Abstract

Siak River is the most polluted river in Riau, however, many types of fish, including Pangasius polyuranodon living in that river. As the water is polluted the health of the fish in general, including its gill structure might be harmed. A study aims to understand the histological structure of the gill of fish from upstream and downstream of the Siak River has been conducted in May 2015. Abnormality in the gill was noted and the abnormality level was identified using a Histopathological Alteration Index (HAI). Results shown that the types of abnormality present were hyperplasia, hypertrophy, atrophy and deformated lamella. The HAI level was 2.67-2.75, indicates that the gill of the P. polyuranodon from the Siak River was normal.Keyword: Siak River, Histopathological Alteration Index , gill structure, Pangasius polyuranodon

Abstract

Osteochilus wandersii or lelan fiah is freshwater fish that inhabit the Rokan Kiri River. This fish has high economical value, around Rp 30.000-50.000/Kg. Information on biological aspects of this fish, including the morphometric and meristic, however, is rare. To understand the morphometrical, meristical characteristics and growth pattern of this fish, a research had been conducted from November to December 2014. There were 116 fishes (66-185 mm SL and 5.39-143.13 gr BW) captured from the Rokan Kiri River. There were 26 morphological characteristics measured and 10 meristical characteristics counted. Results shown that all of morphometrical characteristics were almost isometric as the fish growing. The meristical characteristic of the fish were as follow: D.2.101/2-121/2; P.1.14-15; V.1.8; A.1.41/2; C.2.17, the number of scale in the pre-dorsal fin was 10-11, lateral line scale was 33-36, around the body was 27-29 and around the caudal peduncle was 14-16. The Lenght-weight relationship shown that the growth of male and female fish was isometric (b = 3.09). The water quality parameter shown that temperature 25-28 °C, transparency 12-40 cm, pH 6, DO 4.7-6.48 mg/l, CO2 17.97-27.96 mg/l, and current speed 0.327-0.625 m/s. Data on water quality parameters indicate that water quality in the Rokan Kiri River is able to support the life of the lelan fish. Keywords : Osteochilus wandersii, Rokan Kiri River, morphometric, meristic, growth patterns

Abstract

Streams, dam and pool around the University of Riau is inhabited by many types of aquatic organisms, including freshwater loster (Cherax quadricarinatus). Freshwater lobster (Cherax quadricarinatus) is an alien species originated from Austalia. So far, the information obtained is only limited to type identification, while other information on the lobster is not yet known. To understand the feeding habit of freshwater lobster in the aquatic ecosystem, a research has been conducted in December-January 2017. There were three sampling areas, namely an earthen pool around the Rektorat Building (Station 1), the dam (Station 2) and the stream in the back of Marine Science Building (Station 3). Samplings were conducted everyday for a one month period. Lobster was captured using a scoop net and pit traps. Stomach content analysis was performed in the laboratory. Total number of lobster sampled was 40. Results shown that the main food of the lobster is detritus (IP>40%), the complementary food is fish remains, plant and phytoplankton (IP 4-40%).Keyword : Cherax quadricarinatus, Lobster, Index of preponderance, Stream, dam

Abstract

A study on the diversity of phytoplankton in the Solok Pulau Lake was conducted fromOctober–December 2015. This research aims to understand the diversity and abundance ofplankton in that area. There were three stations with 3 sampling points in each station. Sampleswere taken 3 times, once a week and they were analyzed in the Aquatic Productivity Laboratoryoh the Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty, Riau University.Result shown that the phytoplankton obtained were consist of 22 species, they werebelonged to of 6 classes, Bacillariophyceae (4 species), Chlorophyceae (10 species),Cyanophyceae (3 species), Dinophyceae (1 species), Euglenophyceae (3 species) danXantophyceae (1 species). The average of phytoplankton abundance was around 553 – 17.778cells/l. The most common phytoplankton was Isthmia sp. (28.978 cells/L, Bacillariophyceae).Diversity index (H’) was 2.47 – 3. 54 and dominancy index (C) was 0.11 – 0.21. General waterquality parameters are as follow: temperature: 28 – 30 °C, pH: 6, brightness: 38 – 70.5 cm, DO:6.7 – 7.6 mg/L, CO2: 9.8 – 12.7 mg/L, Nitrate: 0.02 – 0.04 mg/L and phosphate: 0.09 – 0.018mg/L. Based on phytoplankton abundance, the Solok Pulau Lake can be categorized asoligotrophic lake. Keywords : Phytoplankton Diversity, Bacillariophyceae, Solok Pulau Lake

Abstract

Tangun River is one of the Kampar Kanan River tributaries. During the rainy season, however, the water level of the Kampar River increase, flow to the Tangun River and enable fish to enter that river. As the information of fish present in that fish is rare, a study aims to inventarize and identify fish that inhabit that river was conducted in Februari-April 2016. Samplings were conducted weekly and the captured fishes were then identified based on Kottelat et al (1993) dan (2013). There were 707 fish sampled and they were belonged to 17 species (6 Ordos, 13 Families). The common fish in the river were Esomus metallicus, Pterygoplichthys pardalis, Poecilia reticula, and Trichogaster trichopterus, while the rare fishes were Trichopsis vittata, Ompok hypophthalmus and Helostoma temminckii.Keyword: Inventarisation , identification, Tangun River, Pekanbaru, Riau
