Abstract

Dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing/English as a foreign language (EFL) di Indonesia, penggunaan bahan ajar yang otentik memiliki peran penting guna menumbuhkan minat belajar siswa. Menilik pesatnya pertumbuhan K-Pop, tidak bisa dipungkiri bahwa banyak generasi muda (termasuk pelajar) yang memiliki ketertarikan khusus terhadapnya. Allkpop merupakan salah satu situs web terbesar yang menyajikan berbagai informasi terkait dunia hiburan di Korea Selatan dalam bentuk artikel bahasa Inggris sehingga situs ini dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif sumber belajar otentik siswa. Terkait dengan hal ini, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk memberi informasi akan level keterbacaan teks-teks yang ada di Allkpop sehingga dapat memberikan acuan pada kelas berapa saja teks-teks dalam allkpop tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai sumber belajar otentik siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dimana data dianalisis dengan menggunakan bantuan 7 alat penguji keterbacaan teks. Sebanyak 90 artikel diambil sebagai sampel untuk kemudian dianalis tingkat keterbacaanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat keterbacaan teks di situs Allkpop berada di rentang medium sehingga cocok digunakan oleh siswa di kelas 7, 8, dan 9.Kata kunci: keterbacaan teks, artikel Allkpop, materi pembelajaran otentik, pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, K-Pop

Abstract

This paper investigated the topic of gender in one of the most popular works written by O. Henry, the Gift of the Magi. The text was analyzed using Halliday’s Transitivity analysis of functional grammar (Matthiessen, C Halliday, 2014).The data of the text that being analyzed were types of the processes, participant roles, and types of circumstances in the clauses. The result showed that male character is more likely to use Material processes that are assumed to have more energy than those used by the female character.Keywords: short story, transitivity analysis, gender language characteristic

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the appraising items which employed in Taman Sari tourists’ review written in Trip Advisor. It identified how the visitors expressed their feeling, attitude, and judgment towards the Taman Sari tourist attractions by applying Martin White (2005) theory, especially the attitude devices. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data used were reviews written by the tourists of Taman Sari in TripAdvisor. This study was done by separating the reviews into the one that contains appraising items of attitudes and then breaking them into clauses before they were analyzed. From the total of 56 data, it shows that there are 15 (26.79%) affect, 6 (10.71%) judgment, and 35 (62.50%) appreciation. Most of the reviews contains 50 (89.29%) positive attitudes, and only 6 (10.71%) with negative attitudes. This study asserted that the attitude device mostly used in the reviews is appreciation, especially reaction – quality since it deals with the evaluation of things which describes human feelings.
