Abstract

Environmental crisis is in principal brought about by human activities. Therefore, it is required to exercise new approach towards the environment, that is ethical approach by which principles and moral guidance for human behaviors are put forward. This article is to describe Yusuf al-Qaraḍāwy’s thought of Islamic-ethical concept on environment, and its relevance with the handling of environmental-global crisis. His thought is based on Islamic jurisprudential and ethical values. Values of the former are the followings: planting barren land, keeping cleanliness, cultivation, and forestation, meanwhile those of the latter are the application of al-ihsān concept, being friendly with environment, destructive prohibition, justice, gratitude, and simplicity. Al-Qaraḍāwy’s concept is absolutely appropriate for the prevailing environmental-global crisis. It is hoped that Indonesian Muslims, as majority group, would like to comprehend the concept and to build consciousness of religious way of thinking towards the environment. Hopefully, this concept is workable for coping with the environmental crisis, as well.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study distribution and abundance of (shrubs, herbs, and rumput) under the three stands,i.e. Pinus mercusii, Acacia auriculiformis and Eucalyptus alba and environmental factors influencing them in Gama Girimandiri Forest. Data were collected in April-May 2011, using square plots. Plots were located in three locations by followinga stratified random sampling method. We administered 10 repetitions, and plot size 5x5 m for shrubs and herbs, and 1X1 m forgrass. The species found in each stand were identified and calculated for their density, frequency, domination, importantvalue, diversity index, and those parameters’ correlation with the measured environmental factors. The study shows that 59species of herbs and shrubs, and 12 species of grass. In the three stands, it could be shown various domination of grass,meanwhile there is no dominant species at the level of herbs and shrubs. The highest density, measured by diversity index,was observed at the stand of Pinus (3,13), followed by Acacia (3,12) and Eucalyptus (2,8). The distribution and density ofMemecylon sp and Oplismenus burmanni were observed at their highest value under the stand of Pinus, Lantana camaraLinn (37.2). At the same fashion, Paspalum conjugatum (58.3) does under the stand of Acacia, and Desmodium triflorum(64,2) and Ischaemum magnum (122) under Eucalyptus. Lantana camara could always be found under the three stands, ithad high important value, categorized as strategy species and invasive. Light density and pH significantly influenced thediversity index of shrubs and herbs. In addition, only soil temperature gave an effect to grass.

Abstract

Assisted-reproductive technology (ART) has developed rapidly, and has brought controversies in terms of legality and ethics. Todays, majority of people rely on bioethics to address the issue. Yet, bioethics in its development, mostly is influenced by Western values such as autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. Some communities, like Islam, need to respond the issue using “Islamic bioethics”. This paper explores how Muslims in Indonesia tackle the issue and set up “Islamic bioethical values” accordingly. Our literary research found that some individual interpretation and judgments (ijtihād) have been given both by Islamic organizations [Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), and Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI)] and outstanding ulama. Fatwas issued by the majorities indicate that although the methods of inquiries are different, the result is the same, that is rejecting the presence of a third party in the form of sperm, ovum, or uterus.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v24i1.2209

Abstract

Gramineae merupakan kelompok tumbuhan berbiji atau spermatophyta yang jumlah anggota jenisnya besar. Famili gramineae juga merupakan famili penting karena beberapa spesiesnya merupakan spesies penting salah satunya sebagai tanaman pokok, sehingga penelitian mengenai diversitas Gramineae penting dilakukan untuk menggali potensi jenis alternatif di suatu daerah. Gunung Api Purba Ngelanggeran merupakan salah satu Gunung Api Purba di Indonesia yang mempunyai karakteristik yang unik karena termasuk gunung tersier yang berusia 20-25 juta tahun dan memiliki iklim transisi dari basah kearah kering.Tujuan penelitian mempelajari diversitas spesies graminae di Kawasan Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran Yogyakarta. Metode yang digunakan metode kuadrat dengan koleksi spesies menggunakan plot berukuran 1 meter x 1 meter dengan peletakkan plot secara acak. Iventarisasi speies dilakukan berdasarkan ketinggian tempat dimulai dari ketinggian 200 mdpl hingga 700 mdpl dan dibagi menjadi lima ring penelitian diantaranya ring pertama 200-300 mdpl, ring kedua 301-400 mdpl, ring ketiga 401-500 mdpl, ring keempat 501-600 mdpl dan ring krlima 601-700 mdpl. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan 45 spesies graminae di Kawasan Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran. Indeks diversitas tertinggi ditemukan pada ring penelitian pertama dengan nilai indeks diversitas 3.067 termasuk dalam kategori tinggi dan empat ring penelitian lainnya memiliki nilai indeks diversitas berkisar antara 2.432 – 2.767 termasuk kategori sedang. Spesies gramineae yang dominan muncul di setiap plot penelitian yaitu Oplesmenus burmani (Retz.) Beauv., Oplesmenus compositae (L.) Beauv. Kesimpulan dari penelitian telah ditemukan 45 spesies graminae di lima ring penelitian dengan indeks diversitas tertinggi terdapat pada ring pertama dengan nilai indeks diveristas sebesar 3.067 yang termasuk dalam kategori memiliki diversitas tinggi.
