Abstract

This study analyzes the errors in the usage of the simple past tense formula by 20 students enrolled in the Basic English course in the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, Bina Sarana Informatika University. The research data were collected from the students' exercise answers to evaluate their understanding of the formula. The research method employed was qualitative descriptive. The results of the study indicate a common error frequently encountered, which is the misuse of sentence elements that do not correspond to the simple past tense formula. This error is attributed to the students' negligence, lack of precision in completing assignments, and the mixing of formulations with other tenses. Data were collected through direct observation of the students. The aim of this research is to gain a better understanding of the common errors in using the simple past tense formula, particularly in the context of teaching basic English at the university level.

Abstract

This study investigated the misapplication of the simple past tense formula by 43 students who attended the Basic English course at the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, Bina Sarana Informatics University. The research data was obtained from the analysis of participants' recount text writing exercises to evaluate their ability to understand the formula. The research method applied is qualitative descriptive. Research findings show one common mistake that often arises, namely in the use of sentence elements that do not conform to the simple past tense formula. The error comes from students' negligence and lack of accuracy when completing assignments, as well as the tendency to mix past tense formulas with other tenses. Data collection is carried out through direct observation of student activities. The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of common mistakes in the application of simple past tense formulas, especially in the context of teaching basic English in a university environment.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of video assignments as a tool for learning English, particularly in the English for Business course. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research focuses on the experiences and perceptions of 20 management students from Universitas BSI who completed video assignments on sales and marketing topics. The findings reveal that video assignments significantly enhance students' language skills and confidence. Students faced various challenges, including technical issues and language barriers, but these were overcome through practice and resource utilization. The study highlights the importance of guidance and feedback from lecturers to support students in overcoming these challenges. Overall, video assignments are deemed an effective method for improving students' English language skills.
