Abstract

In this 21st century era, English teachers must have good knowledge of English as well as the skills of using various technology in order to make their teaching-learning process go smoothly. Nowadays, technology is like the primary need in every sector, especially in education sector. English lecturers should be able to adapt with the changes of teaching environment since the use of computers, laptops and other tools are becoming the big necessity in our daily life. There are three things that must be considered; technology, pedagogy and content knowledge. By understanding them, the teaching-learning process will become perfect. This article aims to find the perceptions of TPACK how it helps English lecturers achieve their goals. The data were taken from 3 English language lecturers of three different departments as the respondents. This mini research used descriptive quantitative in which the data were collected through observation and were analysed with data reduction, interpretation, and description. The findings shows that the score for content knowledge (CK) for all teachers ranges 78%-80 %, pedagogical knowledge (PK) ranges 55%-65%, technological knowledge (TK) ranges 60%-75%. Meanwhile score for Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) ranges 77%-82%, Technological Pedagogical Knowledge ranges (TPK) 60%-67%, TPACK 72%-75%. These imply that lecturers of polytechnics are good and skilful to integrate the technology with pedagogic and content knowledge.

Abstract

A myriad research has demonstrated the use of digital tool as an approach to teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL), but little research on this topic of interest has been undertaken in the Indonesian secondary school and higher education context. Particularly, the use of digital tool as practicing and examining students’ writing remains under-explored in this educational setting. With these in mind, this research presents an empirical study that looks into to what extent the deployment of a digital tool mediates multimodal learning tasks in the EAL classroom. The study specifically examines challenges and benefits of using the digital tool “write to learn” to develop students’ writing and reading competences. The study also looks at the roles of teacher and students in the entire learning process. A total of 80 polytechnic students volunteered to participate the study. Individually, they were assigned to perform a series of tasks, including (1) connecting to “write to learn” website, (2) reading articles and instruction in, and (3) writing essays. Empirical data were garnered from postings, students’ writing and students’ interviews. Drawing on these data, the present chapter reports on four major findings, that is: (1) drafting and negotiating strategies for writing essay creation, (2) framing the use of language in composing, (3) discussing the result essay creation and improvement, and (4) positioning roles of teachers and students in the entire learning process.

Abstract

Nowadays, English teachers must be creative to engage students to be more active and critical. Along with technology development, teachers are at ease with their jobs. This mini research aims to make a teaching-learning model of English subject for Specific Purposes (ESP) based on a project (PjBL) for being used in some departments of engineering at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ), namely: Civil Engineering Department, Electrical and Electronic Department, IT Engineering Department and Mechanical Department. Such a model has not been made yet before. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The data was taken from the questionnaires and interviews. The data was analyzed and the design of PjBL and a job sheet as well were made.  The outcome of this research is a kind of teaching-learning model design which will hopefully be going be used as a standard for English teachers of engineering for ESP teachers at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta.

Abstract

Pandemi virus Corona tidak hanya berdampak pada masalah kesehatan, virus yang dikenal sebagai Covid-19 ini telah menimbulkan masalah di sektor lainnya seperti sektor ekonomi. Tidak hanya industri besar, pandemi virus Corona telah membuat pelaku UMKM di Indonesia mulai menurun.. Di desa Tegal ini, usaha bakso yang diolah dengan peralatan yang sudah mengenal teknologi, meskipun masih sederhana, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan produktivitas, sehingga akan menaikkan pendapatan. Usaha bakso ini sangat diminati warga desa Tegal, namun dengan keterbatasan keterampilan, modal, dan keahlian lainnya, maka melalui kegiatan pelatihan, pendampingan pembuatan bakso, pengemasan, pemasaran secara online, dan pembukuan usaha diharapkan dapat meningkatkan ekonomi masayarakat di masa pendemi covid19 ini. Metode dilakukan pelatihan dan praktik oleh ahli dan berpengalaman, yang diikuti oleh warga desa Tegal yang berminat menjadi penghasil dan penjual bakso. Hasilnya mereka dapat berwirausaha berjualan bakso, baik secara matang dan frozen di masa pandemi covid19 ini. Dengan demikian penjadi peluang usaha bagi warga meskipun kondisi pandemi covid 19, sekaligus sebagai bentuk peluang dalam peningkatan pendapatan dan kesempatan untuk berusaha.
