Abstract

This study aimed to determine the practice of internationalization carried out by BeritaSatu Media Holdings in supporting global economic interests of Lippo Group Company. Internationalization is an implication of media industrialization which the media company owner sought to reduce the spatial distance to obtain greater profits. Theory of Political Economy Media used to see how media content represents the interests of certain political economy, especially from media owners. To view the practice of internationalization, the concept of spatialization was used. The analysis showed that the practice of internationalization was done by BeritaSatu Media Holdings visible from nine of thirteen brand-owned media were in English, the media focused on business economics and finance or the life of the upper class, BeritaSatu Media Holdings’ media distribution limited in cosmopolitan areas, some media published in Indonesia (The Straits Times, ThePeak) had editions in other countries, such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Of this trend was seen that the reader of BeritaSatu Media Holdings was segmented to the expatriate community and executives. The expatriate community and executives were capital market investors and financial markets, or the part of policy makers in the field of economy both in the private and public sectors who have the power or role for the current financial turnaround either within the scope of national, regional, and multinational.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the discrimination in feminine men in Sawah Lebar, Bengkulu. Discrimination occured because people only recognize two sexes, the female and male. In society, gender differences had not only biological implications, but also social and psychological because people have different expectations on the attitude, behavior, and appearance between women and men.This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. Informants were taken by using purposive sampling method. Data were collected by using interview, observation and documentation techniques. The results showed a picture of discrimination as evidenced by marginalization, subordination, stereotyping, violence, and double burden among the feminine men in society.  Keywords: discrimination, feminine men, gender differences

Abstract

The social system and structure attached to the concept of masculinity is motivated by the ideology of patriarchy and capitalism, causing the phenomenon of toxic masculinity and placing men in an upper and superior position. The purpose of this research is to reveal and get a representation of the toxic masculinity of a film. The representation of toxic masculinity has been socialized, constructed, and strengthened by a film. This research is a qualitative research with Roland Barthes semiotic analysis approach using critical paradigm with masculinity theory approach, toxic masculinity concept, and film as social reality in order to get a representation of toxic masculinity concept. The results of this study indicate that men are displayed according to social construction according to the patriarchal system, where the construction of men should not show emotions and men show anger. In addition to the patriarchal system, the ideology of capitalism is another ideology that influences the depiction of masculine men.
