Abstract

The research in the Sentani was concucted in the Yomokho site to understand the strategy of human occupation and subsistence. Reconesaince survey and excavation was adopted in this research. Focus group discussion was also adopted in this research to test the most adoptable heritage socialication for the school students. Pottery is the main artifacts found in this research. The analysis also found that the past communities in the Yomokho site lived the traditional house. The main factor to consider this site as the place to live in the past was based on the location that nearby the lake and sago forest.Penelitian di Kawasan Danau Sentani dilakukan di Situs Yomokho untuk mengetahui strategi pemilihan tempat tinggal manusia pendukung budaya Situs Yomokho, dan pola subsistensi. Untuk itu dalam penelitian ini dilakukan survei permukaan tanah dan ekskavasi. Hasil ekskavasi di Situs Yomokho diperoleh temuan berupa fragmen gerabah polos maupun hias. Berdasarkan analisis data diketahui bahwa fragmen gerabah hanya ditemukan di lapisan tanah bagian atas yang berwarna hitam. Kondisi Bukit Yomokho berupa lereng bukit yang miring. Diasumsikan manusia pendukung Situs Yomokho tinggal di rumah panggung, tidak semua bagian bukit dipilih untuk mendirikan tempat tinggal, tetapi disesuaikan dengan kondisi lereng bukit dan kondisi tanah. Pemilihan Situs Yomokho sebagai hunian masa lalu didasarkan pada lokasinya yang dekat dengan danau dan didukung oleh keberadaan hutan sagu.

Abstract

Especially prehistoric tradition of hunting and gathering tradition has continued until today in Bauzi tribe in Mamberamo Raya. This paper aims to discuss the tradition of hunting on Bauzi tribe, hunting equipment used and the strategy used in hunting. This study is descriptive and exploratory. Data collection was done of the literature study and interviews. Hunting animals is an activity undertaken Bauzi tribe throughout the year. Hunting methods used by individuals that hunt, hunt groups, and hunt groups using dogs. The strategy used in the hunt that is trapping, reconnaissance and attack suddenly, diving and attacked the crocodile in the water. Animal bone as a tool used in everyday life Bauzi tribe. ABSTRAKTradisi prasejarah terutama tradisi berburu dan meramu masih berlangsung hingga saat ini pada suku Bauzi di Mamberamo Raya. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk membahas tradisi berburu pada suku Bauzi, peralatan berburu yang digunakan dan strategi yang dipakai dalam berburu. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan bentuk penalaran induktif dan pendekatan kualitatif, serta pendekatan etnoarkeologi. Pengumpulan data yang dilakukan yaitu dengan studi kepustakaan, observasi lapangan dan wawancara. Berburu binatang merupakan aktivitas suku Bauzi yang dilakukan sepanjang tahun. Metode berburu yang digunakan yaitu berburu yang dilakukan individu, berburu kelompok, serta berburu kelompok menggunakan anjing. Strategi yang digunakan dalam berburu yaitu pemasangan perangkap, pengintaian serta penyerangan mendadak, menyelam dan menyerang buaya dalam air. Tulang binatang buruan dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan alat dalam kehidupan sehari-hari suku Bauzi.

Abstract

The pig is an integral part of the culture in the highlands of Papua. Nevertheless, to this day still happening cross of opinion among experts about when the first swine entered in Papua. This paper will discuss the beginning of pigs in Papua and Papuan cultural values associated with the presence of a pig. Data was collected with a literature study, in this paper used descriptive qualitative method. Beginning of the presence of swine in Papua brought by Austronesian speakers. Pig bones found in cave sites north coast of Papua. The presence of pigs in Papua are very influential in Papuan culture. ABSTRAKBabi merupakan bagian yang tak terpisahkan dari budaya di daerah dataran tinggi Papua. Meskipun demikian, sampai hari ini masih saja terjadi persilangan pendapat antar para ahli mengenai kapan pertama kali babi masuk di Papua. Tulisan ini akan membahas awal mula babi di Papua dan nilai-nilai budaya Papua yang terkait dengan keberadaan babi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi kepustakaan, dalam tulisan ini digunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Awal mula keberadaan babi di Papua dibawa oleh penutur Austronesia. Tulang-tulang babi ditemukan di situs-situs gua pesisir utara Papua. Keberadaan babi di Papua sangat berpengaruh pada budaya Papua.

