Abstract

Vision screening recommended to detect tampering visual acuity at school age.gender, academic achievement, play activities, family history of glasses and nutritional statusis one of the risk of sharp vision disorders. purpose of this study to determine visual acuitydisturbances. This is a descriptive study with cross-sectional research design and totalsampling techniques has been done in september 2014. Snellen card and the questionnairequestions of the schedule of activities performed during the 3 days are used for data retrievalfor 1 hour / day. most respondents have normal vision with the best visual acuity 83.76%. theresults of this study showed the most characteristic sex is women (68.42%), academicachievement (38.47%), activity play (81.58%), look close and long activity that most peopledo is read near as many as 16 people (42.1%) with a close distance ≤ 30cm and  2hours/day, watching tv as many as 18 people (47.36%) at a distance of 3 times the diagonallength of the tv and  2 hours/day, using a computer, notebook, playstation / video games asmany as 16 people (42.1%) at a distance ≤ 50cm and  2 hours/day. family history of glassesage  40 years and nutritional status (63.2%).Keyword: visual acuity disorders, elementary school kids, factor affected visual disorders

Abstract

ABSTRACTContact lens is a result of technology in ophthalmology which is used as an alternative for eye glasses to correct the refractive error. The use of contact lens also has negative effect mainly for those who use it continuously without paying attention to its health impact. This research aimed to assess knowledge about the use of contact lens in students and teachers of Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN/State High School) 1 and SMAN 9 Pekanbaru. The research was done in both high schools room on December 2015. Population amount of this research was 353 which consisted of all class XI students and all teachers of SMAN 1 and SMAN 9 Pekanbaru. The sample taking method used was total sampling method. Primary data was taken and then managed by using computerized method. Data analysis used in this research was univariate and bivariate analysis. Result of the research showed that most of respondents (students) in SMAN 1 were female (21 persons, 52,5%), 25 persons (62,5%) of them use contact lens for fashion reason. There were 28 persons (70,0%) of respondents who had less knowledge about contact lens usage. The cooperation between school and health worker especially ophthalmologist is needed to give information and improve the knowledge of students and teachers about the correct and safe use of contact lens.Keywords : Knowledge , Contact Lenses

Abstract

Myopia is a refractive error with incidents between 50% to 80,3% at some hospitals in Indonesia. Based on World Health Organization, the prevalence of myopia is increasing. The prevalence of myopia among medical students is nearly twice as high as in general population. Risk factor that associated with myopia is genetic or herediter, near work activitis and prevention attitudes. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between heredity, near work activities and prevention attitudes in students of Faculty Medicine of Riau University with incidence of myopia. This study was analytic observational cross sectional study. The subjects in this study are medical students of Faculty Medicine of Riau University grade 2010, 2011 and 2012. Total samples in this study is 85 people taken with stratified random sampling technique. The data of relationship between heredity with myopia was analyzed by chi-square test, relationship between myopia with near work activities for variable reading book and work study task was analyzed by kolmogorov-smirnov test, for variable reading for pleasure (hobby), watching televison, using computer or laptop was analyzed by chi-square test and relationship between prevention attitudes with myopia was analyzed by kolmogorov-smirnov test. The result of this study showed a significant association for heredity with myopia (p = 0,001). There were no statistically association between reading and work study task (p = 0,492), reading for pleasure or hobby (p = 0,895), wathcing television (p = 0,774), using computer or laptop (p = 0,680). No association between prevention attitudes with myopia (p = 0,144).Keyword : myopia, heredity, near work activities, prevention attitudes

Abstract

ABSTRACTImpaired visual acuity is a very important issue, because 80% of the information obtained from the sense of sight. Snellen and Pinhole test is a technique to determine visual acuity disorders and datasheets/questionnaire is one to assess the characteristics of the respondents sharp vision disorders. Design of the study was deskriftive cross sectional and accidental sampling method done in SDN 026 Pekanbaru a October until November 2014 accordance to the inclusive criteria. Almount of sample are 205 respondents to fill out the data sheet / questionnaire and follow visual acuity examination. The results of this study researchers was respondents impaired visual acuity as much (39.99%), visual disturbances most bilateral visual impairment (71.99%), the highest refractive disorders (92.68%). With sharp vision disorders characteristics the majority of the age group 11-12 years (46.34%), gender more in women (62.19%), a history of using glasses majority (51.2%), family history of heart bespectacled most (73.17%), and nuclear families with glasses more in age <40 years (61.66%).Key words : impared visual acuity, primary school children, refractive desorder
