Abstract

This article aims to analyse the internal and external relations of Pinggawa-Sawi of Bugis-Makassar fishermen in South Sulawesi which has been persisted since hundred years ago.The shortcoming of ethnography study focusses on connection or coexistence between this traditional socio-economic organization of Bugis-Makassar fishermen and sea fishery modernization (with capitalism spirit) and global market makes the phenomena to be interesting to analyse/explain in the internal and external contexts.The study utilizes the data of Pinggawa-Sawi from the three Bugis-Makassar fishermen villages in South Sulawesi as material namely Sumpang Binangae (Barru), Lappa (Sinjai), and Tamalate (Takalar) which have long time ago respectively developed large scale type of light fishing (bagang rambo), long line tuna fishing (pancing tongkol), and purse seine (Gae). By applying the relational analysis found the four primary relational knots of Pinggawa-Sawi assure its survival in the wider communities and its mutual connection with sea fishery modernization, capitalism, and global market currents. By functioning the primary relational knots, the Pinggawa-Sawi has grown and rooted in the communities and coexisted with continually world economy development. Abstract

This article aims to analyze the complexity of interactions between Bajo fishermen communities and their sea environment in the form of coral reef resource management in Takabonerate in the past time by application of the paradigm of communalism in human ecology. The question proposed is how to construct the complexity of the interaction between Bajo fishermen communities and their sea environment in the context of belief systems, and socio-economic and political institutions in the early time of their arrival in Takabonerate archipelago up to the of 1940s. The article's material are taken from field research reports in which the data/information was gained by depth interviews and observation according to the focus of study and the chosen approach. The Bajo fishermen communities under study are concentrated in the village of Rajuni Island (as the center of the old Bajo Kingdom). This analysis indicates that the management patterns of sea environment and coral reef resource use applied by Bajo fishernen communities of Takabonerate are based on models of the great Panglima Menteng institution. The management is characterized by strong collective order; the sea resource use management reflects the intersubjective relations between human societies and natural/sea environment spirits; equity of household socio-economic welfare; the constantly controlled condition of environment and the balanced natural resource use. Abstract

This article describes and explains the complexity of dynamic process of sea fishery in Pulau Sembilan since the ancient up to now. With the application of the concepts such as diverging, homogenizing, continuity, and temporal, it has been found that the complexity of dynamic process of the fishing economy has oscillated between divergence and homogeneity. The divergence refers to different kinds of fishing activities based on various fish species by different traditional catch techniques, on the other hand, homogeneity refers to the concentration of fishermen activities on one or more similar kinds of fishing activities such as catching life fish (kerapu, sunu, napoleon) and life lobster as top commodities in the period of 1990s. When the populations of the main fish species were decreased as negative impact of overexploitation since the beginning of the 2000s, there were many fishermen returning again to different kinds of fishing activities. It means that the diverging process began its era. The process of diverging and homogenizing of fishery involve cognitive systems as guide for fishermen decision making. These processes indicate persistent and temporal functions of traditional and new fishing techniques of Pulau Sembilan fishing communities. By processual and contextual explanation, it was clear that diverging and homogenizing of fishery is a continuum of its dynamic process. The processes are influenced by internal and external socio-cultural factors and the change of sea physical environment and natural resource conditions. From this explanation known that new practice of using potassium cyanide contributes significantly to the serious degradation of large part of coral reef zones in and outside of Pulau Sembilan water. Abstract

Indonesia dikenal sebagai negara agraris, tapi ironisnya hampir semua kebutuhan makanan pokokdiimpor. Ini perlu diteliti lebih jauh mengapa fenomena ini terjadi. Isu kerusakan lingkungan dan semakintergerusnya sumber-sumber ekonomi masyarakat seperti biaya produksi dan resiko ber-usahatani semakin tinggiserta ketergantungan petani terhadap penggunaan eksternal input, membuat hasil produksi tidak seimbang denganpengorbanan yang diberikan. Oleh sebab itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan pengetahuan lokalpetani, kreatifitas petani yang dapat membentuk karakter petani yang memiliki pola pikir entrepreneurial. Metodeyang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data wawancara mendalam, observasi,dan fokus group diskusi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan lokal diaplikasikan dalam setiapkegiatan pertanian mulai dari penentuan musim dan pemilihan bibit hingga pasca panen dan hasil produksi, untukmembangun petani yang berjiwa agroecopreneur dan arif lingkungan diperlukan akumulasi pengetahuan lokal dankreatifitas petani, baik yang bersumber dari tradisi lokal maupun yang dari luar secara selektif dalam situasi dankondisi yang kondusif melibatkan secara aktif semua unsur stakeholder.Kata Kunci: Pengetahuan Lokal, Kreativitas Petani, Pengembangan, Entrepreneur, Arif Lingkungan

