Abstract

Land evaluation is the process of estimation of the potential of the land for a variety of alternative uses. Land evaluation involves conducting a survey or research shapes the landscape, nature and distribution of land, and the distribution of vegetation types and aspects of other land. This research aims to determine the level of suitability for irrigated rice in Air Hitam                             Village Lima Puluh District Batubara Regency. This research was conducted in                                    Air Hitam Village Lima Puluh District Batubara Regency and Technology Laboratory                           of  Agriculture Faculty in May 2011 - April 2012. This research uses the method of limits                refers to the level of the limiting factors of land characteristics. The data observed in the               field (the physical environment) and the data matched the results of laboratory analysis            (matching) with the criteria of suitability class irrigated rice land. The results showed that the limiting factor on irrigated land is soil depth, soil texture, and base saturation. Soil depth and soil texture can not repaired while the base saturation can repaired with the addition of organic matter. Keywords: land suitability evaluation, irrigated rice

Abstract

Most of farmers using crop rotation of rice- watermelon to residuemanure straws fromharvested rice at Air Hitam Village, Lima Puluh Distric. The research was conducted to study somephysical characteristics and soil organic matter at two crop rotation (rice – rice and rice -watermelon). The samples were taken at 0 – 20 cm soil depth and at there plots each crop rotation.The parameters of soil measured were temperature, total porosity, bulk density, permeability andorganic matter. The result showed that all parameters were not different significantly between croprotation of rice – rice and rice – watermelon except soil temperature.

Abstract

Rice and Watermelon cropping pattern has been always applied at Air Hitam Village, Lima PuluhSubdistrict, Batu Bara District. The selected cropping pattern was choosed because of rice productiondid not increase in rice and rice cropping pattern, and it will be expected that rice and watermeloncropping pattern will increase the farmer income. The difference in cropping pattern and supply oforganic matter changes in soil properties of fields. The objective of this study was to know the changesin some chemical properties of paddy soil at Air Hitam Village, Lima Puluh Subdistrict, Batu BaraDistrict which is lacated at about 18 m above sea level (asl). Parameters measured were pH usingElectrometric method, organic carbon by using Walkley and Black method, available phosphorus byusing Bray II method, exchangeable potassium NH4OAc with method, total-N by using Kjeldahl methodand available SiO2 by using ammonium acetate extraction. The results of this study showed that rice andwatermelon cropping pattern didn’t affect the paddy soil chemical properties including pH, organiccarbon, total-N, available phosphorus, and exchangeable potassium, except soil available SiO2, is higherat rice and watermelon cropping pattern compared to that rice-rice cropping pattern.Key words : cropping system, soil chemical properties.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this survey is to determine the value of the quality of irrigation water in the villageof Air Hitam in accordance with the value of irrigation water quality by U.S. Salinity LaboratoryStaff, 1954 and Ayers and Westcot, 1985. The research was conducted at the village of Air Hitam,Lima Puluh Subdistric, Batubara Distric, at the geographical of 03022'50" - 03023'6" N and 99050'34"- 99050'24" E. The results of the survey showed that the value of N, P dan Na irrigation water in thevillage of Air Hitam qualifies as irrigation water according to the standard value of Ayers andWestcot, 1985. DHL and SAR values of irrigation water before fertilizing to meet the irrigationwater standards as U.S. Salinity Lab staff.

Abstract

The Calculations of Formulae Structure of Clay Minerals on Inceptisols at University of NorthSumatera Land Kwala Bekala. The calculation have not been researched in this area. Therefore, aresearch had been conducted survey at USU Land Kwala Bekala Pancur Batu Subdistrict, DeliSerdang Regency (70 meters above sea level) in March-July 2013 by using method of calculation ofsome elements that formation of clay mineral. The results showed that the formulae is (0,025K2O +0,03Na2O + 0,001CaO) (3,27SiO2+ 0,93Al2O3) (1,77Al2O3 + 0,87Fe2O3 + 0,007MnO + 0,03MgO)(3.27SiO2+ 0,93Al2O3) (0,025K2O + 0,03Na2O + 0,001CaO) (4,12OH), this montmoriloniteminerals is not pure because the isomorphous substitution in tetrahedral and octahedral crystalrespectively, be Beidelite mineral.Keywords : Inceptisol, Structural Formulae, Montmorilonite, Beidelite

