Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the communication patterns carried out by Ammatoa to the Kajang community, as well as to know the Kamase-masea value system in maintaining the Kajang cultural value. This study uses qualitative research with a symbolic interactional approach. The author uses a purposive sampling technique to obtain informants. Data used through in-depth interviews, literature study, observation and internet searching, with data analysis techniques using the Miles & Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that Ammatoa communicates with the Kajang Dalam community face to face and without restrictions because in the area they are not permitted to use communication media, especially mass communication media. However, when Ammatoa wants to communicate with the Kajang Luar community, Ammatoa is assisted by customary stakeholders (Galla), meaning that communication takes place through intermediaries by word of mouth, in this case the communication pattern used by Ammatoa is to use circular communication patterns. While the communication process carried out by Ammatoa to the general public is to use direct communication, but usually through intermediaries for language translators for those who do not understand the Konjo language used by Ammatoa. The application of the kamase-masea value system in the Kajang culture can be seen from the simple lifestyle adopted by the Kajang Dalam community, such as not using sandals, and limiting the entry of modernization in the customary area. This can also be seen from residential areas, household appliances, and clothing used. Ammatoa and the community in the Kajang Customary Area are communities that limit the entry of all things that have the smell of technology so that the preservation of their customs is still maintained today. This can be an example for other communities so that they are also able to limit the entry of technology that can fade customs.

Abstract

This study examines communicative negotiation strategies in digital talk shows through a rhetorical communication analysis of the Mata Najwa program. In the context of contemporary digital public communication, talk shows function not only as platforms for information dissemination but also as spaces for negotiating opinions, managing public discourse, and constructing communicative legitimacy. This research aims to analyze communicative negotiation strategies, persuasive rhetoric, and communication deadlock management in digital public dialogue. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using rhetorical communication analysis on three of the most viewed episodes of Mata Najwa on YouTube, namely Eksklusif: Prabowo Subianto Bicara, 20 Tahun Timor Leste: Cerita Setelah Merdeka, and Ujian Reformasi: Perlawanan Mahasiswa (Part 1). Data were collected through digital content observation, documentation, and dialogue transcription, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model. The findings indicate that communicative negotiation in the program is reflected through issue reframing, argumentative clarification, emotional management, adaptive communication strategies, and rhetorical approaches to overcoming communication deadlocks. Furthermore, persuasive rhetoric in the program is constructed through the integration of ethos, pathos, and logos in building public credibility, emotional engagement, and argumentative legitimacy. The study concludes that the success of digital public communication is influenced not only by the ability to deliver information but also by communicative negotiation skills, rhetorical persuasion, and adaptive communication management in dynamic public discourse. This study contributes to the development of digital communication and public relations studies, particularly regarding rhetorical negotiation practices in contemporary digital talk shows.

Abstract

The case of lost tumblers that went viral at the end of November 2025 sparked public controversy after a KAI Commuter officer, Argi Budiansyah, uploaded a statement that he was fired due to the handling of reports of lost items by posting a thread on the Threads platform by the account @anitadewl which accused him of being irresponsible. The virality of the upload encouraged the formation of negative public attributions towards PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), which was perceived to have taken unilateral decisions and acted unfairly towards its employees. This research aims to analyze PT KAI's crisis communication strategy in responding to this issue using the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) framework. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, with secondary data collection through analysis of uploads and comments on Threads social media, monitoring online media reporting, and literature review. The research results show that the crisis experienced by PT KAI is categorized as a preventable cluster, where the organization is perceived as fully responsible for the crisis due to alleged procedural and internal communication failures. The crisis response strategy implemented by PT KAI includes a deny strategy through clarification of the denial of unilateral dismissal, which is then followed by a rebuild strategy through facilitation of mediation between passengers and employees until a peace agreement is reached. Even though mediation measures have proven effective in reducing the escalation of negative conversations in the short term, these findings show that reputation restoration is not immediately achieved, because attributions of public responsibility have already settled through the dynamics of perceptions on social media.

Abstract

The controversy surrounding the Four Pillars Quiz Competition (Lomba Cerdas Cermat/LCC) organized by the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) in West Kalimantan attracted public attention after participants questioned inconsistencies in the scoring process during the final round. The issue developed into public discourse on social media and raised concerns regarding the transparency of institutional communication in managing the conflict. This study aims to analyze institutional communication strategies in addressing the controversy through the perspective of Two-Way Symmetrical Communication. Using a qualitative library research approach, data were collected from scholarly articles, online news, institutional documents, and relevant literature on organizational communication, crisis communication, and Two-Way Symmetrical Communication. The findings show that the organizers demonstrated dialogue, feedback acceptance, and institutional adaptation; however, these practices remained partial. Communication adaptation became evident after the conflict escalated through evaluations, suspension of related parties, and public apologies, emphasizing the importance of responsive and dialogic communication strategies.
