Abstract

Background: The raise of aging population increases the risk of non infectious illness, as hypertensionand diabetes mellitus. A comprehensive treatment consists of pharmacological and non pharmacologicalapproach is required to control and cure those diseases. Gymnastics and Progressive Muscle Relaxationas a method of non pharmacological intervention has been denote to be beneficial to control bloodpressure and glucose level so that improved the outcome of hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The goalof this study was to determine the impact of gymnastics and Progressive Muscle Relaxation on bloodpressure and glucose level of the elderly at Posyandu Lansia Madoh, Boyolali district. Methods: Themothods used a quasi experimental with two group pre-test post-test design. Sample inclusion criteria areelderly aged 50 years or older and willing to be a research sample. As many as 26 sampel that can followthe full intervention. The hypothesis testing uses Mann Whitney Test. Results: Based on the hypothesis testthat blood pressure values obtained p = 0.626 and blood sugar levels p = 0.590. Thus it can be concludedthat gymnastics and PMR are more effective in lowering blood sugar levels than blood pressure. Conclusions: Gymnastics and Progressive Muscle Relaxation has a positive influence on blood sugarlevels than blood pressure. So it needs to be done routinely and scheduled in Posyandu Elderly activitiesin Ngesrep Village, Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency

Abstract

Background: Stroke is a health problem for both developed and developing countries, including Indonesia. Paralysis in stroke is mainly due to damage to the internal capsule. This damage requires neuroplasticity involving a number of parts of the brain to restore. One therapy that is beneficial for neuroplasticity is Mirror Therapy (MT). MT is a rehabilitation tool that aims to restore some of the pathological conditions in which the body representation is affected, including post-stroke motor impairment. Methods: This research is a quantitative pre-experimental design with the type one group pretest-postest. The research subjects were 15 post-stroke patients in residency of Semarang. Research data were collected in August-September 2020. Sample selection with purposive sampling technique who conform inclusion criteria. The Fulg-Meyer Upper Extremity Assessment (FMA-UE) as an aoutcame measure that be avowed valid and reliabel. Data analysis using Paired Sample T-Test because of normally distributed. Results: Statistically the results represent a significant difference in the UE motor ability of post-stroke patients between baseline and after mirror therapy intervention, with a mean difference (5,14) and p value = 0.000 (ρ < 0,05). Application of MT effect on upper extremity motor recovery in post-stroke patients. Conclusions: MT program is an effective intervention for UE motor recovery and motor function improvement in post- stroke patients. MT program can be used as a standardized of hand rehabilitation intervention in hospital, clinics and homes.

Abstract

Background: Inclusive education in Indonesia continues to face challenges, particularly in meeting the needs of children with special needs. Evidence indicates that difficulties in visual–motor integration (VMI), visual perception (VP), and motor coordination (MC) are closely associated with poor academic performance in reading, writing, and mathematics. Activity-based visual–motor interventions have shown promising outcomes. Objectives: Therefore, this study examines the effectiveness of the Visual Motor Ability Enhancement Program (VMAEP) in improving VMI, VP, and MC among children with special needs. Methods: This research employed a pre-experimental design with a pre test–post test approach. The study sample consisted of 20 children with special needs at Kamila GIS Lazuardi, recruited using a constitutive sampling technique. All participants received the VMAEP intervention and were assessed using the Beery VMI (Beery–Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual–Motor Integration). Measurements were conducted twice, before and after the intervention. Results: A total of 20 children aged 4–14 years participated in this study. The mean VMI score changed by 0.43, while visual perception (VP) increased by 5.78 and motor coordination (MC) improved by 3.79. All p-values were < 0.05, indicating statistically significant effects. Cohen’s d analysis demonstrated a small-to-moderate effect on VMI (0.41), a large effect on VP (1.05), and a very large effect on MC (1.59). Conclusion: The findings indicated not only significant effects of VMAEP on VMI, VP, and MC among children with special needs, but also clinically meaningful effect sizes.
