Abstract

Tidal range and tidal current in Sungai Mesjid Estuary have been analyzedin order to find out whether the tidal power in this area could be generated theelectricity. Observations conducted at the end of 2007 and early 2008. Maximumtidal height was 2.8 m and current velocity 0.05 – 0.49 m/s. The tidal type ismixed predominantly semidiurnal tide, flood and ebb tide occur twice a day.Tidal energy conversion (TEC) for low current velocity has been designed.Low tidal current could generated electricity 7.72 Watts and high tidal currentable to generate 78.76 Watts. There was a positive correlation between tidalcurrent velocity and voltages as well as electric power.

Abstract

Bathymetry and tidal pattern mapping have been conducted 2007.Observation intended to present a bathymetry and tidal pattern map. From the mapit could be found the place where sedimentation happened. The result showed that sedimentation in the mouth of Sungai Masjidestuary increasing by 0.75 meter/year. Type of tidal was mixed tide predominantlysemidiurnal. During the flood tide, direction of tidal current was from North to theSouth and then to South West. South West to North East and then to North duringebb tide.

Abstract

The research was conducted on Date December 17, 2013 - December 31, 2013 in the waters of the island located in the District Augments Stimulation Meranti Islands Regency of Riau Province. Sustains Island coastal region is an area that is affected by tides and waves, where one result of the magnitude of wave and tidal current that goes to the beach cause some physical damage such as: land erosion (abrasion) in these coastal waters. The purpose of this study was to measure the speed and direction of currents, determine the type of tides, tidal currents describe Sustains Island waters, with the known velocity tidal currents, it can be seen that the damage resulted in changes in beach profile shape. The method used in this study is a survey method. On the island waters Sustains the above calculation, the average difference between the position of the high water and low water Sustains Island is 415.7 cm and the average position of the lowest water is 86.9 cm, high-elevation curves portray the sea water level. Type Sustains Island tidal tidal Sustains Island-type mix with prominent double type.     Keywords: Water Sustains Island, Oceanographic Studies
