Abstract

The estimators discussed in this paper are the ratio exponential estimator, the product exponential estimator and the combination of ratio exponential estimator and product exponential estimator on systematic random sampling, which is a review and an expansion correction from the article of Singh, et. al. [Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods, 10: 424-435]. Each estimator is a biased estimator and the mean square errors are determined. Estimator with the smallest mean square error is the most efficient estimator. An example is given at the end of the discussion.

Abstract

Partial differential equations can be clasified into parabolic , elliptic, and hyperbolic equations. In this article, we discuss the correspondence between parabolic and elliptic equations of the heat equation as seen from the heat flow. Suppose u states thetemperature on the object. If the two-dimensional heat equation is not affected by the times, the heat flow in steady state and parabolic equations become elliptic equations. To solve the heat equation, we can be used with the finite difference method and thealternating direction implicit.

Abstract

This paper discusses the improvement of closed Newton-Cotes quadrature rules. The idea is based on deriving weights of closed Newton-Cotes quadrature rules having the same length of intervals using degree of accuracy. By including the lower limit of the integral and the width of the interval as the two new additional variables,we obtain weights, the lower limit and the width of the interval used to form the improvement of closed Newton-Cotes quadrature rules. Computational tests using examples show that the accuracy of improvement formula is better than closed Newton-Cotes quadrature rules.

Abstract

In this article discusses the modification of Halley’s method to solve nonlinear equa-tions having multiple roots. The method is obtained using improvements of the Osada’s method and Euler-Chebyshev’s method. Analytically , we show that this iterative method have third order for a multiple roots. Furthermore, numerical ex-periments show that, the modification of Halley method is superior to Newton’smethod for multiple roots.

Abstract

This article discusses three chain estimators for population mean using double sampling, which is a review article from Choudhury and Singh [Statistics In Transition-new series 2012: 519-536]. The three estimators are biased estimators, then their mean square errors are determined. Furthermore, the mean square errors are compared to the mean square error of each estimator. This comparison shows that the estimator having thesmallest mean square error is the most efficient estimator.

Abstract

The estimators studied here are three ratio estimators for population variance in simple random sampling without replacement using sampling fraction. This study is a review of article written by Tailor and Sharma [Statistics in Transition-new series 13 (2012): 37-46]. All estimators are biased, then their mean square error (MSE) of the studied estimators are compared to obtain the most efficient estimator. An example is given to explain the studied problem.

Abstract

This article discusses the preconditioner for solving the linear system Ax = b, where A is of the form M-matrix, which is a review of the Zhuan-De Wang and Ting-Zhu Huang paper [Applied Mathematics Letters, 19 : 1029 − 1036 (2006)]. Numericalexperiments using some sizes of A show that the convergence rate of Jacobi and Gauss Seidel type methods can be increased using the preconditioner.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the best soaking time for areca seed in young coconut water to improve its germination. This research was carried out in Jalan Limbungan, Limbungan village Rumbai district, Pekanbaru city. This research started from early March to end of May 2005. The method esed in this research was non factorial of completely randomized design with 3 replications. Parameters in this research were the time germination, germination ability, speed of germination, plumulae length, root length, and dry weight of seed. The seed soaking treatments significantly affected all germination parameters except the root length and the best treatment for araca seed is A4 (24 hours of soaking).
