Abstract

Integration of gasification with CO2 capture using CaO sorbent is proposed as an alternative treatment to convert municipal solid waste (MSW) into energy. Aspen Plus process simulator was employed to study the process. Two models were built to represent the non-sorbent and the sorbent-enabled MSW gasification. The model validation against available experimental data shows high accuracy of the simulation result. The effect of CO2 capture using CaO sorbent on the syngas composition and lower heating value (LHV) was observed by comparing the two models, and sensitivity analysis was performed on both models. Several process parameters affecting the syngas composition and LHV were investigated, including CaO/MSW ratio, temperature, equivalence ratio, and steam/MSW ratio. The addition of CaO sorbent for CO2 capture was found to successfully reduce the CO2 content in the syngas, increase the H2 composition, and improve the syngas LHV at the temperature below 750 oC. The maximum H2 composition of 56.67% was obtained from the sorbent-enabled gasification. It was found that increasing equivalence ratio leads to a higher H2 concentration and syngas LHV. Raising steam/MSW ratio also increases the H2 production, but also reduces the LHV of the syngas. Observation of the temperature effect found the highest H2 production at 650 oC for both non-sorbent and sorbent-enabled gasification.

Abstract

Microalgae is known as the future bioenergy resources due to its unlimited potential and availability. One of the numerous paths to acquire an energy source is gasification, which produce syngas and methane as a hydrocarbon fuel or feedstock product. To set up an efficient gasification plant, several essential information is needed including the effect of oxidizing agent and steam to carbon (S/C) ratio to energy efficiency on certain biomass properties. This paper aims to study the highest exergy possibility on microalgae gasification process by examining the effect of steam and air flowrate independently via ASPEN Plus simulation. The result was validated with experimental data to verify the simulation reliability. It was found that the thermodynamic based simulation is suitable to predict the reactor behavior and acquire an optimum operating condition.Keywords: microalgae; gasification; exergy; simulation

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat sistem pembelajaran yang menuntut mahasiswa agar bisa belajar lebih efektif dan memiliki kemampuan sesuai yang dibutuhkan dalam dunia kerja, juga memicu mahasiswa untuk kreatif dan antusias pada mata kuliah Teknik Lingkungan. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa PSTK UII yang mengikuti mata kuliah Teknik Lingkungan tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Data dikumpulkan sesuai objek penelitian, yaitu: (1) implementasi blended learning melalui observasi dan (2) persepsi mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran melalui angket. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Metode pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dalam program ini adalah integrasi kuliah tatap muka, praktikum dan expo. Hasil pengukuran capaian dari indikator keberhasilan program adalah kemampuan mahasiswa dalam memahami dan melaksanakan praktikum pirolisis ditunjukkan dengan hasil nilai pre test, UTS, post test dan praktikum, tingkat ketercapaian pembelajaran yang dihitung dari jumlah mahasiswa dengan nilai sama dengan atau lebih tinggi dari B adalah sebesar 94% dan tingkat ketercapaian kepuasan mahasiswa dihitung dari jumlah mahasiswa yang memberikan respon setuju dan sangat setuju terhadap kegiatan praktikum dibagi dengan jumlah responden adalah sebesar 100%. Berdasarkan hasil yang telah dicapai, metode pembelajaran yang telah diusulkan akan dilanjutkan untuk masa yang akan datang, namun perlu adanya peninjauan kembali terhadap kurikulum, capaian pembelajaran mata kuliah dan pelaksanaan pre test serta post test yang berkaitan dengan kehadiran mahasiswa.

Abstract

The home industry is the backbone of the development of MSMEs in Indonesia which is growing quite rapidly so that it has a positive impact on strengthening the economy, both at the regional and national levels. The production of emping melinjo UMKM has emerged in Giriasih Village, Gunungkidul, the emping melinjo business actors are dominated by housewives with the majority of junior high and high school education levels. The limited ability and minimal knowledge and skills possessed by the emping melinjo business actors in developing the business, the emping melinjo industry which should have been able to become a superior product of local MSMEs, has not been able to develop properly, this is the background to this community service being carried out in Giriasih Village. The goal to be achieved in this community service is to provide assistance to emping melinjo industry actors in making product packaging and managing business legality. The implementation of this community service activity uses stages and methods of service starting from counseling, training and assistance for emping melinjo business actors. The output of this community service includes mandatory outputs in the form of journal article publications and additional outputs in the form of packaging design documents and business legality as well as national seminars on the results of community service.