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research purposed to know the influence of the straw ricew treatmeant and the NPK fertilizerdosage to the chemical nature growth and the field rice production (Oriza Sativa L) to the soil fieldwith the SRI (System of Rice Intensification) system. This research do in Air Hitam village, LimaPuluh Sub District and analyzed in chemical and fertilizer laboratory Agriculture Faculty,University North Sumatera. This research using the draft of separate plot with the main slot of therice straw treatment on the J0 (The rest of the straw left), J1 (straw cleared and embedded), J2(Leftover straw immersed in tripe + manure) and on the sub plot of F0 (without fertilizer). F1 (doseof fertilizer NPK 50%), F2 (dose of fertilizer NPK 100%). From the research result of the strawtreatment influence to the C-organic, total N, P-available, K-exchanged soil, high of plant, numberof filler in the grain weight but not influence to the pH soil and grain weight. The fertilizertreatment influence to the plant hight and the grain weight but not in influence to the pH, C-organic, total N, K-exchanged soil, grain weigh. While the interaction between the straw treatment and thefertilizer treatment only influence the P available.Key words :SRI, straw of rice, NPK fertilizer

Abstract

Several farmers in the Village of Air Hitam Sub District of Lima Puluh District of Batubara wereused the impact of Rice-Watermelon cropping system because production of rice was descended inevery years and to increasing the use irrigate efficiency. The difference in cropping system and thelong inundation result differences paddy soil properties. This research analyzed the soil pH, Al-dd,Al saturation, Fe3+, and Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of land in the village of Air HitamSub District of Lima Puluh District of Batubara with altitude of 14 meters above sea level. Theresearch start to do on May until November 2012. The results of analyzed was procced by t-analyze.The showed that soil pH, Fe3+, CEC on Rice-Rice cropping system is lower than the Rice-Watermelon, while Al was higher in Rice- Rice cropping system than Rice- Watermelon.Keywords: Al, Fe, paddy soil, cropping system

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of zeolites and rice husk to soil Pb and growth and production of paddy rice. The research was conducted in the screen house at Faculty of Agriculture USU and soil analyzed at the Laboratory Institute for Agricultural Technology ( BPTP) Medan North Sumatra . This experiment using a factorial randomized block design with two factors , namely zeolite treatment consists of 3 levels: Z0 = 0 g / pot , Z1 = 12.5 g / pot , Z2 = 25 g / pot and rice Husk consists of two levels: A0 = 0 g / pot , A1 = 10 g / pot . The results showed that the rice husk is able to reduce levels of lead (Pb) in the soil while giving zeolite can improve plant height . The interaction between 12.5 g zeolite / pot and 10 g rice husk / pot ( Z2A1 ) increasing weight of 1000 grains . Zeolite and rice husk did not affect significantly for the number of vegetatif and generatif tiller, grain weight per pot and percent of empty grains.Keywords : zeolite , rice husk , Pb , lowland rice

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak ganggang cokelat dan Bradyrhizobium japonicum serta interaksinya dalam meningkatkan hara nitrogen dan produksi tanaman kedelai. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Rumah Kasa dan Laboratorium Biologi Tanah Fakultas Pertanian USU pada Juni-Oktober 2014, menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial, dengan 2 faktor dan 3 blok. Faktor pertama adalah konsentrasi ekstrak ganggang cokelat yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan (0, 10, 20 dan 30 % / polybag) dan faktor kedua adalah Bradyrhizobium japonicum yang terdiri dari 2 perlakuan (tanpa dan dengan Bradyrhizobium japonicum). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak ganggang cokelat berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan jumlah dan bobot bintil akar, berat kering tajuk, bobot biji, dan serapan N tanaman, namun tidak berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan N total tanah. Pemberian Bradyrhizobium japonicum berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan jumlah dan bobot bintil akar dan berat kering tajuk, namun tidak berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan N total tanah, serapan N tanaman dan berat biji. Hasil terbaik diperoleh pada kombinasi konsentrasi ekstrak ganggang cokelat 20%.Kata kunci : ekstrak ganggang cokelat, Bradyrhizobium japonicum, nitrogen, kedelai

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the type of Phosphate Solubilizing Fungi (PSF) as a result from isolated Andisol in Naman Teran district Karo sub district that affected by the eruption of mount Sinabung with some ash thickness around 0 cm (not affected), >0 cm - <2 cm (thin), >2 cm - 8 cm (moderate) and >8 cm (thick), and to determine its ability to dissolve phosphate on solid media. Isolation and potential test on solid media using media Pikovskaya with phosphate source Ca3(PO4)2. Evaluates JPF potential qualitatively by measuring the holozone diameter using index values dissolution. The results were obtained 4 PSF genus found in Andisol’s soil affected by the eruption of mount Sinabung: Aspergillus sp., Trichoderma sp., Penicillium sp.1 and Penicillium sp. 2. PSF were able to survive up to a thickness of Asharound >8cm is Aspergillus sp. Based on the test results the potential of solid media Penicillium sp.2 has the best ability to dissolve phosphate.Keyword: phosphate, volcanic ash, phospate solubilizing fungi