Abstract

Thisarticle is an initiative to develop the maritime anthropology field of study that up till now is stagnant and tends to be concerned with the surface structure of the maritime cultural phenomena. By application of the concept of reproduction maritime ethos disposition in explaining the navigational experience and maritime interaction of Bugis-Makassar seamen, some of their maritime cultural valuescan be discovered. Attitudes and main values such as knowledge and navigation skills, adaptation with physical environment and socio-culture, water spatial concept, brave and like adventure, hard working and competitive, honest and trustable, loyal and responsible, openness and freedom, strict to attitude and religious, collectivism, etc. which were applied in the trading and sailing activities of the Bugis-Makassar sailors can be understood as maritime cultural values. Indonesia maritime cultural values of Bugis-Makassar are also in the forms of awareness and diversity of values and relationships between ethnic groups and cultures, love to the country, language unity, and nationality. This article isbased on historical annotation of Bugis-Makassar seamenship and field work data from Bira (Bugis region) and Paotere (Makassar region) conducted in six months (from April to September 2010).Keywords: Bugis-Makassar seamen, seamenship experience, maritime culture reproduction.

Abstract

AbstractAlthough the Green Revolution in Indonesia has shown an increase in theagriculturalproduction, a rapid marginalisation process among the farmers has taken place simultaneously.This article aims to identify the role of Sekolah Lapang Petani (Farmer Field School), which isone of the programs conducted byPengelolaan Hama Terpadu (Integrated Pest Management,IPM). This program is conducted by the government in response to the negative impacts of theGreen Revolution that is consideredto be responsible in deteriorating the local knowledge andthe local wisdom techniques, the power of creative-innovation and the freedom of the farmers.This study was conducted in two different sites in South Sulawesi, namely: Manjalling Village(Gowa) and Soreang Village (Maros). Our informants are those who joined SLP-PHT programin the two locations. They consistof 17 farmers; 5 of them are from Manjalling, while rests arefrom Soreang. We triangulate, in-depth interview, observation, life history, and focus groupdiscussion (FGD) as our data collection methods.The results showed that the implementation of SLP-PHT program in Manjallingand Soreanghas played an important role in the application process of the local knowledge and the farmers’creative-innovative development in agricultural, such as productive, righteousness, adaptive,and environmentally friendly.Keywords: farmer field school, creativity, innovative, plant fertilizer and medicine.

Abstract

Literatures mostly focus on the Indonesian maritime communities discussing the local-traditional institutions, socio-economics, fishing techniques, marine fishery modernization which stressing capitalism and global market, poverty of fishing communities, as well as marine ecosystem destruction. In fact, most of those studies neglect the navigation and maritime interaction of fishermen, which become the key to comprehend the core and characteristics of maritime culture over the world. This article aims to identify and analyze the maritime geobio-socio-cultural insights of the Buginese-Makassarese fishermen within the context of their voyage and interaction with the other fishermen communities in Indonesia. The data were collected selectively from some research reports, especially “Studying the Institution and Maritime Cultural Concept of Buginese-Makassarese, Mandarese, and Butonese Seamans Supporting the Strength of National Integration and Social Harmony” (LP2M Unhas, 2010), in which I participated as coordinator and team member. Froom the new “navigation and reproduction of maritime geo-socio-cultural insights” model, four themes of maritime geo-bio-socio-cultural insights of the Buginese-Makassarese can be identified, namely (1) the insight of geo-bio-climate Nusantara sea, (2) the insight of sea as space with its bio-abiotic resources as opened-closed property/access, (3) the insight of maritime ethnic and culture diversity, and (4) the concept of homeland and maritime nation unity. Keywords: Bugis-Makassar fishermen, reproduction of Nusantara geo-bio-socio-cultural maritime insights, Indonesia Bacaan tentang masyarakat maritim di Indonesia menunjukkan adanya kecenderungan pilihan subjek pada komunitas-komunitas nelayan dengan fokus studi pada aspek-aspek institusi, sosial-ekonomi, teknologi penangkapan ikan, dan modernisasi teknologi perikanan laut (dengan kapitalisme dan pasar global) serta dampak kemiskinan penduduk nelayan dan kerusakan lingkungan. Sayangnya, kajian yang ada cenderung mengabaikan aspek-aspek kepelayaran dan interaksi kemaritimannya yang justru merupakan kunci menemukan inti dan karakteristik umum budaya maritim di dunia. Tulisan ini bermaksud mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis unsur-unsur wawasan kesatuan geo-bio-sosial-budaya maritim ke-Nusantara-an dari nelayan pengembara BugisMakassar dalam konteks pelayaran dan interaksi kemaritimannya dengan lingkungan laut dan kelompok nelayan lainnya di Indonesia. Sumber data untuk penulisan artikel ini diambil secara selektif dari beberapa laporan penelitian, khususnya “Studying the Institution and Maritime Cultural Concept of Buginese-Makassarese, Mandarese, and Butonese Seamans Supporting the Strength of National Integration and Social Harmony” (LPPM Unhas, 2010) di mana penulis terlibat aktif sebagai koordinator maupun anggota tim peneliti. Melalui aplikasi model analisis “navigasi dan reproduksi wawasan geo-bio-sosial-budaya maritim” yang baru, empat tema wawasan budaya maritim ke-Nusantara-an yang dimiliki nelayan pengembara Bugis-Makassar dapat diidentifikasi, yaitu (1) wawasan tentang lingkungan geo-bio-iklim perairan Nusantara, (2) wawasan tentang laut dan isinya sebagai ruang terbuka-tertutup, (3) wawasan tentang keanekaragaman suku bangsa laut dan budaya maritimnya, dan (4) konsep kesatuan Tanah Air dan Bangsa Maritim Nusantara. Abstract

