Abstract

The research was conducted to study the growth model of Siganus canaliculatus which was based on body length parameters. The research was done through survey which was initiated by measuring the body length of n fish samples drawn from N fish population. The size of fish population (N) was based on the fish basket times the number of fish in each basket for every landing catch. The number of fish sample required was based on variability of catch yield for each catching period. Data collected was analysed on the basis of functional relationship between fish fork length (FL) and body weight (W) following the non linear mathematical equation W (i) = qFL(i)b. A model simulation was then performed using the techniques of data interpolation and extrapolation. The regression coefficient value for the relationship of the two parameters was 2.4. indicated that the growth model of the Siganus canaliculatus was allometric. Key words: Allometric, extrapolation, interpolation, model, siganus canaliculatus, simulation.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the effect of stocking density, feed type and feeding time on the growth and survival rate of juvenile whiteleg prawn (Penaeus vannamei) cultured in an extensive pond. A completely randomized design (CRD) was applied to a split-split plot design with three factor (stocking density as primary factor, feed type as sub-factor, and feeding time as sub-sub factor), giving 8 treatment combinations with 3 replicates (24 experimental units). Analysis of variance did not indicate any significant interaction between the effects of treatments on whiteleg prawn growth of any two or three factors (P > 0.05). Both stocking density (5 or 10 prawns/m3) and feed type (snails or corn) had a significant effect (P <0.05) on growth, while the effect of feeding time (day or night) was not significant (P > 0.05). Absolute growth of juvenile whiteleg prawn ranged from 2.16 to 7.03 g/prawn with a survival rate range of 60-100%.Keyword: whiteleg prawn, stocking density, feed type and feeding time.

Abstract

The need better understand the linkages and interdependencies of socio-economic and coastal environmental dynamics has taken on a more deliberate role in the development and assessment of Integrated Coastal Management on Batudaka islands. The DPSIR (drivers- pressures - states - impacts - responses) framework was used in scoping biodiversity management issues and problems. DPSIR model is to analyze the causative factors of pressure on the ecosystem of small islands and recommendations for environmental restoration effort. Results of the study showed that population and economic (tourism and fisheries demand) driving forces causing ecosystem vulnerable.  Land conversions, domestic waste, other pollutant was pressured this area, while increasing driving forces. The State environmental as waters quality is still relative well for tourisms and fisheries activity, physical impact as abrasion and sedimentation, habitat loss and biodiversity changes at 2000 until 2010 year at Batudaka Islands increase life coral and mangrove, decrease seagrass. Impact to environment  i.e. water abstraction,  sediment water fluxes across  coastal zones, change of habitats and biological diversity can be caused decreasing of coastal ecosystem. Functional diversity can be defined as a variety of different responses to environmental change, in particular the variety of spatial and temporal scales with which organisms reach to each other and to the environment. Abstract

Periodic monitoring of the population is needed to see the effectiveness and success of interventions to maintain the BCF population in their habitat. This research was conducted in Kilometer Lima Waters, Luwuk Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi Province from November to December 2021. Research stations were determined based on information on the distribution and presence of BCF using a belt transect. The observed data were then processed to determine the total individual and BCF density per transect. BCF density per observation point (transect) was calculated by calculating the average fish density from the fish density value of each transect. The total observations of Banggai Cardinalfish individuals observed at the study site were 1,232 individuals. While the density ranges from 0.49 ind/m-5.55 ind/m. The lowest density was observed on transect V (five) while the highest density was observed on transect II (two).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the growth of E. cottonii seaweed at different initial weights and spacings that were cultivated off the bottom of the waters. Seaweed seedlings of E. cottonii were reared for 42 days. This study used a RAL with a factorial pattern which consisted of 2 factors, namely factor J (planting distance) and factor B (seed weight). Factor J consisted of 3 levels (20 cm, 30 cm and 40 cm) and factor B consisted of 3 levels (50 g, 75 g and 100 g), so that 27 experimental units were obtained. The data were analyzed for variance before being tested for the fulfillment of the basic assumptions of analysis of variance, namely the Kolmogorov-Smirnov data distribution test, the Bartlett treatment similarity test and the Tukey Method model additiveness test using excel and Minitab 16 application programs. The results showed that the difference in plant spacing had no effect (P>0.05) on the absolute perturbation weight. The highest treatment combination was found in the combination of 30 cm spacing with an initial weight of 50 g (J2B3) and the lowest was in the combination of 30 cm spacing with an initial weight of 100 g (J2B1). Differences in initial weight (50, 75 and 100 g) had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on absolute weight growth. The higher the initial weight used, the absolute weight growth of E. cottonii increased with an increase in average weight ranging from 260.34 to 435.92 grams.

Abstract

The striped snakehead (Channa striata Bloch, 1793) is a freshwater fish which has long been popular as a food fish. Commonly found in freshwater bodies such as rivers, swamps and lakes, striped snakeheads have a high albumin protein content which can help to accelerate wound healing, facilitate the circulation of body fluids and maintain osmotic pressure in the body. Salinity is one of the limiting factors that can affect fish growth and survival. Changes in salinity could directly affect striped snakehead growth and metabolism. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different salinity treatments on the growth and albumin content of juvenile striped snakeheads. The research was conducted in November-December 2021 at the Water Quality and Aquatic Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Tadulako University, Indonesia. The study applied 5 salinity treatments (2 ppt, 4 ppt, 6 ppt, 8 ppt and 10 ppt) with 8 replicates for 30 days. Net weight gain, specific growth rate (weight and length) and survival rate did not differ significantly between treatments (ANOVA, P>0.05). The Tukey post-hoc test indicated significantly higher growth under the 8 ppt salinity treatment (1.04±0,19 cm) with 100% survival rate. Albumin content increased linearly with salinity from 2 ppt (3.6-4.0%) to 10 ppt (4.9-5.3 %).
