Abstract

ABSTRACT In line with the regional government programs in sustaining the agricultural ? livestock farming system. An informative talk on enhancing performances and productivity of kacang goat was held at Penatih, Badung reegency on the 20th Dec. 2002. The aim of the community service is to fulfill the farmer?s knowledge and their technical skill in choosing and applying proportional feed stuff, especially using ammonium sulfate mineral as feed supplement on grass-legume based diet. This material which has the capasity to promote rumen microbial growth and their activity in digesting low quality diets. Composing and mixing concentrate diets has also been demonstrated and 4 dietary treatments were tested using 12 goats during a period of 15 days. Ration ( R) A contained 97% rice bran + 3% am. Sulfate; RB was 97% rice brand + 3% mineral miz; RC was pollard + 3% am. Sulfate and RD was 97% pollard + 3% mineral mix. Body weight gain were monitored through out the trial period. The result indicated that quality of ration caused improvement of performance and productivity of kacang goats. Body weight gain being increased to 0,067 ? 0,300 kg/head/day for diet A, C, and D, which the highest mean values of 0,217 kg/head/day were obtained for diet D. This situation may due to the present of ammonium sulfate plus zinc (Zn) mineral to the legumes basal diet, which can act as metabolic modulator . In general, most of the participants (90%) have a very good responses and acceptance for the beneficial information given to them.

Abstract

Natural resources of Klungkung regency particularly at Takmung village according to Bali forages survey in 1992, was very potencial for developing farm animals (goat and cow) due to its highest forages production especially green legumes. Those potencial however, were not optimally used by the farmers which lead to the unsuccessful production attainment. Due to this condition, the community service for farmers at Takmung village, howevr was conducted on 13th August 2010. The aim of this activity was to deepen their knowledge and skill particularly with more emphases on the agribisnis aspect of farm management. The method used is by socialization in rearing and management practices of PE goat as one of the promising commodity in order to increase milk and meat production both in quantity and quality. In this activity include discussion and demonstration how to compose concentrate and forage ration adequately, how to attain fresh, clean and healthy milk from the dam goat. Twenty eight farmers were involved as participants with 5 presenters as lectures or instructors. According to the evaluation results during this activity, the participants were very enthusiastic which can be seen by a lot of questions raised during discussion session, as well as during demonstration practices. Results from pre and post-test evaluation suggests that the participants improved their knowledge and skill for those 5 aspects: in slection, feed and nutrition, reproduction, milk production and handling, and waste product handling and fertilizer were increased 27,76%, 33,33%, 27,77%, 5,55%, and 16,67% respectively. From these results it can be suggested that in this services our innovation can be adopted by the farmers and hopefully they can implement practically in the field. We also suggest that they could form a strong and professional farmer group which are also provided to spread out this innovation among their communities.

Abstract

Eri silkworm (Samia cynthia ricini) is a potential silk producing insect in Indonesia. This study aimed to analyze the production performance of the S. c. ricini silkworm with cassava leaves feed (Manihot utilissima) and their cocoon productivity that mounting on different mountages (wood and carton),and also calculate the financial analysis. The silkworm was reared in altitude 176 m asl. Production performance observed were feed consumption (ingesta and digesta), larval productivity (length, breadth, and weight), and cocoon productivity (the effective rate of rearing and cocoon quality). Feed consumption and larval production were analyzed descriptively, the effective rate of rearing was compared using a t-test, cocoon quality was analyzed using a completely randomized design factorial 2 × 2 pattern. The first factor was sex and the second factor was mountages media that were used with three replications. Financial analysis was calculated using profit, R/C ratio, and BEP. The results showed the optimum consumption of cassava leaves during the study was 27.17 ± 2.39 g of feed ingestion and 19.15 ± 2.30 g of feed digestion. Mountages media did not significantly (P>0.05) influence the effective rate of rearing and cocoon quality. Cocoon weight, pupal weight, and shell ratio was affected by cocoon sex. Financial analysis calculation result showed that wood mountages gives the best value, with the profit value was Rp 21.877.819/year, R/C ratio was 1.61, BEP of yarn was 5.67 kg, BEP of eggs was 110.10 box.
