Abstract

Yogyakarta is one of the rapidly growing Indonesian cities with its strong culture to construct a distinctive transformation, especially in the rural area. The process of transformation in rural areas is a continuous process as a form of the desire to grow. The agricultural based rural area diversify into activities other than agriculture, such as small craft industry and rural tourism. This study aims to explore tools to measure the level of transformation with a qualitative approach. The uniqueness of the transformation process in the rural area of Yogyakarta inspires the preparation of transformation measurement tools with a qualitative approach by using eight indicators to produce a depth of findings. The tools are developed by using a quadrant model of the combination of potential resources with the efforts made by the occupants. Since the case study research is being used to for the analysis, the quantitative approach could be also used to validate the result of the tools. The quantitative data is taken from secondary data of satellite imagery, government institution, and field survey. Furthermore, this research provides interesting findings by its comparative study between qualitative and quantitative approach. The qualitative approach can become a tool for explaining the dynamics of the transformation of rural area as a whole, complementing quantitative results.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: This research is based on a new design on the pedestrian ways on MT. Haryono Street corridor of the Peterongan-Bangkong intersection, because the Semarang City Government made several changes to the pedestrian lane design in several locations, one of which was on MT. Haryono Street. Through this new pedestrian ways design, researchers will associate with mixed areas or mixed-use areas in the corridor that will be examined based on factors and indicators of the mixed area and pedestrian ways design. The purpose of this study is to determine the utilization of pedestrian ways in the mixed-use area which gets the highest priority based on pedestrian path users. Field data and interview results on pedestrian path users obtained were then analyzed using a qualitative deductive method combined with quantitative through sampling with purposive sampling. And it was concluded that the highest utilization of the new design of pedestrian ways in the MT Haryono Street is a function and activity.Keyword: Pedestrian ways’ utilization, mixed-use area, MT.

Abstract

The development of the city of Pekanbaru originally came from a small hamlet on the edge of the Siak river. The development of Senapelan (Kampung Bandar now) is very closely related to the development of the Sri Indrapura Siak Kingdom which brought Malay culture and architecture to Bandar Village. To learn the characteristics of an architectural building one of them can be known by studying the typology of the building. Likewise with the characteristics of houses in a settlement, this can be known by examining the typology of the houses. The purpose of this study was to determine the typology of vernacular houses based on physical elements in Kampung Bandar Pekanbaru. The typology of this house will be discussed descriptively with qualitative methods. In this study, a strategy to determine the typology of vernacular houses uses physical system parameters that will discuss typologies based on the character of the material, typologies based on space constraints and typologies based on the structure of the house. The results of the study are expected to be a foundation for maintaining and preserving vernacular houses with Malay architecture in Pekanbaru. It also can be an input for the government to be able to develop the Bandar village area by continuing to emphasize the character of Malay architecture and advanced steps such as conservation so that it can be a positive impact on the city of Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Abstract: Many informal settlements in Indonesia have been unable to survive, this is due to changes that occur in the neighborhood. This change resulted in the not surviving of informal settlements, but this did not affect the informal settlements in the city of Palangkaraya, settlements on the banks of the Kahayan river were even more developed, and began to develop towards the mainland. As climate change and the global environment increase, there is a tendency for people to conceptualize adaptation in residential buildings as a process of survival and how adaptation is practiced by people who face the negative impacts of climate change, for example in informal settlements on the Kahayan river bank, where residents adapt to building their homes to be able to withstand environmental changes. Where the neighborhood is located there are tides of the river, as well as other environmental factorsThis study is to find out how the Kahayan River settlement communities can survive, with changes that occur in the environment by analyzing using 6 strategies in building adaptation, namely: Adjustable, Versatile, Refitable, Convertible, Scalable, and Movable (Robert Schmid, 2009). Adaptation that occurs in these settlements, namely on building houses that follow climate change, times, and the environment.Keyword: Informal Settlements, Kahayan River Edge, Adaptation, Transformation.
