Abstract

The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey Report issued by the Ministry of Health revealed that there was an increase in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in the population aged over 15 years based on the results of blood sugar level measurements. In the 2018 Basic Health Research, it was recorded that the prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia reached 10.9%. Now, the prevalence has reached 11.7% in 2023. The Aceh Health Office recorded that sufferers of Diabetes Mellitus until early 2023 reached 154,889 cases. The purpose of this study is to find out the difference in blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus who consume rice after cooking with the rice cooker method and with the steaming method. This quantitative analytical research uses a cross-sectional study design. The population of the study was all people with diabetes mellitus at the Calang Health Center, Aceh Jaya Regency, totaling 50 people. Data collection was carried out from January 15 to March 15, 2024 using nonprobability sampling techniques. This study also took direct data by looking at the sugar content of the respondents by eating rice cooked by the rice cooker method and 1 month later by measuring the sugar content of the respondents consuming rice by cooking the rice by steaming. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate and multivariate statistical tests. The results of the study showed that factors related to blood sugar levels in DM patients were gender, age, education, occupation, income, physical activity, nutritional status, smoking behavior, and family history of diabetes. The factors most related to increased blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus patients were steaming with OR=7.47, use of a rice cooker of 11.2 and family history of diabetes mellitus of 7.50. It is expected that respondents will control their blood sugar levels, so that DM sufferers and their families will cook rice using the steaming method, and control other risk factors that can cause high blood sugar levels.

Abstract

The use of digital electronic devices is increasingly widespread among students, both in academic and non-academic contexts, but this can have negative impacts such as Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). This study aims to analyze the comparative risk factors for CVS in digital-based elementary school students in Banda Aceh City and conventional-based students in Aceh Besar Regency. The study used a cross-sectional design with a total of 64 respondents using Simple Random Sampling technique, consisting of 32 students from each school. Data were collected between 15–30 August. The analysis was carried out using the Mann-Whitney U test, Independent Sample t-test, and logistic regression. The results showed a higher prevalence of CVS in digital-based students (75%) than in conventional. The average time of using electronic devices in the digital group was 8 hours/day, higher than the conventional group (5 hours/day). There was a significant difference in the duration of electronic device use between the two groups (p=0.0001). The most dominant factor associated with CVS was the duration of digital electronic device use in a day (OR=2.05; 95% CI=1.41–2.99; p=0.0001). This study emphasizes the importance of regulating the time of digital device use in children.

Abstract

Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the infectious diseases that often becomes a problem and the leading cause of death in the world. Improving the quality of life of TB patients is something that needs to be developed. Because quality of life is essential to support human life. To achieve a good quality of life, it is necessary to know more precisely the determinants of the quality of life of TB patients. This study aims to determine the determinants of the quality of life in TB patients in Banda Aceh City. This study is descriptive and analytical with a cross-sectional study design. The population is all TB patients in 4 working areas of the Health Center in Banda Aceh City. A sample of 57 people was taken using the total sampling technique. Data was collected in July 2023 by interviewing using a questionnaire—data analysis using logistic regression. The study showed that 30 of 57 TB patients (58.82%) had a good quality of life. Factors related to the quality of life of pulmonary TB patients are age (OR=1.08; 95%CI=1.75-71.64; p=0.002), income (OR=16.50; 95%CI=3.81-71.46; p=0.0001), duration of treatment (OR=31.90; 95%CI=3.64-279.29; p=0.002), family support (OR=38.00; 95%CI=6.87-120.05; p=0.0001), health literacy (OR=20.80; 95%CI=4.86-89.10; p=0.0001), and religious coping (OR=30.00; 95%CI=6.34-141.95; p=0.0001).

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that by 2025, approximately 29% of the global population will experience hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension in Aceh Province has increased by 21.5%. The Aceh Jaya District Health Office reported significant fluctuations in hypertension incidence at Krueng Sabee Community Health Center (Puskesmas), an area characterized by limited accessibility to health facilities due to varied topography, including highland, midland, and lowland regions. This study aimed to analyze the treatment-seeking patterns for hypertension and healthcare accessibility in the area, based on a population of 2,759 hypertensive patients registered at Krueng Sabee Puskesmas. Using a cross-sectional observational design, 335 respondents were selected through proportional random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using chi-square tests and spatial analysis. The results demonstrated significant associations between treatment-seeking patterns and factors such as age, hypertension status, education, occupation, income, and ease of transportation and information, while gender and distance showed no significant relationship. Among these factors, ease of transportation (OR = 12.591) was the most influential determinant of treatment-seeking behavior. Spatial analysis indicated that the distribution of health facilities was random (T = 1.212, p = 0.089). This study concludes that demographic and socioeconomic factors, along with transportation accessibility, significantly affect hypertension treatment-seeking patterns, whereas gender and distance do not. The random spatial distribution of health facilities suggests potential barriers to healthcare access in this region.
