinking were used to measure students' HOTS. The data was analyzed using multidimensional scaling (MDS) to map the indicators. The results showed that the five indicators of critical thinking skills form a unified distribution pattern, while the four indicators of creativity tend to spread. Therefore, each indicator used has a unique contribution in explaining the HOTS of mathematics students. Abstrak Penilaian atau evaluasi merupakan aspek penting dari pendidikan. Abstract

Students need to be anxiety-free when it comes to mathematics. This phenomenon is an unpleasant sensation that interferes with someone's ability to communicate well with mathematics. Although several studies have investigated the relationship between mathematics anxiety and mathematics proficiency, none have explored the effect of mathematics anxiety on individual students' mathematics scores, particularly in biology education students. A correlational analysis was performed with quantitative research methods to explore the association between mathematics scores and mathematics anxiety. 68 participants were recruited for the study, using non-probability sampling, voluntarily and purposively. A student's mathematics anxiety was assessed using a mathematical anxiety scale. The data were analyzed by correlation and regression analysis to determine whether mathematics anxiety was associated with student success. The mathematical model is the best approximation of the relationship between variables described by the equation (3.6 + 0.0 A1 - 0.5 A2 - 1.6 A3 - 2.3 A4 - 2.9 A5). The results suggest that poor mathematics skills increase with levels of anxiety. Students with the least amount of anxiety are predicted to get passing grades of A and B, whereas those with more anxiety are likely to get lower grades of D and E.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the ethnomathematics approach in improving the understanding of geometry among junior high school students in Indonesia. The research method used meta-analysis of six quasi-experimental articles published between 2021 and 2025 that met the following criteria: (1) used a pretest–posttest design with a control group, (2) involved junior high school students as subjects, and (3) reported quantitative data in the form of means, standard deviations, and sample sizes. The effect size was calculated using the Standardized Mean Difference (Cohen's d) and combined with a random effects model. The synthesis results showed a combined effect size of d = 0.999 (p = 0.014), which is classified as a large effect according to Cohen. The heterogeneity test resulted in Q = 48.739 (df = 5; p = 0.014) and I² = 89.74%, indicating significant variation between studies. The funnel plot analysis and Egger's test (p = 0.556) showed no significant publication bias. These results prove that the integration of cultural artifacts such as batik motifs, traditional houses, and traditional games in geometry learning is effective in improving junior high school students' mathematical understanding. This study emphasizes the importance of applying ethnomathematics as a contextual learning strategy in line with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Abstract In today’s data-driven era, the rapid growth of big data has made encounters with data unavoidable for everyone, including students. Therefore, preparing students with adequate statistical literacy has become increasingly important. This study employed a quantitative non-experimental design using an ex post facto approach. It examined and compared students' statistical literacy across three types of schools in Aceh, Indonesia. More specifically, the study investigated whether school type predicted students' statistical literacy after controlling for gender and parental education. Data were collected through a statistical literacy test and a brief demographic questionnaire covering gender and parental educational background. The data were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression and Tukey HSD post hoc analysis. The findings showed that gender and parental education did not significantly influence students' statistical literacy, whereas school type did. These results suggest that different school environments may offer distinct learning experiences and opportunities for statistical reasoning and data literacy.
