Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the procedure of think pair share, the type of cooperative learning models, which can be implemented in mathematics instruction in Manokwari, West Papua Indonesia. This study was conducted at Senior High School in Manokwari (SMA Negeri 1), Manokwari West Papua Indonesia. The research was carried out using research and development methods. The Think Pair Share learning model was modified to get the procedure of implementation in accordance with  the characteristics of students studying mathematics in Manokwari,  West Papua. The results of the research showed that there were two principals in the application of the think pair share model in mathematics instruction in Manokwari West Papua, selection of group members and the determination of the number of group members. Students individually start thinking of finding answers to the assignment submitted. Group members must consist of students who already know each other well, but should not to have a similar level of knowledge, while the number of group members must start from two students.

Abstract

Assessment is a crucial aspect of education. A critical point in the evaluation is the validity of the instruments used in conducting the assessment. However, some studies do not pay more attention to this section, which results in the invalid results of the resulting research. This study aimed to map the indicators of the Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of mathematics students and analyze their existence as components of the instruments. The subjects were 203 senior high school students of science, Manokwari, Indonesia. Test instruments that involved five critical and four creative thinking were used to measure students' HOTS. The data was analyzed using multidimensional scaling (MDS) to map the indicators. The results showed that the five indicators of critical thinking skills form a unified distribution pattern, while the four indicators of creativity tend to spread. Therefore, each indicator used has a unique contribution in explaining the HOTS of mathematics students.

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in polynom factorization material using a cooperative learning model type Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFE). This research has qualitative research. The class conducted the action using teaching materials and grup worksheets, which have been adapted to the SFE model and learning is carried out in two cycles. At the end of each cycle a final cycle test is carried out, then the data obtained are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the study showed that there was an increase in the learning outcomes of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Manokwari who were taught to use the SFE type cooperative learning model on polynom factorization material.

Abstract

This research was the qualitative research that aimed to improve students understanding of junior high mathematics study. In accordance with the object to be studied, then this research is done in 3 times open class consisting of the plan, do, and see for each cycle, with the subject of research was the students of mathematics education department of FKIP UNIPA whom contracting subjects junior mathematics studies. To improve students understanding of the material, implementation of peer tutor methods was continuously modified based on the findings of each cycle. Based on the results of the implementation of Lesson Study as much as 3 cycles obtained the concluded that the learning outcomes of learners used peer tutor approach that modified each cycle has a significant increase. This was evident from students who answered the test correctly given at the end of each meeting. In the first cycle, from 27 students only 4 who can answer the test correctly that is equal to 14.81%, the second cycle, from 27 learners only 10 which was able to answer the test correctly that was equal to 37,04%, whereas in cycle III, from 26 students 21 students able to answer correctly that was equal to 80,77%

Abstract

Abstract

Students need to be anxiety-free when it comes to mathematics. This phenomenon is an unpleasant sensation that interferes with someone's ability to communicate well with mathematics. Although several studies have investigated the relationship between mathematics anxiety and mathematics proficiency, none have explored the effect of mathematics anxiety on individual students' mathematics scores, particularly in biology education students. A correlational analysis was performed with quantitative research methods to explore the association between mathematics scores and mathematics anxiety. 68 participants were recruited for the study, using non-probability sampling, voluntarily and purposively. A student's mathematics anxiety was assessed using a mathematical anxiety scale. The data were analyzed by correlation and regression analysis to determine whether mathematics anxiety was associated with student success. The mathematical model is the best approximation of the relationship between variables described by the equation (3.6 + 0.0 A1 - 0.5 A2 - 1.6 A3 - 2.3 A4 - 2.9 A5). The results suggest that poor mathematics skills increase with levels of anxiety. Students with the least amount of anxiety are predicted to get passing grades of A and B, whereas those with more anxiety are likely to get lower grades of D and E.
