Abstract

The purpose of conducting this study is based on problem identification asking whether there are correlations among English speaking learning habits and self-confidence toward English speaking skills in promoting local tourism and culture of Bangka Belitung. The first-grade students of SMKN 3 Pangkalpinang in the academic year of 2018/2019 majoring in Tourism Travel Business Agent became the population in this study, and it took 50 students as the sample using a purposive random sampling technique. This correlational study used questionnaires and oral tests in collecting the data. The oral test was used to obtain English speaking skill data, while the questionnaires were used to obtain English speaking learning habits and students’ self-confidence data. The data were then analyzed using Simple and Multiple Correlation and Regression. The results of this study revealed that (1) there was a relationship between English speaking learning habit and English speaking skill, (2) there was a correlation between students’ self-confidence and English speaking skill, and (3) English speaking learning habit, confidence, and English speaking skill was simultaneously and positively correlated. In short, this study leads to a recommendation to the teachers and students to be aware of having good English speaking learning habits and high self-confidence to enhance English speaking skills.

Abstract

Kegiatan Bangka Tour Guide Training bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan peserta pelatihan dalam memandu wisata menggunakan Bahasa Inggris yang baik dan benar, serta didukung oleh eye contact, gesture, body language dan tutur bicara yang benar. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode ceramah, diskusi, dan praktik lapangan di lokasi wisata dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran students centered learning yaitu small group discussion dan guided project based learning. Berdasarkan hasil dari kegiatan yang dilaksanakan, peserta mampu memandu wisata menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia dengan sangat baik namun tidak begitu fasih ketika harus menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Memandu wisata dengan menggunakan eye contact, gesture, dan body language yang tepat masih menjadi hal yang baru bagi para peserta pelatihan. Bagaimanapun, pelatihan ini telah memberikan ilmu baru bagi peserta untuk menjadi seorang tour guide yang professional baik secara teori maupun secara praktik lapangan.

Abstract

Abstract: The background of conducting this reseach began with the intention to develope an approprite English learning media for Junior High School students in the rural area by utilizing the traditional games. The seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Mendobarat, Bangka Regency academic year of 2018/2019 were involved as the population with 30 students as the samples taken by using purposive random sampling. In this Research and Development Research (R&D), the data were obtained from the distributed pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The procedures applied in this research were the one adopted from Lee and Owen (2004) with the following steps; analyzing students’ need by distributing the need analysis questionnaire, designing English learning media according to the data of need analysis, developing the first draft of the learning media, asking experts’ judgement, and validating it. Two kinds of test which were Alpha testing that involved material and content experts, and Beta testing that involved students were applied in the validation phase. Based on the finding of the research, it was found that the traditional games based English learning media was feasible to use by the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Mendobarat, Bangka Regency. Therefore, this research leads to the recommendation to the students and teachers to consider traditional games as a feasible media to learn English.Key words: Traditional Game, Learning Media, English
