Abstract

Streptococcus mutans is a positive gram bacteria which cause dental caries. From the several previous studies, Gamal leaf has been predicted as the antibacterial agent because of their active substance such as tannins, alkaloids, saponins, and flavonoids. The objective of the study was to know the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of Gamal leaf (Gliricidia sepium) for Streptococcus mutans in various concentrations. This study was a true experimental with post-test only control design. The determination of antibacterial activity in this study was conducted by using Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method with the various concentrations, there were 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80%. The positive and negative controls in this study were 30 µg disk diffusion of chloramphenicol and the 96% of ethanol. The average inhibition of zone diameter in the concentrations of 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80% were 11.3, 12.3, 13.4, 15.3 and 19.2 mm, respectively. One Way ANOVA statistical analysis showed that the value of p was 0.000, so there was a difference of growth inhibition zone of Streptococcus mutans in various concentrations of ethanol extract of Gamal leaf (Gliricidia sepium). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Gamal leaf (Gliricidia sepium) have strong antibacterial activity, especially to Streptococcus mutans bacteria.

Abstract

Since its emergence at the end of 2019, WHO has designated COVID-19 as a pandemic after 114 countries were infected by the virus. The rate of transmission and spread of this virus is very massive. COVID-19 can be transmitted easily from human to human through close contact and droplets. According to several studies, the corona virus that sticks to various surfaces of objects can be effectively removed by using various types of disinfectants. The widespread use of disinfectant liquids in the community is not accompanied by sufficient knowledge, causing misuse which causes less effective disinfection and can even cause side effects for health and negative impacts on the environment. The purpose of this activity is to provide education to the public so that they understand how to manufacture and use disinfectants properly so that they are effective and avoid side effects on health. Implementation of this activity were 60 people, consisting of: representatives from the village apparatus, Sekehe Teruna Teruni, PKK and health cadres representing the Cempaga village, Bangli distric-Province of Bali. The method of devotion carried out in this activity are the lecture, discussion and training method. The training was held for 3 (three) days, consisting of lectures on disinfectants and environmental disinfection methods, as well as demonstrations of making disinfectants delivered by village representatives. The result of this activity is that there is an increase in knowledge about COVID-19 targeted training at the level of knowledge category both before training by 25% and after training to 63.33%. And there is an increase in knowledge about environmental disinfection for the prevention of COVID-19 training targets at the level of knowledge both before training by 16.67% and after training to 63.33%. It is recommended to carry out environmental disinfection in the surrounding environment using household materials and carry out environmental disinfection safely both for public health and for the surrounding environment.

Abstract

Background Anemia in pregnancy is a major health problem in developing countries with a high level of morbidity in pregnant women. The incidence of anemia in pregnancy is a condition of pregnant women with hemoglobin (Hb) levels 11 g/dL in the first and third trimesters, meanwhile in the second trimester Hb levels 10.5 g/dL. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of hemoglobin levels in pregnant women in the work area of Puskesmas Tampaksiring I. The research method used a descriptive type of research conducted in January-May 2022 with a total of 38 respondents obtained by random sampling technique. Hemoglobin levels were measured by the Point Of Care Testing (POCT) method. The results showed that 38 respondents (42.1%) had low hemoglobin levels, (55.3%) had normal hemoglobin levels, and (2.6%) had high hemoglobin levels. Low hemoglobin levels were mostly found in pregnant women who were in the range of 18-25 years, with less knowledge and were in a risky gestational age (Trimester I and III) and did not comply in taking blood-boosting tablets (TTD). The conclusion of this study is that most pregnant women have normal hemoglobin levels with a percentage of 55.3%.
