Abstract

The objective of this research is to investagate the level of drought resistance of some local corn cultivars from Timor in the germination phase. The single factor study is the genotype of maize origin of Timor which consists of 22 cultivars. The study was arranged in a complete randomized design (RAL) and repeated 3 times. The observed variables were germination (DB) expressed in% and normal dried germination weight (BKKN), expressed in grams. The analysis of heritability values (h2) was measured by comparing the genotypes of the various phenotypes (total). The h2 value was greater than 0.5 indicates a genotype diversity of drought resistance. Furthermore, the drought resistance rating based on DB difference (DB aquades-DBPEG) and BKKN aquades - BKKN PEG (BKKN aquades - PEG) difference. The result of the research shows that the calculation of h2 value of 22 East Maize cultivars on DBPEG and BKKNPEG measurements is 0.721 and 0.938, respectively, which means that there is a diversity of drought resistance of 22 cultivars tested. Muke Merah corn cultivars (flowers) Muke White (flowers), White Malacca 1, White Haikesak, White Tastim, and Red Fatumonas (flowers) have good potencial to be used as ingredients in breeding programs to obtain drought tolerant varieties of maize. Key Word: Corn, Genotype selection, drought resistance, germination

Abstract

The Growth and the Yield of Soy (Glycine max (L) Merr) Due to the Height of Water Soil Surface on Some Growing Stadia Soy is a kind of nut plants that has important role for food consumption in the world. Water – logged cultivation is a kind of technology used to improve the growth as well as to increase the yield of soy varieties where much water is available. This study is aimed at finding out the effect of interaction between the height of water level and the growing stadia on the growth and the yield of soy. The study has been done in Oebelo Village of Kupang Tengah Sub District of East Nusa Tenggara Province, started in April and ended in October 2010. This Study employed Group Randomized Design (GRD) with factorial pattern of three (3) repetitions. The first factor tried out in this study is the treatment of surface water soil height that consists of 25 cm (T1); 20 cm (T2); and 15 cm (T3).  The result showed that growing stadia consists of active vegetative (T2S1) makes the plant grow higher (55,40 cm); the leaves become   wider (56,67 cm²); the number of filled – stem increases (74,33); the plants nuts weight becomes 42,27 g  and the plants weight is 76,80 g, all of which are higher than of the treatments. It is suggested that the cultivation of soy plant should be done by means of watering down the active vegetative with the height of water level being 10 cm. Key words: Soy, the height water soil surface, growing stadia.

Abstract

Aquaponic refers to any system that combines conventional aquaculture with hydroponics in a symbiotic environment. In this study, catfish was cultured with green cabbage. The aim of this study was to observe catfish growth in aquaponics system. The growth parameters measured included feed consumption (g/day/fish), growth (g), growth rate (%/day), mean metabolic body weight (kg0.8), metabolic feed intake (g/ kg0.8/day), relative growth rate per metabolic weight (g/kg0.8/day), relative feeding rate (%BW/day), relative feeding rate per metabolic weight (g/kg0.8) and feed conversion. Factorial randomized trial was used with two factors namely fish stocking density (P) and plant substrate composition (S) with three replications. Stocking density factor consisted of two treatments which were 75-125 individuals per m2 (P1) and 126-175 individuals per m2 (P2). The composition of the substrate included two treatments, namely S1 (70% gravel+30% palm fibres) and S2 (70% pumice+30% palm fibres). The data shown that there is no significant difference of substrate and interaction (stocking density x substrate) factors to the growth of catfish (P>0.05). Whereas, for the treatment of stocking densities, a significant difference (P <0.05) was found on four growth parameters (initial weight, SGR, RGRm and feed consumption). Keywords : aquaponics, catfish, green cabbage and fish growth