Abstract

Jayapura on World War II or the Pacific War into direct battle between Japan and the Allies. This research aims to determine military strategy in the Pacific War in Jayapura, and to know the direct impact of the Pacific War against Jayapura and its inhabitants. The method used in this paper is the collection of data by conducting archaeological surveys in the area of Lake Sentani and Jayapura, interviews, and literature. Pacific War which caused much destruction it has also brought a constructive effect on construction activity Jayapura.AbstrakJayapura pada Perang Dunia II atau Perang Pasifik menjadi medan pertempuran langsung antara Jepang dan Sekutu. Penulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi militer dalam Perang Pasifik di Jayapura, serta mengetahui dampak langsung Perang Pasifik terhadap Jayapura dan penduduknya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan ini yaitu pengumpulan data dengan melakukan survei arkeologi di Kawasan Danau Sentani dan Kota Jayapura, wawancara dan studi pustaka. Perang Pasifik yang banyak menyebabkan kehancuran itu juga telah membawa akibat yang konstruktif terhadap aktivitas pembangunan Jayapura.

Abstract

Excavations conducted at the site Gua Karas managed to open three boxes in sector I, the box GKQI (I6) dig as deep as 150 cm, box GKQI (F5) dig as deep as 130 cm, box GKQI (F6) dig as deep as 120 cm. This excavation produced findings are quite varied material culture that fragments of ceramic, pottery fragments, metal fragments, human bones, the remains of food in the form of shells of marine molluscs, freshwater mollusc shells, bone, various types of fauna, plant seeds, and charcoal combustion. Utilization Karas cave as a place to live based on the natural resources available in the vicinity, also based on the comfort and safety Cave Karas from natural disturbances. Utilization Cave Karas intensively marked by numerous archeologicalfindings in the form of everyday equipment (artifacts) andfood waste (ekofak) in the thick cultural layers. The findings demonstrate the use of multi-function varies Cave Karas, besides shelter also serves as the burial. Man Cave Karas cultural support in the past depends on the natural resources around. Based on the findings of leftovers in the form of marine mollusc shells and fish bones, indicating human cruising supporting Karas Caves in getting food source to reach the coast. Besides supporting man cave karas also made contact with the outside, this is evidenced by the findings of fragments of iron, ceramics and pottery.

Abstract

Based on the research done, earthenware is found in Sentani Lake. The earthenware which is found in pieces, is later concluded as pot and crock after the reconstruction was made. The size of the pot is small and thin while the crock is big and thick. The function of the earthenware can be analyse from the shape and link it to the other earthenware. After analysing them, it is concluded that pot was used for cooking, while crock was used for keeping food and water.

Abstract

Holandia was once a village that when the Pacific war happened, it changed rapidly into a modern city. Hollandia was made as headquarters for the allied armed forces. Then it developed and the population increased rapidly because of urbanization that made many social problems appeared. The rapid changes in culture and custom in Hollandia were generally objected by the natives. They showed their disappointment to the Dutch and its Allies whom they thought as the causes of the fast and confusing changes.

Abstract

Cenderawasih is a bird which has the most beautiful fur in the world, which makes this bird is called as the bird of paradise. The habitat of this bird is only located in Papua. The beautiful fur attracted hunter and merchant from outside Papua to come into the island. Cenderawasih became a very important export commodity in Papua by the end of 19th century. This was the period when the market demand increased rapidly because of the fashion development that made the price of cenderawasih also increased. The presence of cenderawasih hunter from outside Papua has made many changes for the Papuan. They started to know the utensils from iron, pottery, timor fabric, the used of Malayan term and mixed marriage.
