Abstract

Kakawin Brahmândha Purâna or Kakawin Pretu Wijaya is a kakawin which contains the story of a very cruel king named King Wena. His government was featured by cruelties. The advices given by his ancestors and the priests were always neglected. He defied every religious teaching introduced to him. When the priests advised him, he challenged them instead of listening to them. As a result, a war took place between the priests and king Wena. When the priests were pressured, they hit his arm, causing it be pregnant and a son named Pretu was born. Therefore, his full name was P?tuWijaya, who was then crowned the king. The story was continued with the names of highly beautiful mounts, lakes and places located in the territory of Baratawarsa The study was intended to spread the educational values which the kakawin contains which can be used as guidance by the young generation. Apart from that, the study was also intended to document the story. The theory used in the current study is the theory of literary deconstruction developed by J. Darrida. The research method used included data collection, data analysis and the descriptive presentation of the result of data analysis. The educational values which were found in Kakawin Brahmana Purana are as follows: the educational value of morality, the religious educational value, and the educational value of unity and oneness. It was composed in the era of the reign of I Dewa Agung Istri Kania, who governed the Klungkung kingdom. The fact which showed this was that the queen, Sri Prakerti Wiryya, who was old, is mentioned in the kakawin.

Abstract

This article analyses children’s images and rights described in Kakawin Niti??stra, Old Javanese poem about politics and moral didactics). The issue of children’s images and rights have become serious challenges and problems for all components of Indonesian society. Various cases of violence still facing children in Indonesia, including cases of sexual harassment, illegal adoptions, children without birth certificates, drug addicts, to human trafficking. Therefore, fulfillment and protection of the rights of children is a shared responsibility. The issue of children’s images and rights as stipulated in the text Kakawin Niti??stra assess through a critical hermeneutic approach by integrating interpretation and philosophical reflection. Imagery and children’s rights in Kakawin Niti??stra interpreted textual or contextual. Meaning of the text thought out and sought its reflection in relation to the meaning of life. Text Kakawin Niti??stra explain the issue of positive image (suputra) and negative (kuputra). Similarly, the rights of children described in the text Kakawin Niti??stra includes their right to grow and develop, the right to education, the right to receive attention, affection, and protection of various acts of violence

Abstract

This study examines the Uttarakāṇḍa text which tells the life of Rawana's family and his three brothers who have different characters. The aim is to obtain a clear picture of personality through the four brothers in Uttarakāṇḍa through the id, ego, and superego in the theory of Literary Psychology. This research is a qualitative literature study, using observation and descriptive methods, and presented with informal methods. Furthermore, Rawana has the desire to marry Sita, looking for a way to seduce Sita to become his wife, Rawana controls his emotions when Sita does not answer his question. Furthermore, the character Kumbakarna has the desire to ask for a gift from the gods in the form of eternal sleep, he worships and obeys the orders of the gods, Kumbakarna also looks for ways to have a place to sleep. Furthermore, Surpanaka's character has the desire to cry because he is sad because his husband died, he looks for a way to complain to Rawana which makes him a widow. After getting an explanation from Rawana, he controlled the emotions he felt over the death of his lover. Furthermore, Wibhisana desired to ask for a gift from the gods in the form of the glory of knowledge, so he worshiped and obeyed the orders of the gods. When there was a meeting with Rama, Wibhisana took Rama's orders to leave the meeting place and go to Lengka.
