Abstract

Abstract

Social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube have become the main platforms for the promotion of e-cigarettes by influencers, which influences vaping behavior among adolescents. Positive content, such as “vape tricks” and gender-based marketing, reinforces the perception that vaping is safe and attractive. Objective: This study aims to analyze the impact of e-cigarette promotion by influencers on social media on vaping behavior among adolescents (aged 13-23 years) through a systematic review of the literature. Methods: A systematic review was conducted using databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar with keywords such as “e-cigarette promotion”. Inclusion criteria included English-language articles (2020-2025) discussing e-cigarette promotion by influencers on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube. Literature selection used the PRISMA method, resulting in 10 articles from 835 initial articles after screening for duplication and eligibility criteria. Results: E-cigarette promotion was dominated by content with “vape tricks” and gender-based marketing strategies reinforcing the normalization of vaping. TikTok increased the risk of e-cigarette use, while YouTube promoted product reviews and discounts. The lack of health narratives exacerbated adolescents' knowledge gap about the risks of vaping. Conclusion: Influencer promotion of e-cigarettes on social media increases the normalization and behavior of vaping among adolescents, driven by visual content Strict regulations and social media-based educational campaigns are needed to protect adolescents from the influence of this promotion.

Abstract

Adolescents constitute a significant population group playing a crucial role in achieving sustainable development goals, yet they are increasingly exposed to health misinformation in the digital infodemic era. This study aims to synthesize evidence on digital health literacy as a protective factor against misinformation, its relationship with preventive health behaviors, and its role as a health promotion strategy among adolescents aged 9–21. This systematic review, following the 2020 PRISMA guidelines, uses a thematic synthesis approach to 16 empirical studies (2022–2026) from 10 countries identified through primary databases using the PICO framework. Results indicate that digital health literacy improves adolescents' ability to critically evaluate online health information, thereby reducing their vulnerability to misinformation. Digital health literacy is also significantly associated with preventive behaviors such as vaccination, hand hygiene, healthy eating, and physical activity. Furthermore, interactive, co-designed digital interventions have been shown to be effective in increasing knowledge, critical skills, and engagement. These findings confirm digital health literacy as a protective and strategic determinant in improving adolescent health in the digital era.

Abstract

Introduction: The Ministry of Health's primary healthcare transformation emphasizes a promotive and preventive approach through strengthening Integrated Primary Service Posts (Posyandu) throughout the lifecycle. Posyandu cadres play a crucial role in implementing ILP, but still face competency challenges in delivering integrated services. Digital training is one innovation to efficiently increase cadre capacity. This study aims to analyze differences in Posyandu cadre competency in five Core Training Courses (MPI) before and after participating in digital training in North Lampung Regency in 2025. Methods: The study used a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design through the Plataran Sehat Learning Management System (LMS). The sample size was determined using WHO software using a two-sided hypothesis test for a population mean. Bivariate analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The analysis showed a significant difference in the competency of Posyandu cadres in all five Core Training Courses (MPI 1–MPI 5) before and after the digital training (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The digital training on Basic Skills for Posyandu Cadres effectively improved cadre competency and needs to be maintained and developed to support the transformation of primary healthcare services.
