Abstract

Background: Many pregnant women experience sleep disorders in the second and third trimesters, which can lead to poor sleep quality. This study aimed to determine the effect of effleurage massage with aromatherapy oil on improving the quality of nighttime sleep for pregnant women in the second and third trimesters at Anugrah Clinic. This type of research is a quasi-experiment with a control group pretest-post-test design. The population was all second- and third-trimester pregnant women at Anugrah Clinic, with as many as 46 pregnant women. The sampling technique was total sampling, with 23 pregnant women in the experimental group and 23 in the control group. The data collection tool used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Data analysis used the McNemar test. The experimental group study showed an effect of effleurage massage with aromatherapy oil on the quality of night sleep for pregnant women in the second and third trimesters, with a value of p = 0.001. The control group study showed an effect of massage effleurage on the quality of night sleep for pregnant women in the second and third trimesters, with a value of p = 0.016. Analysis of the chi-square test data to see the difference between the experimental and control groups yielded a p-value of 0.049, meaning that there was a significant difference in the post-test sleep quality of the experimental and control groups. In conclusion, the increase in sleep quality for pregnant women was more common in the experimental group; the quality of sleep for pregnant women increased to 87%, while in the control group, the quality of sleep for pregnant women increased only 56.5%. The suggestion is that it is hoped that pregnant women and health workers, in overcoming sleep disturbances in the second and third trimesters of pregnant women, can apply effleurage massage interventions with aromatherapy oils.

Abstract

Refers to a study conducted in 2006 at an orphanage in Ecuador to determine how massage therapy can reduce the incidence of diarrhea and morbidity, whereas massage therapy is considered safe and beneficial in reducing the consumption of anti-diarrhea medication. This research aims to find out the benefit of diarrhea massage to diarrhea intensity on toddlers. The research uses Pearson Correlation with a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The toddlers under 5 years old at Puskesmas Mijen, Kota Semarang are taken to be the population in this research. This research uses a total sampling technique, with a sample of 12 toddlers. The technique of data collection uses a demographic questionnaire. The technique of data analysis is conducted by Pearson Correlation test. The result of this research found that the significance of the diarrhea massage to diarrhea intensity for toddlers at Puskesmas Mijen, Semarang is 0,001 (pvalue>0,05). The intensity of diarrhea in children under five after diarrhea massage was experienced by as many as 2 toddlers (16.7%), the intensity of diarrhea is rare in as many as 6 toddlers (50.0%), and the intensity of normal diarrhea occurs in 4 toddlers (33.3%), so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between diarrhea massage and the intensity of diarrhea in toddlers at Puskesmas Mijen Semarang.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnancy increases the risk of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, with a higher incidence in the third trimester. Although Fe tablets serve as the main therapy, non-pharmacological alternatives such as beetroot and lemon juice also have the potential to raise hemoglobin levels. Objective: To determine the effect of consuming beetroot-lemon juice combined with Fe tablets on hemoglobin levels in third-trimester pregnant women in Semarang. Method: This study applied a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pre-test post-test approach, allowing the measurement of hemoglobin level changes before and after the intervention. The study population consisted of all pregnant women in their third trimester, with gestational ages between 32 and 38 weeks, registered at two community health centers: PMB Puji Widiastuti, Amd.Keb, with 16 anemic respondents, and PMB Ika Febri Setyaning Astuti, Str.Keb, with 15 anemic respondents. A total of 31 respondents were obtained using total sampling. Data collection was conducted through observation sheets, and analysis was performed using the Mann Whitney statistical test. Results: The intervention group, which consumed beetroot and lemon juice along with Fe tablets, achieved a Mean Rank of 13.41, whereas the control group recorded a Mean Rank of 18.77, with an effectiveness difference of 5.36. Statistical analysis yielded a p-value of 0.048, indicating a significant difference between the groups. In conclusion, the combination of beetroot and lemon juice with Fe tablets effectively increased hemoglobin levels among third-trimester pregnant women with anemia. This finding suggests that such combination therapy can serve as a valuable alternative in the management of anemia during pregnancy.
