Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness usage of Indigofera zollingeriana leaf meal (I) and Sardinella lemuru fish oil (L) in diets on the decreasing levels of cholesterol and lipid metabolism of laying duck. One hundred and forty-four Magelang ducks aged 20-32 weeks, laying periode, with an average body weigth of 1,72±0,12 kg were used, which were divided into 6 groups of experimental diets, 3 replications, and of 8 layers each. A completely randomized design, 3x2 factorial design was used in this experiment. The first factor was usage Indigofera zollingeriana leaf meal which replaced protein soybean meal (0%, 5,5%, 11%). The second factor was usage Sardinella lemuru fish oil (0%, 2%). The results showed that the treatment (I5.5L2) was highly significant affected (P<0.01) the level of triglyceride, HDL, and LDL in the blood. The treatment I0L2 significantly decrease (P<0.05) total cholesterol of blood lipid profile and meat cholesterol. The treatment (I11L2) was highly significantly decreased (P<0.01) egg cholesterol. The conclusion of this study was that feeding Indigofera zollingeriana leaf meal 5.5% and Sardinella lemuru fish oil 2% in laying duck’s diet could maintain the balance of blood lipid profiles by lowering plasma triglycerides, LDL, cholesterol and raising up plasma HDL and plays an important role on lipid metabolism of Magelang laying ducks to produce eggs and meat with low cholesterol content.

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment is to study the effect of organic selenium (Se) supplementation on the expression of heat shock protein 70 gene (HSP70), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) enzyme activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) and productivity of broilers in tropical environment. Three kinds of environmental pens were designed in this experiment: comfortable environment pens with temperature of air conditioner adjusted at 22oC (R0), tropical environment pens (±30oC ) without organic Se (R1), and tropical environment pens supplemented with 0.30 ppm organic Se (R2). One hundred and twenty broiler chickens (unisex) were used in this study. There were 40 chicks per pen for each treatment. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications for each treatment. The data were statistically analyzed using the general linear model of SAS program. Results showed that R0 and R2 groups had significantly increased (P<0.05) feed intake, body weight, body weight gain, and decreased feed conversion ratio compared to R1 groups. Meanwhile, the expression of HSP70, GSH-Px enzyme activity and MDA of R2 groups and R0 groups were significantly lower (P<0.05) than that of R1 groups. It was concluded that the broilers given 0.30 ppm organic Se in tropical environment had similar productivity and expression of HSP 70 with broilers kept in comfortable environment.

Abstract

The objective of the experiment was to study the effect of feeding fermented Jatropha curcas L.meal (JCM) supplemented with cellulase and phytase on the performances of ISA-Brown laying henaged 25-30 weeks. The Jatropha curcas meal was fermented using Rizhopus oligosporus. In this study200 laying hens were used and distributed to 5 treatments and 4 replications in Completely RandomizedDesign. The diet treatments were: R0 = control diet (without JCM), R1; diet contained fermented JCM7.5%, R2; diet contained fermented JCM 7.5% + celullase 200 g/ton, R3; diet contained fermented JCM7.5% + phytase 200 g/ton and R4; diet contained fermented JCM 7.5% + cellulase 200 g/ton + phytase200 g/ton. The parameters observed were feed consumption, hen day egg production, egg massproduction, egg weight and feed conversion ratio. The results showed that feeding fermented JCM 7.5%,both enzyme supplemented as well as unsupplemented significantly decreased (P<0.05) the feedconsumption, hen day egg and egg mass production. However, the treatments did not influence the eggweight. Supplementation of cellulase (R2) or phytase (R3) improved the feed conversion ratio with thevalue as same as the R0 diet.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk menguji pengaruh pemberian kombinasi herbal dengan mineral zink dalam ransum broiler yang diinfeksi Escherichia coli (E. coli). Dua ratus ekor d.o.c (day old chick) dibagi secara acak ke dalam lima perlakuan, masing-masing perlakuan diulang empat kali sehingga terdapat 20 unit percobaan, setiap unit percobaan terdiri dari 10 ekor d.o.c. Anak ayam percobaan dipelihara selama 35 hari. Ransum perlakuan terdiri dari R1 = Pakan basal/ ayamsehat (kontrolnegatif); R2 = Pakan basal/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli (kontrolpositif); R3= Pakan basal + serbukkunyit 1.5% + ZnO 180 ppm/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli; R4 = Pakan basal + serbukbawangputih 2.5% + ZnO 180 ppm/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli; R5 = Pakan basal + antibiotik/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli.Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap. Peubah yang diamati konsumsi ransum, pertambahan bobot badan, dan konversi ransum. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberian kombinasi kunyit 1.5% dengan ZnO 180 ppm dan kombinasi bawang putih 2.5% dengan zink 180 ppm dalam ransum mampu memperlihatkan performa yang lebih baik.Kata Kunci:Daun ubi jalar, Pertambahan berat badan, Konsumsi ransum, Konversi ransum, Ayambroiler.ABSTRACTTHE EFFECT OF SUPPLEMENTA-TION SWEET POTATO LEAVES MEAL (Ipomea batatas) ON BROILER PERFORMANCE.This experiment was conducted to study the combination of herbal with zink in poultry diet on the performance of Escherichia coli – challenged broiler. Two hundred d.o.c unsexed were devided into five treatments and four replications, with ten chicks in each replicates. The treatments were R1 (basal diet as a negative control/ healhty chickens), R2 (basal diet as a positive control/ Escherichia coli challenged), R3 (basal diet +1.5% turmeric powder + ZnO 180 ppm/ Escherichia coli challenged), R4 (basal diet + 2.5% garlic powder + ZnO 180 ppm/ Escherichia coli challenged), and R5 (basal diet + antibiotic/ Escherichia coli challenged). Data were collected during 35 days, diet and water were offered ad libitum. The results of this research indicated that chickens fed basal diet + 1.5% turmeric powder + ZnO 180 ppm/ challenged Escherichia coli and chickens fed basal diet + 2.5% garlic powder +ZnO 180 ppm/ challenged Escherichia coli showed performances better than control .Keywords: Sweet potato leaves, Body weight, Consumtion ration, Convertion ration, Broiler

Abstract

Bone health in laying hens is associated with production performance and physical egg quality. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a diet supplemented with Nutricell Eggstra (vitamin D3 enriched with canthaxanthin) on the production performance, egg quality, bone mineral, and immunity of laying hens. Herein, 150 Lohmann laying hens were divided into three treatments with five replicates. The treatment diets were: T1= diet without Nutricell Eggstra supplementation (control), T2= diet supplemented with 1.00 kg/ton Nutricell Eggstra, and T3= diet supplemented with 1.50 kg/ton Nutricell Eggstra. Compared to the control diet, supplementation of Nutricell Eggstra at doses of 1.00 kg/ton and 1.50 kg/ton significantly increased (p<0.05) hen day production, egg mass, egg index, yolk index, albumen weight, yolk color, eggshell thickness, eggshell strength, vitamin D3 content in egg yolk, heterophil, and heterophil/lymphocyte ratio. Supplementation of Nutricell Eggstra at the studied doses significantly decreased (p<0.05) the feed conversion ratio, yolk weight, eggshell porosity, and lymphocyte content. Nutricell Eggstra supplementation did not affect feed consumption, egg weight, albumen index, albumen weight, eggshell weight, Haugh unit, and tibia bone minerals. In conclusion, supplementation of 1.00 kg/ton Nutricell Eggstra yielded the best performance for Lohmann laying hens aged 36-39 weeks, while supplementation of 1.50 kg/ton Nutricell Eggstra produced the best quality eggs.
