Abstract

The aims of this study was to isolate and identify Micrococcus luteus and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria on the udder of aceh cattle. This study used Carter method which analyzed descriptively. The samples used were 10 udder of aceh cattle at UPT Hewan Coba faculty of Veterinary of Syiah Kuala University. The samples code created based on the number tag on the cattle’s ear. The sample was taken from cattle’s udder by using sterile swab cultured in nutrient broth (NB) media and incubated for 24 hours at 37 °C. Furthermore, cultured in mannitol salt agar (MSA) media and blood agar (BA) media then re-incubated for 24 hours at 37 °C. Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract of neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves on the number of spermatids and androgen receptor expression in the testicular tissue of New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits. Twelve adults male NZW rabbits with body weight (BW) 2-2.5 kg were divided into three treatment groups (n = 4), namely P1 (control group) given 0 mg/kg BW, P2 and P3 were given 200 mg/kg BW and 300 mg/kg BW of neem leaves ethanol extract respectively. The extract was administered orally using a gastric tube for 52 days. At the end of the treatment, the rabbits were terminated and the testes were collected to be processed into histological preparations and stained with Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) staining to detect the number of spermatid and Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining to detect androgen receptor expression. The results showed that neem leaves extract administered at P3 rabbits significantly decreased the number of spermatids and androgen receptor expression in myoid peritubular cells and connective tissue P0.05), but not significantly different in the Leydig cells and blood vessels (P0.05) of testicular tissue. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of neem leaves at a dose of 300 mg/kg BW can be used as a contraceptive candidate compared to a dose of 200 mg/kg BW.

Abstract

Dogs are one of the human pets that are often affected by parasitic infections, both endoparasites (helminths and protozoa) and ectoparasites (fleas, ticks, fleas, and mites). Endoparasites that are often reported are helminth cases, namely Ancylostomiasis, Toxocariasis, Dipylidiasis, Trichuriasis and Nekatoriasis. Toxocara canis is one of the most widespread public health and economically important zoonotic parasitic infections humans share with dogs. Meanwhile, the ectoparasites, especially fleas, that are often encountered are Ctenocephalides canis. The method used to detect the presence of worms is native, centrifugation, and floating feces examination and Mc Master Chamber calculation to determine the severity of the worm infection. In this case, blood tests were also carried out. Flea examination is carried out by identifying ectoparasite wet preparations. The results of a floating stool examination revealed Toxocara canis worm eggs. The ectoparasite obtained after laboratory examination was the flea Ctenocephalides canis. The treatment used to treat helminth disease is by administering worm medicine, while for flea disease it can be done by anti-flea injection. Prevention can be done by administering worm medicine regularly and keeping the dog's cage and environment clean.

Abstract

Pyometra is one of the important causes of infertility in female animals, including dogs. Pyometra is accumulation of pus in the uterus caused by bacteria that are normally in the uterus but in certain circumstances become pathogens due to hormonal influences. This case report aims to determine the etiology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of pyometra disease in dogs. The examination method that is carried out is physical examination and investigations, hematology, blood chemistry, and ultrasound. Based on a physical examination in the form of inspection of the lesions on the vulva and abdominal enlargement. Palpation of the mesogastrium and hypogastrium is the presence of abdominal tension. Hematologic results show leukocytosis, neutrophilia, and hyperchromic normocytic anemia. Blood chemistry examination results showed azotemia, increased AST, ALP and GGT. Ultrasound examination results show that an anechoic period is accumulation of uterine fluid and thickening of the uterine wall. The diagnosis of this case is pyometra. The therapy performed is ovariohisterectomy surgery. After surgery animals were given medicines including Cephalexine, Meloxicam, Ursodeoxycholic acid, and S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe). On the sixth day the animal surgery post improves again and is allowed to be taken home.

Abstract

Demodecosis, also known as Red Mange, Acarus Mange, and Follicular Mange, is a skin disease caused by the mite Demodex canis. Demodecosis infection can occur in dogs of all ages. This study aims to diagnose and treat the infection of Demodex sp in chow-chow dogs. Clinical signs include generalized alopecia, scales, and crusts found on the body's surface, followed by dehydration symptoms, poor skin turgor, and long CRT. Supporting examinations to determine demodecosis infection are carried out using the deep skin scrapping test method. Next, a hematological exam was carried out. The hematology examination interpreted the blood analysis results to indicate that the dog had normochromic microcytic anemia. A decrease in RBC, hemoglobin, and hematocrit indicates anemia. A low MCV indicates Microcytic, and normochromic is due to a normal MCHC. Treatment is carried out by administering ivermectin, diphenhydramine HCl, and longamox.

Abstract

The eye is an essential organ for living things, as one of the five senses of the eye is very vulnerable to infectious or non-infectious diseases. The orbital tumor is one of the disorders in the cat's eye that can attack the eye muscles, nerves, and lacrimal glands. This study aims to diagnose and treat the enucleation of bulbus oculi in domestic cats and patients with orbital tumors. This activity was carried out at the Veterinary Practice "Drh. Juliadi Ramadhan, M.Si." Jl. Payakumbuh-Lintau No. 12 Regency 50 City, West Sumatra Province. The results showed that one of the treatments for orbital tumor cases can be done by enucleation of the oculi bulk. This operation uses a subconjunctival method to remove the eye, the nictitating membrane, and a little eyelid by minimizing the removal of extraocular muscle tissue. After surgery, intense treatment is carried out by maintaining the sanitation of the cage and administering anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, and vitamins.
