Abstract

This study describes the improvement of narrative text reading skills using folklore. The method used is a systematic literature review (SLR). This article provides a systematic review of journals discussing folklore in reading narrative texts. Search using Google Scholar, Science Direct.com, and JSTOR for ten years (2011-2021). After being selected, observation found ten articles to be eligible for analysis. The results showed that folklore could significantly improve students' ability to read narrative texts.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan keterampilan membaca teks narasi dengan menggunakan cerita rakyat. Metode yang digunakan adalah systematic literature review (SLR). Artikel ini memberikan tinjauan sistematis terhadap jurnal yang membahas penggunaan cerita rakyat dalam membaca teks naratif. Pencarian menggunakan Google Scholar, Science Direct.com, dan JSTOR selama sepuluh tahun (2011-2021). Setelah diseleksi, sepuluh artikel yang ditemukan memenuhi syarat untuk dianalisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan cerita rakyat secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks naratif.

Abstract

Representing social environment especially in traditional dance called Wadian Dadas. The ecolinguistics study in Dayak Ma’anyan tribe: Wadian Dadas, East Barito, Central Kalimantan Province has been conducted during April 2021. The objective of the study is to analyze and compare to the present life in Indonesian culture in general. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was carried out using in-depth interview, direct observation, and literature study. The results showed that Wadian Dadas at the beginning of its appearance as a dance that functions as a ceremony that heals the sick and relieving difficulties. Because of modernity era, this dance changed the function to a preserved dance, and is categorized as a cultural dance. Which usually appears at weddings or other celebratory events. However, this is still inseparable from the mystical things contained in the dance such as the same movements, the use of clothes and paintings on the dancers' bodies that are typical of the Ma'anyan Dayak tribe.The result of this research can be used for English language learning, for example in write Descriptive Text.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the use of social media especially YouTube by students the Non-English Major of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Palangka Raya. It was also to see the impact of using social media especially YouTube to improve their speaking ability. The study design of this study was descriptive qualitative. Fifteen students of the Faculty of Economics were selected as participants to speak in front of a handphone camera with the topics already prepared. Five online meetings were done to know their progress. The Semi-structured interview was also done to collect the supporting data of deeper information needed. The result showed that the use of social media especially YouTube gave a high impact on the speaking ability of Non-English Major students as seen from their video and deep information from the interview. However, there was various resistance dealing with the efforts to increase their speaking ability, they are psychological factors (lessmotivated, not confident),environment factor (the relationship with their environment), linguistic factors (finding references, vocabulary selection, speaking style, and gesture). The use of social media especially YouTube might make the students feel easier in overcoming the various resistance to improve speaking ability.
