Abstract

Abstract: This article aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the theory and application of Amar Ma'ruf Nahi Munkar in Islamic Theology. Amar ma'ruf nahi munkar is the practical side of Shari’a Islamiyah; regardless of their theological affiliation, every Muslim must perform it. This research thoroughly examines the primary issue through descriptive methodology and hermeneutic analysis to accomplish this objective. In Turâth Islamy, the ulama understands it differently, as the data collection and analysis results show. Qâdi 'Abd al-Jabbâr, one of the Mu'tazilite scholars, wrote in Sharh al-Ushûl al-Khamsah discussing the concept of Amar Makruf Nahi Munkar; al-Ghazali and al-Zamakhsarî have also reflected on it. The most authoritative sources in the Muslim world show that the Amar Makruf Nahi Munkar contained the element and value of humanism. It provides various important points and guidelines that individuals can apply in real-life situations. Among these points and guidelines are the doctrine that judging for good must be done in stages, according to the competence of the offender, and using appropriate methods.

Abstract

Interreligious harmony and societal synergy are critical in multicultural societies, particularly regions with significant religious diversity. This study focuses on Tarokan Village, Kediri Regency, where the community comprises multiple religious groups, including Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and the indigenous Javanese belief system, Sapto Dharmo. Given the sensitivity of religious issues and their potential to disrupt social cohesion, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation among diverse religious groups is essential.Using Participatory Action Research (PAR), this community engagement initiative actively involved residents in problem identification, program implementation, and outcome evaluation. The PAR approach empowered the multi-religious community to design, execute, and assess collaborative activities aimed at strengthening social bonds, nurturing tolerance, and promoting religious moderation as a foundation for harmonious coexistence. Key outcomes of this initiative include the establishment of a communication forum comprising youth representatives, government officials, and religious leaders. This forum facilitated the development of a shared vision for maintaining interreligious harmony through joint socio-cultural and economic activities. By emphasizing collaboration and mutual respect, the initiative reinforced the notion that religious differences should be valued as part of a shared identity while serving as a unifying force for community development. The findings highlight the importance of participatory approaches in fostering sustainable interreligious harmony and offer a replicable model for similar multi-religious communities.

Abstract

This study critically examines Ismail Raji Al-Faruqi's (1921-1986) Islamization of Knowledge (IOK) project, focusing on its philosophical consistency, real-world application, and connection to global decolonial ideas. Through a tripartite methodological approach combining critical hermeneutics, comparative epistemology, and empirical case studies, we assess the enduring contributions and limitations of Al-Faruqi's framework. Our textual analysis reveals that while the Tawhidic (Divine Unity) paradigm effectively challenges Western epistemological fragmentation, its potential for epistemic essentialism requires mitigation through greater contextual flexibility. Comparative examination demonstrates that IOK's five-step methodology, though theoretically robust for traditional disciplines, demands significant adaptation for contemporary challenges in STEM fields and digital humanities. Empirical investigations at institutions implementing IOK principles (including IIIT and IIUM) further identify a critical gap in addressing intra-Muslim power asymmetries, particularly regarding gender and cultural diversity in knowledge production. Building on these findings, the study proposes an enhanced "decolonial-Islamic" framework that: (1) maintains Al-Faruqi's core metaphysical foundations while incorporating pluralistic epistemological approaches; (2) develops discipline-specific adaptation protocols for emerging academic fields; and (3) integrates institutional assessment tools to evaluate Islamization outcomes. These contributions advance three key academic discourses: Islamic epistemology's engagement with decolonial theory, practical models for educational reform in Muslim-majority societies, and interdisciplinary approaches to knowledge decolonization. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for implementing this refined framework in contemporary Islamic higher education contexts.
