Abstract

Sugarcane stem borers Chilo spp. are the important pests on sugarcane estate and need the seriouscontrolling. The using of parasitoid is the one of way to control the stem borers population whichsafe for environtment and human. The objectives of the research were to study the ability ofparasitoid C. flavipes on larvae of C. sacchariphagus and C. auricilius. The research was held atLaboratory of Sugarcane Research and Development Sei Semayang, Binjai, Medan, NorthSumatera from Mei until July 2013. The method used Randomized Complete Design with threefactors, the first factor was kind of host (C. sacchariphagus and C. auricilius), the second factorwas number of host (2, 3, 4 larvae) and the third factor was method of parasititation (artificial andnatural) with three replications. The results showed that method parasititation significantly effectedthe percentage of parasititation. The highest percentage of parasititation (40,83%) on artificialparasititation and the lowest (27,30%) on natural parasititation. The number of host significantlyeffected sex ratio. The sex ratio of male and female was 1 : 1,277.Keywords : Parasitoid, Cotesia flavipes, Chilo sacchariphagus, C. auricilius

Abstract

Metarhizium able to control variable growth phase of insect, such as egg, larvae, pupae, and adult.Effect of fungicide on Metarhizium is rarely reported. This research aims to determine impact offungicide to fungal colony growth of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metch) Sorokin. Conducted at PlantPathology Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, University of North Sumatera, from August untilNovember 2013. Arranged non-factorial completely randomized design with twenty one treatmentsand three replications. Petridish contained 1 ml fungicide + 9 ml PDA, used one point technic, incubated at room temperature. The result showed that fungicide effect toward fungal colonygrowth of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metch) Sorokin. Highest fungal colony diameter was on 1.000ppm Mankozeb 80 WP which reached 7.67 cm, meanwhile lowest fungal colony diameter was on20.000 ppm Tebukonazol 25 WP which reached 0.88 cm. Highest fungal colony extensive was on1.000 ppm Mankozeb 80 WP which reached 45.23 cm2, meanwhile the lowest fungal colonyextensive was on 20.000 ppm Tebukonazol 25 WP which reached 0.53 cm2.Keywords : Metarhizium anisopliae, fungicide, biological agent.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to study the parasitization and reproduction capacity ofCotesia flavipes Cam. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) on different number and size of larvaeChilo sacchariphagus Boj. larvae (Lepidoptera: Crambidae). The research was conducted at theLaboratory of Sugarcane Research and Development Sei Semayang, Binjai, North Sumatera fromMay until June 2014. This method used Randomized Complete Design with two factors. The firstfactor was numbers of larvae Chilo sacchariphagus (1, 2 and 3) and the second factor was sizeof C. sacchariphagus (small, medium and large) with three replications. The results showed thatsize from larvae C. sacchariphagus significantly effected the percentage of parasititation. The highest percentage of parasititation (77.78%) on big larvae (2-2.5cm) and the lowest (37.33%)on the medium larvae (1.5-2cm). The day of cocoons formed were between 16-18 days. Sex ratio ofmale (41.13%) and female (58.86%) with ratio was 1 : 1.43.Keywords : parasitization, Cotesia flavipes, Chilo sacchariphagus, host size.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to study the effectivity of Metarhizium anisopliae Metch. and Beauveria bassiana Bals. against oriental leafworm moth (Spodoptera litura F.) in soybean (Glicyne max L.) was conducted at the screen house Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatra Utara, from November 2013 until April 2014, using randomized block design non factorial with 7 treatments control, M. anisopliae 104/ml, 106/ml and 108/ml, B. bassiana 104/ml, 106/ml and 108/ml with three replications. The results showed that the highest percentage of mortality in treatment for M. anisopliae 108/ml with 100%. The highest percentage of larvae become pupae in control with 100%. The highest percentage intensity of larvae on leaves B. bassiana 104/ml and for B. bassiana with 19.67%. The quickest death time was on the second day after application in treatment M. anisopliae. Keywords: Spodoptera litura, Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana, Glicyne maxThe objective of the research was to study the effectivity of Metarhizium anisopliae Metch. and Beauveria bassiana Bals. against oriental leafworm moth (Spodoptera litura F.) in soybean (Glicyne max L.) was conducted at the screen house Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatra Utara, from November 2013 until April 2014, using randomized block design non factorial with 7 treatments control, M. anisopliae 104/ml, 106/ml and 108/ml, B. bassiana 104/ml, 106/ml and 108/ml with three replications.
