Abstract

This article is an attempt to analyze Ibn 'Arabi's view of ta'wīl (esoteric commentary) of the Qur'an. This Sufi Master of Andalusia refuses the ta'wīl controlled by reasoning, reflection, thinking, and desire because such ta'wīl deviates from what God meant by His words contained by His Book. But he accepts the ta'wīl guided by God through intuitive unveiling (kashf), that is, the ta'wīl bestowed by God to those whom He gave success in understanding what God meant by His words contained by His Book. This ta'wīl, which is advocated by Ibn 'Arabi, maintains the coformity between the outward meaning and inward meaning

Abstract

This article is an attempt to explore especially the position and function of spirit (al-rūh) in human being. Ibn ‘Arabi describes analogically human being as a “human kingdom” (al-mamlakah al-insaniyyah). Spirit is the king of the kingdom, the highest leader which is called the “vicegerent of God” (khalīfatu‘Llah) or shortly the “vicegerent” (khalīfah). This writing presents Ibn ‘Arabi’s view on the divine design and management of the world, and the central role the human model plays in the creative and governing process. The only way to reach the human perfection is divine governance (al-tadbīrat al-ilahiyyah) of the human kingdom in which the spirit governs and controls the soul and body. This Sufi uses metaphors from worldly politics to illuminate details of the spiritual search.

Abstract

This paper attempts to appreciate the work of an ex-priest who now is a Muslim author, Jerald F. Dirks, entitled Abrahamic Faiths. In the context of comparative religion studies, the writer (Kautsar Azhari)asks: is this Dirks’ work a comparison or competition of religions? Kautsar concludes that the work tends to be a competition in between the Abrahamic religions. However, the match was a friendly match. Dirks’ book, even though apologetic and polemical in character, is served in polite way and style, and is a work trying to reconcile between the children of AbrahamKeywords: God, theology, monotheism.DOI: 10.15408/ref.v13i1.990

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Bila kualitas spiritual manusia baik, maka kualitas kehidupan manusia juga baik. Bila kualitas spiritual manusia buruk, maka kualitas kehidupan manusia juga buruk. Semakin baik kualitas spiritual, semakin baik kualitas kehidupan manusia.

Abstract

It is undeniable that Islamic mysticism (tasawuf) has important contribution to Islamic civilization development. But, its complicated and ‘wilderness’ teaching makes it always becomes the object of criticism especially from the scholars of fiqh. Using historic-conceptual trace, this writing reveals the role of Islamic mysticism in developing Islamic civilization such as in philosophy, education, psychology, literature, dance and music. The fundamental concept of sufi wahdah al-Wujûd (the oneness of Being) gives contribution to solve problems related to modern science especially physic. Islamic mysticism like modern physic, teaches the awareness of unity and interrelationship among all things and events, occurrence of all phenomena in this universe as a manifestation of a basic unity. However, its intricate teachings which is difficult to accept by ordinary people frequently lead to misunderstanding. To make thing worst, some practitioners of Islamic mysticism commercialize the spiritual value of the Islamic mysticism for a little price.

Abstract

Among the great mystics in history, Ibn al-‘Arabi (560-683/1165-1240) stands out as one of the most influential. His mystical ideas, particularly the doctrine of Waḥdat al-Wujūd (Unity of Being), spread throughout the Islamic world and left a profound impact on Sufi philosophy. This paper explores the influence of Waḥdat al-Wujūd on Islamic thought in the Nusantara region. It examines the historical development of this doctrine, identifies key Sufi scholars who embraced and disseminated it, and analyzes the factors that facilitated or hindered its acceptance. Additionally, this study considers the future trajectory of Waḥdat al-Wujūd in Nusantara, assessing its relevance in contemporary Islamic discourse.
