Abstract

Reformation-era opened the opportunities for political freedom and the development of religious life among the Islamic community in Indonesia. It can be seen in the strengthening of the identity and the movements of religious groups outside the mainstream religious groups, namely radicalism. Acceptance of different narratives based on religious sentiments is shown in the public space by building a distinction between "us" and "them". There is a need for an antidote toward radical understanding that resulted in acts of terror naming the deradicalization. By qualitative methods, this study indicated that during the nine years of the establishment of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) the programs are still static because the program has not been able to minimize or even eliminate radical understanding that led to acts of terror. All elements of civil society must strengthen the deradicalization program of BNPT. Both NGOs (Wahid Institute and SETARA Institute) stated that the process of deradicalization was not only on individual problems, but the social environment also played an active role. It is the state that has the ability in the process of deradicalization, but the state must involve civil society.

Abstract

Islamic teachings recorded in the hadith are closely related to the Arabic language and culture. This fact has become a challenge for Indonesian scholars to preach Islamic teachings in the archipelago. To ground the hadith, the archipelago scholars tried to articulate it in local languages, including Javanese. This is what Bisri Mustofa (1915-1978) did. This research attempts to examine how Bisri Mustofa articulated the commentaries of hadith (syarḥ al-ḥadīṡ) through Javanese in his work al-Azwād al-Muṣṭafawiyah. Specifically, this research tries to find the local context that appears in the book. By using the descriptive analysis method, this research concludes two findings. Firstly, Bisri articulates the syarah of hadith briefly and globally (ijmāli) in Javanese, which is easy to understand and comprehend. In several aspects, the syarah of hadith used the intertextual method, which links the hadith with the al-Qur'an and other related hadith (tanawwu 'al-aḥādiṡ). He also paid attention to the historicity of hadith by mentioning the reasons for the emergence of hadith (asbab al-wurūd al-ḥadīṡ). Secondly, the articulation of the syarah hadith is vibrant with the locality. Bisri does not hesitate to link the syarah hadith with local cultures such as selametan, kenduren, kondangan, and even the Javanese proverb (unen-unen). Bisri is also not awkward when he connects the explanation of the hadith with the socio-political conditions in Indonesia, such as the struggle through parliamentary seats, the Islamic Party in Indonesia, and the government's role in amar ma'ruf nahi munkar. Bisri's openness in accommodating local contexts gives its characteristics to the typology of syarah hadith in the archipelago through his work al-Azwād al-Muṣṭafawiyah.

Abstract

Lately radicalism in Indonesia is still warmly discussed. This phenomenon is a serious problem for the community. The organizational network of radicalism does not appear to be conspicuous, but if further examined lately the real threat of radicalism reemerged in Indonesia. This can not be separated from the other side of freedom of democrati- zation. The character or the soul of Indonesia as a nation, often called religus, friendly, tolerant, peaceful, gotong royong, and so on, is now being eroded and experiencing massive degradation. This paper will review the develop- ment of radicalism in Indonesia which in fact young people become agents in the process of the birth of radicalism in the perspective of sociology—the identity of young people as the next generation of the nation is at stake; how far they understand the question of radicalism in Indonesia; and youth radicalism can be seen as a response, criticism and antithesis, to orthodoxy and the mainstream that occurs in power relationships that can take the form of violence and nonviolence.

Abstract

The development of housing with the concept of gated community in Semarang City is very rapid, in line with the active efforts of developers to continue to build settlements. The outskirts of the city that previously had no selling power turned into suburbs / suburbs that were arranged according to consumer needs. This paper examines the development of the social gated community in Semarang City, namely BSB City housing. The research is focused on answering how the gated community views the development of housing in the city of Semarang and the social dynamics of the residents of the gated community, their orientation to the changes and challenges that arise. By using qualitative methods, the resulting data were analyzed to answer the research questions posed. The result of the research shows that the existence of the housing phenomenon with the concept of gated community is in line with the wishes of today's society. Gated community housing does not only reflect luxury, comfortable and safe buildings, but also its presence forms and reflects an exclusive community, social segregation, and as an impact itself that occurs in the gated community space. This paper suggests the need for assistance from related parties (stakeholders) in the process of building settlements in the suburbs / suburbs so as to avoid environmental damage both physically and non-physically.

Abstract

AbstrakThe opening of the texts of political freedom and democratization following the fall of the New Order regime not only provided space for the emergence of various expressions built on primordial sentiments and identities but also paved the way for the expansion of radicalism. Reports by a number of survey institutions indicate that Indonesia is still a fertile ground for the production and reproduction of radical ideologies that allow the continued expansion of the radical organization or network. This threat is exacerbated by high public support for intolerance and violence. This article explores how the spirit of nationality for young people in the midst of the emergence of intolerant attitudes in society, the attitude of monopolizing the truth in religion that led to acts of terror in society. It needs dialogue and reconciliation honestly and openly. The deradicalization program must now be strengthened with elements of society to create a safe and peaceful atmosphere. As a consequence of choice as a democratic country, the principle of proportionality is very important to be put forward, so that there is no majority domination and minority tyranny. Keywords: nationality, young people, radicalism, deradicalism
