Abstract

Background: Obesity has become a global epidemic with a threefold increase in cases since 1975. Dietary restriction that contains high calories, fat and also dietary interventions with natural bioactive foods such as flavonoids can prevent obesity. Assessment of intake for dietary regulation can use the Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) and 24-hour Food Recall (FR) method Purposes: This study aimed to determine the average intake of macronutrients and total flavonoids using the SQ-FFQ and FR 24 Hr methods in women of childbearing age (WUS) with obesity and to knew the differences and correlations between the methods. Methods: a cross-sectional design was carried out from May to June 2021 in Kendari City. Samples were obtained through the purposive sampling technique as many as 30 WUS aged 18-49 years with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m2. Data were collected through interviews to obtain information on macronutrient intake and total flavonoids using the SQ-FFQ and 24-hour FR questionnaire instruments. Anthropometric data was performed to assess nutritional status. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program through different tests and correlation tests. Results: The mean intake of macronutrients (energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrates) and total flavonoids using the SQ-FFQ method was higher than the 24-hour FR method. The different tests of the intake of energy, protein, carbohydrates, and total flavonoids using the SQ-FFQ method was significantly different from the 24-hour FR method (p<0.001). Fat intake was not significantly different between the two methods (p=0,267). The intake of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and total flavonoids correlated by the two methods (p<0.05) with a correlation coefficient (r) of energy intake = 0.538, protein = 0.556, fat = 0.395, carbohydrates 0.665, and total flavonoids = 0.723. Conclusion: We conclude that The SQ-FFQ method is a valid tool to measure the intake of energy, protein, carbohydrates, fat and total flavonoids in obese women in women with obesity in the city of Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Nutritional status is an individual's health condition, which is determined by the degree of physical need for energy and nutrients obtained from food. The most important behavior that can affect nutritional status is consumption pattern. This is because the quantity and quality of consumed food and drink will affect nutritional intake, which in turn it will affect the health of individuals and society. Purposes: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between consumption patterns of carbohydrate source foods and nutritional status in the people of Nambo District. Method: This research is an observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. This study's population includes all residents of the Nambo District. The research sample consisted of 106 respondents, who were selected using the purposive sampling technique. Data collection included examining nutritional status by weighing and measuring height as well as conducting interviews using Food Recall 24 Hours for 2 days. Data were analyzed by Spearman's rank test. Results: The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship (p < 0.05) between the consumption patterns of carbohydrate source foods and nutritional status in the people of Nambo District, and the value of r = 0.493 indicates the strength of the correlation between consumption patterns of carbohydrate source foods and nutritional status in the people of Nambo District is moderate in nature with a positive correlation direction, which indicates a unidirectional correlation direction. Conclusion: There is a relationship between consumption patterns of carbohydrate source foods and nutritional status among the people of Nambo District.

Abstract

Background: Due to their golden age of physical development and intelligence, infants nutritional status requires special consideration. Preliminary investigations at the Nambo Primary Health Care found that 19 toddlers suffered from wasted, with four being severely wasted. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the toddler's immunization status and the mother's level of nutritional education on the nutritional status of infants in the Nambo Primary Health Care working area. Methods: This study utilized a case-control design in the Nambo Primary Health Care working area from November to December 2022. This investigation included 69 toddlers as participants (23 toddlers in the case group and 46 toddlers in the control group). We gathered data by administering a questionnaire and measuring the toddler's weight and height, which we analyzed using the chi-square test and Fisher’s Exact test. Results: Results indicated that immunization status significantly influences the nutritional status of infants (OR = 4.594; p = 0.034; 95% CI: 1.183–17.840). The mother's nutritional knowledge has a significant effect on the nutritional status of toddlers (OR = 10.587; p = 0.000; 95% CI = 3.118–37.818). Conclusions: The nutritional status of toddlers in the Nambo Primary Health Care Working Area, Kendari City, is influenced by the nutritional knowledge and vaccination status of their mothers.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Backround. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a refractive error in which parallel rays of light entering the eye are focused in front of the retina instead of directly on it. This condition is often caused by prolonged near work activities over time. This study aims to identify the factors associated with the degree of myopia among students at SMPN 1 Raha, using samples of students previously diagnosed by a physician or other profesional healthcare. Method. This study employed a quantitative analytic observational method with a cross-sectional approach. Primary data were collected using a questionnaire. A total of 84 respondents were selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using SPSS software with the Chi-Square statistical test. Results. Statistical analysis showed that family history (p = 0.026), prolonged duration of near work activities (>10 hours/day) (p = 0.027), and longer duration of outdoor activities (p = 0.006) were significantly associated with the degree of myopia among students at SMPN 1 Raha. Conclusion. Family history, duration of near work activities, and duration of outdoor activities are factors significantly associated with the degree of myopia in students at SMPN 1 Raha. Keywords. Near Work Activities, Outdoor Activities, Myopia Degree, Family Factors, Junior High School Students.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Bacteria are microorganisms that have a single cell, prokaryotes. Normal skin is usually occupied by bacteria around 102-106 CFU/ml. Purpose(s): This study aims to determine the characteristics of the bacteria from hand swabs in ward patients at the Kendari City Regional General Hospital in 2023. Methods: This research is an observational descriptive study. The research sample was taken from the patients in patient room. The samples obtained were then cultured at the Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Halu Oleo University. Analyzed descriptively and displayed in tabular form. Results: The results showed that there was growth of bacterial colonies. The bacteria found in the samples from the patient's hand swabs were Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus sp., Bacillus sp., Enterobacter sp. Conclusion: There was growth of bacterial colonies obtained from the results of hand swabs of ward care patients at the Kendari City Regional General Hospital.