Pokok masalah pada penelitian ini adalah Diaspora Keturunana Arab di Desa Bonde Kecamatan Campalagian Kabupaten Polewali Manadar Abad XIX-XX. Adapun sub masalah yaitu : sejarah kedatangan keturunan Arab di Desa Bonde, bagaimana keberadaannya di Desa Bonde kecamatan Campalagian pada abad XIX-XX dan bagaimana kontribusinya terhadap masyarakat yang ada didaerah tersebut.Dalam pembahasan Skripsi ini, jenis penelitian ini tergolong penelitian Kualitatif dengan pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah, pendekatan Sejarah/History, Pendekatan Sosiologi Agama, dan Pendekatan Antropologi, selanjutnya metode pengumpulan data dengan Menggunakan field research, penulis berusaha untuk mengemukakan mengenai objek yang dibicarakan sesuai kenyataan yang terjadi di masyarakat.Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti dengan data dan wawancara bahwa mengenai diaspora keturunan Arab ini  diketahui sudah berlangsung sejak lama dan keturunan Arab banyak bertempat tinggal di seluruh Indonesia dan terkhusus juga ada di Desa Bonde kecamatan Campalalgian Kabupaten Polewali Mandar.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out (1) the role of paseppi' botting in Bugis wedding customs in Watansoppeng, (2) The meaning of paseppi' botting in wedding customs in Watansoppeng, the approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative with observational data collection methods, interviews , and documentation then analyze the data with data reduction techniques, data presentation and drawing conclusions.The results of the study show that (1) the role of paseppi' as a symbol of startification which is symbolized in the number of passeppi, namely: One pair of bali botting, comes from the ata' or to sama' class of ordinary people. Two pairs of passeppi botting, are in the aristocratic class which are categorized as bau, andi, petta. Three pairs of passeppi botting belong to the high aristocratic class which are categorized as kings, datu. (2) The people of Soppeng interpret passeppi botting in marriage: a positive impression because paseppi is interpreted as respecting and guiding, accompanying the happiness of a married couple who have made their solemnization of a marriage. Negative impression because many people mix up wedding customs that are not in accordance with their social status.Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui (1) peran paseppi’ botting dalam adat perkawinan Bugis di Watansoppeng, (2) Makna paseppi’ botting dalam adat perkawinan di Watansoppeng, pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif  kualitatif  dengan metode pengumpulan data observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi kemudian menganalisis data dengan teknik reduksi data,penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) peran paseppi’ sebagai simbol startifikasi yang dilmbangkan dalam jumlah passeppi yakni : Satu pasang bali botting, berasal dari golongan ata’ atau to sama’ orang biasa. Dua pasang passeppi botting, berada pada golongan bangsawan yang dikategorikan bau, andi, petta. Tiga pasang passeppi botting, berada pada golongan bangsawan tinggi yang dikategorikan sebagai raja, datu.(2) masyarakat Soppeng memaknai passeppi botting dalam perkawinan: kesan positif karena paseppi dimaknai menghargai dan menuntun, mengiringi kebahagiaan suatu pasangan suami istri ini yang telah melakukan ijab Kabul.Kesan negatif karna banyak orang yang mencampur adukkan adat pernikahan yang tidak sesuai dengan status sosialnya.

Abstract

Artikel ini merupakan hasil penelitian kami tentang refungsionalisasi nilai-nilai budaya Buton dalam mengatasi kerawanan sosial di Kota Baubau, serta strategi memfungsikan kembali nilai-nilai budaya Buton sebagai upaya preventif dalam mengatasi kerawanan sosial. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif di Kota Baubau sebagai lokasi utama pemukiman kelompok pewaris nilai luhur Budaya Buton era Kesultanan Buton, namun masih sering terjadi tindakan kekerasan. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pengamatan, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam dengan informan. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan secara dengan deskriptif kualitatif. Kekayaan nilai-nilai budaya Buton menunjukkan potensi besar untuk dilakukan fungsionalisasi dalam berkehidupan masyarakat secara harmonis dan kokoh serta dinamis ke depan. Dalam rangka refungsionalisasi tersebut, perlu diperlukan strategi-strategi: pengaktifan peran desa adat, pembentukan dan atau penguatan kelembagaan budaya Buton yang sudah ada sebelumnya, memasukkan nilai-nilai budaya Buton dalam kurikulum pembelajaran di sekolah, memerdakan pemungsian beberapa komponen nilai budaya utama (Perda/Peraturan Daerah), dan kajian mendalam dan berkelanjutan tentang nilai-nilai budaya Buton untuk dijadikan referensi dan rekomendasi pembangunan berkelanjutan di segala bidang kehidupan.
