Abstract

Land is limited and non-renewable resource, on the other hand, people who need the land for development grow quickly. This paper discuss about the evaluation of land resource for plantation estate development planning in Banyuwangi District. General information regarding to physical environment are presented in order to know an overview of the study area. The Methodology of land suitability classifi cation corresponding to the selected plantation crops are briefl y explained, then, the results of the study are discussed. The study area consist of 9 physiographic spread from the fl at slope near the cost and verysteep slope near the mountain. Based on the land physical evaluation shows that the parent materials of the land are dominated by volcanic and lime stone. The results of the suitability classifi cation indicate that coconut crop could grow well in most of the plain up to undulating area. The land which suitable for coffee, clove and Vanilla cultivation are very small compared to the total of the study area and they are mostly located in the middle of the study area. Limiting factors of land suitability are mainly very diffi cult to upgrade, such us steep slope, soil effective depth, soil porosity, and drainage. In general, Banyuwangi District has a high potency of land for plantation estate extension. Keywords: land suitability, plantation estate, GIS, agriculture

Abstract

Landslide is the main natural disaster in the study area of North Sumedang and South Sumedang sub-districts. The spatial distribution of landslide hazard and risk are not available yet that important for decision making. The aim of research is to providegeographic information system technology for developing a model for landslide hazard mitigation. The results show that a part of the area in the North Sumedang and South Sumedang subdistrict has moderate class covering 8.460,41 Ha (65,5%) and high landslide hazard is covering 2.798,44 Ha (21,67%), low landslide hazard zone = 1.570,25 Ha (12,16%) and very low landslide hazard 85,69 Ha (0,66%). By combining landslide hazard and property value, a prediction of landslide risk was produced. Despite the majority of the area has low risk class (9.564,16 Ha/74,07%), but the highrisk area occurred in minimal places (86,44 Ha/0,67%). This phenomena showed that area with high potential level of landslide hazard is not always having a high value of risk. Since the risk calculation is determined by properties value such as:infrastructure, road network and land use. While the landslide hazardous level is determined by natural factors such as : slope, soil type, geology and land use.

Abstract

Applied Study on Agricultural Production estimate and Forecast by using Area Frame Sampling in Indramayu and Subang Districts is based on the successfulness of ‘Area Frame Design’ development for the whole Java Island. A brief explanation of design ispresented to refresh its basic idea. The methodology of the study is discussed and the mathematical formulation to estimate rice refers to direct expansion approach is presented. The main aim of the study is to prove that area frame sampling is reliableto implement for rice production estimate and forecast. For that purpose, sample segments were extracted and inside the segment crop cutting was conducted. Three times ground survey were conducted to map rice growing stage and crop cutting. Theanalysis of ground data for both yield and harvest area was done then production estimate was derived. Furthermore, harvest area forcast for next three months after survey-1 was also conducted. Regarding to the man power capability and the results in both districts, it is considered that area frame sampling is feasible to implement indistrict level.

Abstract

The drawback of the existing national agricultural statistics system is that the acquisition of data has not been based on scientific approaches, so it results in bias of data. The aim of this paper is to introduce a new method for estimating rice area called ‘Area Frame Sampling’ based on points observation. The method employs not only statistics but also GIS, remote sensing, and information technology. Field survey to the sample points is aiming to observe and record the growth phase of rice. Data communication from field level to central level by SMS gateway is involved in supporting timely generation of reliable information on the crop area. The analysis of rice area refers to the extrapolation from sample to population, then, the estimation of rice production is a multiplication of rice harvest area and productivity derived from samples of crop cutting. Since we know both the period of growth phase and growth cycle of rice we can predict when the rice would be harvested. Each time the field survey is conducted then the acreage of each rice growth phase including harvest area can be derived. The analysis of rice area refers to the extrapolation from sample to population. Then the estimation of rice production is the multiplication of rice harvest area and productivity derived from samples of crop cutting. The accuracy of rice area estimate is good; it is indicated by the value of the coefficient of variation, namely <5 percent. It is concluded that area frame sampling approach for rice statistics can be implemented successfully and can be developed for other food crop statistics.
