Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the role of empathy in design thinking in enhancing the effectiveness of Civic Education (PPKn) learning. The method used is a qualitative approach with a literature review based on various scientific sources from the last ten years. The findings indicate that empathy is a fundamental element in design thinking, serving as a foundation for understanding students’ needs, experiences, and social contexts. The integration of empathy in Civic Education learning shifts the instructional paradigm from a normative and teacher-centered approach to a more participatory, reflective, and experience-based learning process. In addition, empathy contributes to strengthening students’ civic identity and civic responsibility by enhancing their ability to understand social perspectives and improve collaborative skills. In the context of Society 5.0, this approach is highly relevant in shaping citizens who are inclusive, democratic, and responsible. Therefore, empathy in design thinking plays an important role in improving the quality and effectiveness of more humanistic and contextual Civic Education learning. Keywords: Empathy, Design Thinking, Civic Education (PPKn), Civic Identity, Human-Centered Learning.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran empati dalam design thinking terhadap efektivitas pembelajaran Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan (PPKn). Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model on students’ learning outcomes in Ecology and Biodiversity among seventh-grade students at MTsN 1 Labuhanbatu. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of 64 students from two classes: Class VII-I as the experimental group and Class VII-F as the control group, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable multiple-choice achievement test. Data analysis involved prerequisite testing and hypothesis testing using SPSS version 25. The results showed that the mean posttest score of the experimental group was 80.62, which was higher than that of the control group, with a mean score of 59.87. The hypothesis test indicated that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model significantly improved students’ learning outcomes in Ecology and Biodiversity compared with conventional teaching methods, as indicated by Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that students’ engagement in home groups, expert groups, and peer-teaching activities contributed to improved conceptual understanding of Ecology and Biodiversity. This study implies that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model can serve as an alternative instructional strategy to enhance students’ learning outcomes and active participation in science learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of Virtual Reality (VR)-based instructional media on students’ learning outcomes in the respiratory system topic among Grade XI students at SMA Has Sepakat. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design. The study involved 40 students, comprising 20 students in the experimental group and 20 students in the control group, selected through cluster random sampling. The experimental group received instruction using three-dimensional VR simulations that visualized respiratory organ structures, inspiration–expiration mechanisms, and gas exchange processes, whereas the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected using a validated and reliable multiple-choice achievement test. Statistical analyses were performed using an independent-samples t-test and effect size calculation with SPSS version 22. The mean pretest score was 30.90 in the control group (SD = 9.049; 95% CI = 26.66–35.14) and 25.40 in the experimental group (SD = 8.708; 95% CI = 21.32–29.48). After the intervention, the mean posttest score increased to 60.00 in the control group (SD = 15.681; 95% CI = 52.66–67.34) and 77.80 in the experimental group (SD = 12.068; 95% CI = 72.15–83.45). The independent-samples t-test indicated a significant difference in posttest learning outcomes between the two groups (t = −4.023, p < 0.001), with a mean difference of −17.800. The effect size was 1.27, indicating a large difference between the groups. These findings suggest that VR-based instruction was associated with higher learning outcomes in the respiratory system topic. However, the results should be interpreted cautiously because the two groups differed in their initial pretest performance.
