Abstract

Breeding of beef cattle in Madura Island is extremely determined by using the best Madura cattle namely Sonok cows and racing bull through selection system with exploiting germ plasm conservation of Madura cattle in Sapudi Island, and improving crossbreeding programme between Madura cattle and exotic cattle. Therefore, there are three points should be done in beef cattle breeding programme in Madura Island. First, selection models by distributing the bull stocks from the central area of Sonok and racing bull cattle or using their liquid/frozen cement to the region that’s less of good bulls. Second, germ plasm conservation of Madura cattle in Sapudi Island is remained so that must be acted soon because in this time the area has been met Ongole cattle dan their crossbred. Third, crossbreeding program should be settle for the blood proportion of both Madura and sub tropiccal cattle breeds in the some of blood percentage or the contribution of sub tropics blood is in between 25 – 50% tolerated. The most easy way can be established for this policy, F1 is only produced for slaugtering or fattening male and female. Key words: Breeding, Madura cattle, Madura Island

Abstract

problem and potential of crossbreed cattle at Madura island. Survey and direct field observation were conducted in Pamekasan. Data were descriptively analyzed or using correlation-regression, and t-test and indicated that service per conception (S/C) and calving rate (CR) of Madura cattle (n=34) and crossbreed (n=38) were 1.464 and 1.986; 58.8 and 52.6% respectively. Average birth weight (n = 17), weaning weight (n = 15) and ADG (average daily gain) pre weaning (n = 15) on calf of Madura cattle were 19.78 ± 1.224 kg; 119.53 ± 9.772 kg; 445 ± 48.53 g/day. Average birth weight (n = 17), weaning weight (n = 14) and ADG pre weaning (n = 14), on calf of crossbreed offspring were 27.60 ± 1.298 kg; 171.47 ± 31.055 kg; 678 ± 146.03 g/day. It is concluded that reproductive performance of Madura cattle was greater than their crossbreed, whereas production performance on calf of crossbreed offspring was greater than calf of Madura cattle. It is suggested that good quality and continuous supply of local feed must be maintained to prevent the negative effect for their growth.   Key words: Madura cattle, Limousine cattle, crossbreed, productivity

Abstract

Baddurih Village, Pademawu, Pamekasan has potential natural resources, including the Mangrove plant ecosystem. However, this ecosystem has yet to be maximized by the surrounding community, especially by the village youth. This service activity aims to provide training to motivate the community, especially village youth, to create great business opportunities by optimizing the potential of the surrounding natural resources. The method used by researchers is the ABCD method. The ABCD method was chosen because this approach is suitable for finding out what assets and potential can be utilized like this service activity, where this community empowerment activity starts from the support and strengths of the community. This service activity is more focused on the village youth, as the community closest to the beach where mangroves are cultivated has yet to be utilized optimally by the community. In this case, the training activity was the socialization of business understanding and providing innovation to process mangroves into a product with high selling value, namely Mangrove Coffee products. The output is in the form of increasing production and quality of Mangrove Coffee products, which can help the community's source of income and provide job opportunities for the community.
