Abstract

A research on the effect of amino acids, glycine and hystidine, on the selectivity of Coated Wire Electrode (EKT)-glutamate has been conducted. Membrane consisted of 0.1 M pyrrole; 0.1 M glutamic acid and 0.1 M HClO4. Analysis of the electrode performance was conducted by looking at the Nernstian factor, detection limit, and solution pH. The effect of amino  acids,  glycine  and hystidine,  on measurement  of glutamic  acid can be  studied  by calculating its selectivity coefficient. Results showed that the electrode gave response of the Nernstian value of 30.24 mV/decade in the concentration range of 10-8  – 10-1  M, detection limit of 2.735 x 10-8  M and pH of 3. Amino acids, glycine and hystidine did not affect the performance of EKT-glutamate with the selectivity coefficient of less than 1.Keywords: Coated Wire Electrode (EKT)-glutamate, Nernstian, selectivity

Abstract

The 4-hydroxycinnamamide  is a compound  that has been isolated from the root bark of Kleinhovia hospita Linn. The compound show high toxicity to Artemia salina Leach (IC 180,53 µg) so it can be expected has cytostatic activity against P388 leukemic cells. However, the concentration of the compound in the root bark of K. hospita Linn is very low (about 1.6 ppm), and commercially the compound  is  not  ready  and  has  never  been  synthesized.  Therefore,  it  is  important  to  find  out  a synthesis method to used in prepare the compound for further examination, in particular its cytostatic activity. By this research, the 4-hydroxycinnamamide compound has been prepared from 4- hydroxycinnamic  acid  via  esterification  reaction  with  excess  ethanol  and  sulphate  acid  catalyst followed  ammonolysis  reaction  with concentrated  ammonia.  The esterification  stage  gave  ethyl 4-hidroxycinnamate   as  white  crystall  with  melting  point  133-134oC   and  34.9%  yield,  and  the ammonolysis stage gave 4-hydroxycinnamamide as white crystall with merting point 140oC and 46.1% yield. Identification of the reaction product was carried out by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy methods.Keywords: 4-hydroxycinnamamide, 4-hydroxycinnamic acid, esterification, ammonolysis

Abstract

Maros Regency is a crossing area to the city of Makassar. So, transportation facilities to support mobility and community activities in several places to the city of Makassar must go through the town of Maros. Therefore, the number of vehicles that pass through the city of Maros will continue to increase from year to year, which will cause pollution or air pollution for the environment. To achieve beautiful environmental conditions, especially at the location of Senior High School 1 Maros, it is necessary to hold community service by introducing, applying, and utilizing the PEM-9004 tool on motorized vehicles, especially vehicles belonging to students at Senior High School 1 Maros. The test results show that the emission levels of carbon monoxide (CO) gas from students' vehicles are 1.791%, the levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and nitrogen monoxide (NO) are seven ppm each, and the gas temperature is 45°C with a test time of 1 minute. The CO concentration is still below the threshold set by the government in the Regulation of the State Minister for the Environment No. 05 of 2006, which is the concentration of CO gas emitted by motor vehicles with gasoline fuel at idle conditions of ≤5.5%.  ---  Kabupaten Maros adalah daerah perlintasan menuju kota Makkassar. Sehingga sarana transportasi untuk menunjang mobilitas dan aktivitas masyarakat di beberapa daerah menuju kota Makassar harus melalui kota Maros. Oleh karena itu, jumlah kendaraan yang melewati kota Maros akan terus meningkat dari tahun ke tahun yang akan menimbulkan pencemaran atau polusi udara bagi lingkungan. Untuk menghasilkan kondisi lingkungan yang asri khususnya di lokasi SMA Negeri 1 Maros maka perlu diadakan pengabdian masyarakat dengan cara pengenalan dan pengaplikasian serta pemanfaatan alat PEM-9004 pada kendaraan bermotor khususnya kendaraan milik siswa di SMA Negeri 1 Maros. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa kadar emisi gas karbon monoksida (CO) dari kendaraan milik siswa adalah 1,791 %, kadar nitrogen oksida (NOx) dan nitrogen monoksida (NO) adalah masing-masing 7 ppm dan temperatur gas 45°C dengan waktu pengujian 1 menit. Konsentrasi CO masih berada di bawah ambang batas yang ditetapkan oleh pemerintah di dalam Peraturan Menteri Negara Lingkungan Hidup No. 05 Tahun 2006 yaitu konsentrasi gas CO yang diemisikan oleh kendaraan bermotor dengan bahan bakar bensin pada kondisi idle ≤5,5%.
