Abstract

Electrical energy cannot be separated from human life. Today, the exploitation of energy leads to renewable energy. One of the renewable energy is water flow energy. The Savonius turbine is a type of water turbine which is suitable for low flow velocity. One method of increasing the performance of the Savonius Turbine is by using a deflector. This study aims to see the effect of using a deflector on the performance of the Savonius Turbine. The methodology used in this research is testing with variations in the number of turbine blades and deflector angle. The number of turbine blades used were two, three, and four blades, while the deflector angles used were 0°, 20°, 40°, 60°, and 80°. The result show that the using a deflector angle of 80° make turbine inlet flow is better. The best performance is obtained on the three blades Savonius Turbine and 80° deflector angle with  power  0.154 Watt and coefficient of power 0.132.

Abstract

Synchronous motor is an alternating current (AC) motor that operates with the prime mover as the initial rotation of the rotor until the rotational speed is equal to the rotational speed of the imaginary poles on the stator. In its application a 3-phase synchronous motor needs to be set in advance so that the resulting speed is stable. In this big task of Electric Motor Control, a speed experiment was carried out on a 3-phase synchronous motor using Mathlab simulation with Siemens motor specifications, namely 50 Hz, 400 V with 16kVA power and 1500 RPM rotational speed using PID control to control the speed of a 3-phase synchronous motor so that it is more stable. From the calculations that have been carried out and the PID tuning that has been carried out, the results show that the PID control can control the motor so as to produce a more stable and efficient speed in the industry

Abstract

Pico hydropower plant is a generator engaged in the field of renewable energy, in general, the power system uses a 3-phase synchronous generator with AC voltage, in its development it can be used as a converter, by converting AC voltage to DC voltage. One of the uses of DC voltage is as so that it can be used as a battery charger or battery discharger. An AC-DC converter, also known as a rectifier, is a device for converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). In general, many technologies in the industrial world utilize converters. In this paper, a simulation design of an AC-DC converter system will be made with a 230 Volt AC input with a DC voltage output. The manufacture of the converter is carried out with different gate values on the thyristors which are simulated using Simulink in MATLAB. The results of this study are in the form of analysis and mathematical calculations of the output of the AC-DC converter where from the simulation results that AC voltage can be converted to DC voltage with the working principle of the thyristor, thus the converter output results can be used in battery chargers and battery dischargers

Abstract

Mangrove forests have a high ecological and socio-economic role for humans. The world lost around 800,000 hectares of mangrove ecosystems and more than half of this occurred in Indonesia. There are three main factors causing mangrove destruction in Indonesia, namely pollution, mangrove forest conversion and excessive logging. In the last 10 years approximately 200 hectares of mangrove forest around Balikpapan Bay have been damaged. So, to prevent damage to mangrove forests in Balikpapan from becoming more widespread, it is necessary to carry out participatory restoration efforts with the aim of preserving mangrove forests through planting mangrove trees. This community service program is located in the mangrove forest of Graha Indah sub-district, North Balikpapan District because it is also one of the mangrove conservation locations in Balikpapan, namely the Graha Indah Mangrove Center. The series of activities that will be carried out with students as participants and partners as resource persons are socialization activities regarding the role of mangrove forests, nursery activities and planting of mangrove trees. The result of this activity is an increase in awareness and understanding regarding the importance of preserving mangrove forests for the life of flora, fauna and humans and also increasing skills in seeding and planting mangrove trees. So this activity can provide direct benefits and positive impacts for efforts to preserve mangrove forests, especially in Balikpapan ABSTRAK: Hutan mangrove mempunyai peran ekologi dan sosial-ekonomi yang tinggi bagi manusia. Dunia kehilangan sekitar 800.000 hektar ekosistem mangrove dan lebih dari separuhnya terjadi di negara Indonesia. Terdapat  tiga  faktor  utama  penyebab kerusakan mangrove di Indonesia, yaitu pencemaran, konversi hutan mangrove dan juga penebangan yang berlebihan. Dalam 10 tahun terakhir kurang lebih ada 200 hektar lahan hutan mangrove di sekitar teluk Balikpapan yang telah rusak. Maka untuk mencegah kerusakan hutan mangrove di Balikpapan semakin meluas, perlu dilakukan upaya restorasi yang bersifat partisipatif dengan tujuan pelestarian hutan mangrove melalui penanaman pohon mangrove. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berlokasi di hutan mangrove kelurahan Graha Indah, Kecamatan Balikpapan Utara karena juga merupakan salah satu lokasi konservasi mangrove di Balikpapan yaitu Mangrove Center Graha Indah. Rangkaian kegiatan yang akan dilakukan bersama mahasiswa sebagai peserta dan mitra sebagai narasumber yaitu kegiatan sosialisasi mengenai peran hutan mangrove, kegiatan pembibitan dan penanaman pohon mangrove. Hasil dari kegiatan kegiatan ini adalah terjadinya peningkatan kesadaran dan pemahaman mengenai pentingnya pelestarian hutan mangrove bagi kehidupan flora, fauna dan manusia dan juga meningkatkan keterampilan dalam melakukan pembibitan dan penanaman pohon mangrove. Sehingga kegiatan ini dapat memberikan manfaat dan dampak positif secara langsung bagi upaya pelestarian hutan mangrove khususnya di kota Balikpapan.
