Prevalence of stroke inIndonesia reached 8.3 of 1000 population. It is estimated that 5-14 % incidence ofstroke will be repeated in five years. This study is a retrospective descriptive studyusing total sampling method to determine the profile of modifiable risk factors inrecurrent stroke cases at Arifin Achmad General Hospital in Riau Province. Abstract

ABSTRACTObesity is now recognized as one of most prevalent disease world-wide in both developed and developing countries. Body mass index (BMI) is the most simple and common index to describe body fat. Obesity can cause higher risk of cardiovascular disease, such as hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine correlation between BMI and blood pressure. The design of this study was analytic cross sectional. Population of this study were all students of Medical Faculty of Riau University batch 2012 and 2013. Sampling technique used in this study was total sampling. Sample of this study were 242 students. The result of this study was 47,93% of subjects had normal BMI and 40,09% of subjects were overweight and obese. According to systolic blood pressure, 63,22% of subjects had normal systolic blood pressure and 36,78% of subjects were pre-hypertension and hypertension. According to diastolic blood pressure, 64,46% of subjects had normal systolic blood pressure and 35,54% of subjects were pre-hypertension and hypertension. This study showed there was significant positive correlation between BMI and blood pressure which the power of correlation was weak for BMI and systolic blood pressure (r = 0,302; p = 0,000) and the power of correlation was very weak for BMI and diastolic blood pressure (r = 0,171; p = 0,008).Keywords: body mass index, blood pressure

Abstract

ABSTRACTAsthma is a chronic inflammatory associated with airway cause symptoms such as recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing, especially at night or in the early days and it is reversible with or without treatment. Asthma gymnastic is one of the recommended exercise therapy to help the process of rehabilitation in patients with asthma. To determine the success rate, it is important to evaluate and monitor the effect of asthma gymnastic to lung fuction periodically, with Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) examination by using Peak Flow Meter before and after doing gymnastic. This was a cross sectional descriptive study using the total sampling technique to know the overview of PEFR in asthma patients that following asthma gymnastics in pekanbaru. . This research has 32 samples. Result showed that asthma patients who followed gymnastics asma were in the age group 41-50 years old (37,5%), most commonly happened in female (75%), most common had not comorbidities (53,12%), most common patients had a family history of asthma (62,5%), the length of time following asthma gymnastics was the most ≥3 month (59,37%). The degree was the (37,5%). Assessment of asthma control was the most good controlled asthma (46,87%). Assesment of PEFR was the most low obstructive (43,75%).Key word : asthma, asthma gymnastic, Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR)

Abstract

Stroke is the first cause of death in women and the second leading cause of death in men in industrialized countries. In Asia, every year an estimated 500 thousand people experience a stroke. Therefore recognizing stroke risk factors and managing them appropriately is key to designing primary prevention strategies in non-stroke populations and secondary prevention to avoid recurrent strokes. This research was cross sectional study to describe profile stroke patients in Arifin Achmad hospital Riau Province. Research data was taken through questionnaire and patient medical records. In this study, stroke patients in Arifin Achmad Hospital were mostly <60 years old, 65.80% and male sex 64.50%. The proportion of hypertension is 90.80%. Diabetes mellitus 7.90%, dyslipidemia 63.20%, smoking 21.10%, obesity 32.90%, and sedentary life 73.70%.

Abstract

Sore throat and hoarseness are common complications after endotracheal intubation. The incidence of sore throat andhoarseness after endotracheal intubation varies from 14 to 75%. Although regarded as minor complications, sorethroat and hoarseness contribute to postoperative morbidity and patient dissatisfaction. The aim of this study were todetermine the incidence of sore throat and hoarseness after endotracheal general anesthesia and to describe associatedrisk factors at Arifin Achmad Public Hospital. This study used a descriptive cross sectional method. A total of 88patients who underwent endotracheal general anesthesia were enrolled in this study. Data of the patient such asgender, age, duration of intubation and endotracheal tube size were collected from medical record and direct observationat the time of operation. All of the patients were interviewed within 24-36 hours after surgery to collect data such assmoking history, sore throat complaint and hoarseness complaint. The evaluation of sore throat degree was accomplishedwith a Capan’s scale for sore throat and hoarseness degree was accomplished with a Stout’s scale for hoarseness. Theresult showed that 18 patients (20.4%) experienced sore throat and 34 patients (38.6%) experienced hoarseness aftersurgery.

Abstract

Menopause has some effects on women’s health. Exercise is one alternative to resolve menopausal complaints.Regular exercise can increase serum estrogen level in postmenopausal women. This increase is believed to occurthrough increased aromatization of androgen in extragonadal tissue especially adipose tissue in postmenopausal women. The purpose of this study is to explore estrogen levels in adipose tissue and serum due to regular exercise inovariectomized rats. A post-test only control group design was performed in this study. Ten female Sprague dawleyrats were used throughout the study and randomly selected. Rats were ovariectomized and divided into two groups:five rats in treated group and five rats in control group. Treatment groups get treadmill exercise for 8 weeks. Furthermore, rats blood were taken for examination of serum estrogen level, rats were killed and subcutaneous abdominal adiposetissue were removed for examination of estrogen level in adipose tissue. Statistical analysis was performed withindependent t test. Estrogen level in adipose tissue was higher in the treatment group but not statistically significant (p> 0,05). Higher serum estrogen levels in the control group but not statistically significant (p > 0,05). Extragonadalaromatization has occurred in adipose tissue of ovariectomized rats with regular exercise.

Abstract

The nutritional status is a factor that related with blood pressure. The nutritional status that indicated by body massindex (BMI) needs to be considered in management of hypertension. This study was a cross-sectional analytic thatassess relationship between BMI and hypertension controlled. The subjects of the study were hypertension patientsthat visit outpatient clinic of Arifin Ahmad General Hospital, Riau Province. Datas were analyzed by unpaired t-test.The results showed that patients with obesity grade 1 were more frequent in controlled hypertension group comparedto uncontrolled hypertension (43.8% vs 32.5%). The BMI average in patients with controlled hypertension group was24.2, while in uncontrolled hypertension group was 24.8 (p>0.05). There was no statistically significant differencebetween BMI in both groups patients.
